Uncharted 4 confirmed?

I'm fine with this, Uncharted games are great and I'm kind of drooling at the thought of one with the power of the PS4.

Will take a lot for me to ever be tired of the Uncharted series. There are just so many great things for Nathan Drake to do and locations for him to venture.

Naughty Dog is fantastic when it comes to starting new IPs, so people have the right to be disappointed.

Naughty Dog is fantastic at making games, period. New IPs, sequels, doesn't matter.

All the negativity for UC4 and the game will probably win GAF GOTY anyway.

The ending to Uncharted 3 made it seem as if Drake wouldn't risk his life for treasure anymore.
So i'm thinking they'll spin the story quite a bit if there's a 4. Maybe Drake junior? Old Drake? Drake family gets kidnapped and now he is like the guy from taken? idk ...is kinda fun to think about the possibilities though.

I'm okay with that. I'd rather have another Uncharted than TLOU2, as TLOU is one of the few games I can think of this generation that doesn't need a sequel at all, along with RDR I'd say.

I'd like them not to try to copy UC2 like they did with UC3 though. That's why this game was disappointing : every segment was a callback to UC2, but less good, and with serious pacing issues.

A good direction would be to make it a little more open, put the focus on the exploration. See Tomb Raider. But still keep it somehow linear. I know this generation seem to like open world, but Uncharted is nothing without setpieces. Just don't try to copy the ones from UC2 except in new environnments this time. Also, a 1910-1940s setting would be nice.

I'm cool with this. Don't know why it's suddenly popular to hate on Uncharted (eventhough it's nothing new to hate on successful franchises), but I'm curious what nextgen can do for Uncharted.

Uncharted hate surprises me. Yes, they're linear games, but they're incredibly well crafted and enjoyable games. But then again, anything that is seemingly popular is hated upon.

I'm very happy to see an Uncharted 4. I think it's a great opportunity for ND to show what they can do on a more powerful machine. Uncharted 2 blew minds; hopefully U4 can deliver the same impact.

I'm not surprised obviously, but for me this makes sense of the recent Uncharted 3 MP patch and changes.

Guess we'll find out soon.

Yep. Can't see how can you be tired of Uncharted. The trilogy is the best thing that came out of this generation. It should continue.

Good thing they have the manpower to do both at once, isn't it?

It seems to be pretty much the same thing you see in just about every thread about a new Uncharted, or God of War, or Killzone, or anything from Quantic Dream... even seen similar whining over Infamous and Gran Turismo over the past few months. Hmmm :/

SHOCKING news. I'm perfectly happy if we get a Uncharted 4. It is one of my favorite new IPs from this generation (U2 multiplayer was godtier) + there are a few loose ends from Uncharted 3 that were never 100% explained such as
Nathan Drake's real birth name.

I'm not sure if it would still feel like Uncharted without Drake. Then again, I felt like they really didn't know where to go with his character in UC3, so maybe it's time to let him go

hen there is really no point, if its supposed to be a mainline title.

I wouldn't mind a lengthy section playing as some like Elena though.

Uncharted is Drake, it's like making an Indiana Jones movie without Indiana Jones.

One for, two against. Thanks for the answers by the way.

I guess even though I haven't played, I have the idea, for some reason, that four would be the start of a new trilogy, with another character. Maybe Drake passes on the torch in 4. But, since I haven't played, I don't even know if there is someone to pass the torch to, and if they just end up throwing someone in right at 4, it's going to be really forced.

The Last chapter of Uncharted 4, Drake will enter a Pyramid, find some treasure, however once he pulled the treasure out he didn't know it was actually a lever. The Pyramid turns out to be a spaceship, and in the last chapter you fly into space battling aliens.

One of my favorite series coming back and looking glorious on new hardware? :drools: I could not be more hyped! ND always deliver.

I really hope this doesn't happen, fresh IPs are the best part of new consoles.
Not releasing a new Uncharted would be like not releasing a new Halo. Might not be the best game in the series but it will be good and it will push systems.

Wish they would move onto new IP like they did with TLoU, I thought the Uncharted series were incredibly overrated poor games personally.

Didn't find a single character in Uncharted interesting, or the story and the gameplay was run of the mill barring the odd megatacular set piece of silliness. Although it is a series loved by many so fair enough, but couldn't that have been handed off to another studio to 'replicate'.

Uncharted needs a break. Come on. U4 will no doubt be great. But its a new gen, perfect time for a new franchise.

THEY JUST RELEASED A NEW FRANCHISE
:lol

It'll be three years since Uncharted 3 if they release next fall, thats plenty of time. Considering companies milk franchises like AC and COD its like a eternity since the last game.

I can actually find this believable when it's in the Uncharted universe. :|

sounds good to me but I want ND to expand beyond Uncharted. Each gen they had a new series and PS4 should be no different, I would like a Last of Us sequel, new game then Uncharted 4

I'm kind of tired of this argument playing out in every Uncharted thread. I'm up for them making some changes to the formula, but lots of people actually like Uncharted so the persistent whining over Naughty Dog working on their most successful series ever that is still on the upswing just seems bizarre to me. Give it a rest or don't play it (maybe better still).

I think it is perfectly fine to discuss what you want from a new Uncharted, but I'm getting sick of seeing people asking for new IP. You just got one. Why do they have to keep cranking out new IP? What kind of standard are we holding them to?

If Amy Hennig wants to make a new one, she should get to. And if you don't like that you can go into the woods and sit in a hole.

I meant for next gen, I'm glad they made last of us

I'm sure there will be, but for now it's a safer bet to support a new console with a new game from a successful franchise. We've just gotten a new IP from ND and there will be plenty of opportunity later on for another.

There are a couple things I don't get about the downers in this thread. First, that ND is doing Uncharted again "so soon." What? If it's released next holiday season, that's 3 years after Drake's Deception ... hardly an annual series. Furthermore, it's a great amount of time for development.

Next, the concept that Drake was done with adventuring after 3. I hope that's true ... if he's pulled back in against his will, that's more tension and drama for the story. There are a lot of ways to do this -- a friend in trouble on a dig or the like. It would be even better if he did to help out an old friend or flame of Elena's -- that would turn the narrative around as it's usually him dragging her out or dealing with an old flame of his.

My point is -- there are plenty of ways to do a great story and it's being given a ton of development time.

But they just made a new IP this year. I've said it before and i'll say it again, i've never seen a studio that's expected to churn out new IP's as much as ND is. How many single studios can say that they created two successful IP's this gen?

Most studios would be happy with one new IP doing successfully. The fact that Naughty Dog did two with the possibility that their new IP (that they introduced the same year as the release of a new console mind you) might also win another GotY award is a testament to their skill. Uncharted is a success in every sense. Sony would be insane to not capitalize on it.
