Ruffian working with Microsoft on a 1080p 60fps FPS tech demo, also on UE4 game

Yeah. Then some GAFfer found out where the pictures that the guy used as "proof" came from. In the end it was nothing more than fan-fiction.

sorry then I don't really understand reddit

So it was just like a regular thread then or something?

And I kind of want another crackdown 2 although might be good to invest in story or characters or both

Crackdown 2 was a mediocre at best game with some pretty ugly visuals, I don't understand why so many people here are in love the franchise. Just let it die folks.

How about no. CD2 was fine and it did a lot of things right that actually improved on the original. That's not to say it couldn't have been better, but the problems with the game are more down to a short and rushed development schedule than the developer not being competent.

There's still plenty of potential left in the CD series, I just hope MS give Ruffian a proper chance to exploit it and deliver the game we deserve...

What's your take? Feeling the pressure since March? :p

Haha yeah I could've edited it but I don't like to changing my posts in edits as much as adding onto them unless for spelling correction of course

I was just confused by the tech demo part to be honest

Clearly I don't get how they're made. I also incorrectly assumed you'd start making tech demos earlier than 7 months ago but again don't get tech demos

Really strange hires lately at MS.

And this one is even weirder.

Is that MS head-hunting specific employees from Sony's stable of respected developers or are these employees leaving to join MS' promising development environment?

Either way, kudos to MS. They just added some talented, capable devs in their porfolio. Anything that adds to their first party development teams is a solid, and competitively necessary, acquisition.

Good move, MS.

GOOD on MS. maybe 3 or so years down the road they get my money if they finally produce exclusives that I find interesting (not one, but a few. Gears was not enough to force me to purchase 360).

they seem to be targeting a lot of SSM and ND guys. Can't find old posts.

They're recruiting from a whole host of developers. Staff from Voliton and Retro are among thier employees as well. Quite a few of the original Dead Space team are at Black Tusk if I remember.

Edit. The OddOne created a thread with some great info. Check it out.

I thought you would only jump out a window at bad news?

I love crackdown as well and also think its inevitable

MS owns the IP right?

Yep, MS own the IP. One of their acquisitions this gen, along with State of Decay.

Oh what I wouldn't do for a retail, high budget release of SoD on X1.

Yes, and while I am certain it is in development, the chance of it being Ruffian development is next to nil.

I'm pretty sure the staff count is around the same as it was when I left. They'd have to staff up a shit tonne to get in the position to make a next gen open world title, and getting people (especially top talent) to move to Dundee is a big ask.

They're likely continuing as a support studio and working on their indie title, Tribal Towers. It's a damn shame so many of their projects never saw the light of day.

Oh and....
Do we know if Ruffian are still assisting on Ryse or whether that was just for the version due on Xbox 360?
It's pretty much public knowledge now that we worked on that back on the 360 when it was a rather different game: http://www.polygon.com/e3-2013/2013/6/10/4395790/ryse-seven-year-development

Well I hope this means Microsoft is really beefing up their first party!

The beefed up first party is what made the Sega Saturn my system of choice. :)

Cool always meant to play state of decay, heard great things

Hope XB1 gets a re-release or new version etc. then

Thanks for the clarification. Hope everything is good for you on a job front.

I always worry when I hear about devs leaving studios etc.

I wonder who MS would get to make Crackdown 3 then?

Sucks to hear about never released projects. Gotta hurt to see your work go to waste :(

I wasn't aware MS owned State of Decay - great IP for them, like has been said, hopefully they get a beefed up version out for XB1 (and with multiplayer) :)?

I left after Streets of Rage Reborn (4) got cancelled and moved to Ubisoft to work on Watch_Dogs. So things have turned out ok :)

Yeah definitely sounds like a more stable work environment

Ubisoft has such a large dev workforce

I imagine you can't share anything about watch dogs delay?

But how do you like working at ubisoft though?

As we've said, it's all about polish.

Ubi is pretty awesome - wouldn't be here without the experiences from Ruffian though. Hope all goes well for them. I'd like to see more Tribal Towers soon.

I'm actually happy Watch dogs was delayed

More time to cook is a good thing. Watch dogs looks like a great game

Nice to hear your new job is going well

Just watched the video ruffian has on tribal towers since you mentioned it

I can't begin to describe what type of game it is but it reminds me of age of empires in so many ways. I'll have to give it a shot when its released

It seems like it. That 1 billion was not a joke. Black tusk, they own the Crimson Dragon ip,Own the Quantum Break ip,several studios also but we need to see their work.

They could have built a team specifically to make Crackdown 3 for all we know.
This is something I think is relatively likely. I was convinced that was going to be Black Tusk, but it's probably more likely a studio yet to announce its presence to the world.

I agree.

Crackdown 3 being one of Microsofts 2015 games is highly likely. I think we will get officiall confirmation at E3 next year.

Late on seeing this thread but it's definitely not Halo related if it's using UE4. I would guess either assistance on Black Tusk's IP or a new IP.

The game Ruffiangames is working on is (hinted to be) a new IP, it´s an action adventure game using UE4, partnered with a major publisher (which is most likely Microsoft). That´s all there is. And yes, the game seems to have been in development shortly after the leak of the SoR prototype, but most likely before hand

Also, they seemed to have first been working on an action game with Cryengine 3

I'm kind of as close as a normal outsider can be to Ruffiangames, and it's most likely going to be announced within the next year or so. As Billy Tomson went to GDC this year to speak about some secret stuff and Tribal Towers.
edit: sorry didn't spot that Shiggy had already posted this Linkedin
