MS promises to bring more first party games to PC

These were games they did not prevent from coming to PC, eventually, but they put no money or effort into the development, they just stepped out of the way after sometime and let the IP holders release PC versions.

stuff like mark of the ninja and state of decay were exactly the same

i think the last game they fully owned/developed and brought over from the console side was shadowrun

the only games that they've done this with recently were indie titles published by mgs where they didn't own the ip and it would have ended up on pc eventually anyway

actual for real first party ports ended years ago and were horrible before that

But a lot of the MGS-published titles they've published recently are their IPs, though. Splosion Man and SoD, I believe.

The last big PC port was like, Fable 3 back in '10, I think. And along with that game being shit-awful, I don't remember it being optimized very well.

Maybe it's a sign that their downloadable titles will make it over to PC more than their big stuff

Why do people think this will kill incentive to buy an XB1? You know how spec-consuming a next gen title will be on a PC? Take into consideration that these 720p/30fps titles will/can be upscaled to full 1080/60 on a PC.

I think a lot of people would just buy an Xbone instead of upgrading their rig. It'd be...cheaper, sort of. idk

"Let's start to act like a true first-party across all these devices. A service like Xbox Live that knows me and my content and my friends and achievements across all these devices. I think that's an advantage for us."

This does not sound promising.

You wonder if MS wouldn't have been in a better place if they never pursued the console business and instead focused all that talent/attention/money/advertising in the PC-realm instead.

They certainly would've had a better chance at being the de facto DD service for billions of people and they wouldn't have lost all that money in R&D/hardware defects from the Xbox.

Although, it was probably impossible to have such foresight in an era when the PS/PS2 had userbases well into the hundreds of millions.

This will just push people away from X1. Seems like a silly move from Phil.
Good for PC gamers though.

That's what I've been saying for years now. When they don't invest in actual exclusives it renders their console irrelevant to hardcore gamers (the people most likely to have gaming PCs).

Now as a PC+console gamer it leaves me in a confused state. I like to have healthy consoles in the industry with a diverse amount of games but if you bring it to PC I'm going to play it on PC for the natural advantages. However with MS, their PC stuff normally comes with huge strings attached like GFWL which is one of the worst things to ever happen to PC gaming and it almost put the final nail in its coffin before Steam saved the platform.

Talk is cheap and even if they were to put more games on PC, their handling of GFW all around shouldn't inspire confidence.

Sony already puts out big games on PC, just not their consoles tailored exclusives.

Its kinda funny that a Sony studio supports windows gaming far better than MS does. EQN looks awesome, and Planetside 2 is a reason to upgrade your PC.

SoE is actually considered its own entity. As far as I'm aware it's not run by any of the 3 SCE branches at all.

If they release an exclusive on the PC, say 6 months after the console port, then they could bring that PC audience to the consoles for the sequels.

1m PC gamers buying a PC port of an exclusive are likely to buy any sequel for the XBO. Its a great way of expanding a franchises fanbase.

They have nothing that interests (these days, at least) but more games is always a good thing. Though locked to their store that gamers will completely ignore, I'd imagine.

SOE's primary platform is PC but I think the person I was quoting had to be referring to SCEWW since all of SOE's games are on PC by default.

That is some extremely weird logic you're using there. They'll buy it for PC, not Xbox.

Downloadable titles do make it over sometimes... To the Windows 8 store.

Huh

SOE =/= SCE. Completely seperate thing.

Though, EQN'd be pretty cool on PS4.

Maybe, but it defiantly put out the thought that every Xbox One exclusive might be released on PC if you wait 6 months.
So why should they invest $500 + $60 when they can wait and get it cheaper on PC?

Bringing games to other platforms will boost the game/franchisee, but it won't be beneficial for Xbox One.

So I guess we'll see Fable on PC. Quantum Break will probably come to PC as well. Anyways this just gives people more reasons to not buy the Xbox One

Great for us, but I don't know how this helps the console they are releasing this month.

My understanding is they'll release the first game of a series on the PC, but they'll keep the sequels Xbox exclusive. So any fans who played the PC port would have to buy an Xbox to continue playing the franchise.

They did this with Halo and Gears.

I'm assuming the sequels to the exclusives won't be on the PC, so those people who play the PC port would have to buy an Xbox to play the sequels etc.

That's the only way I see them benefitting from this.

The average person who is in the market for a console or wants the consoles' experience and ease couldn't care less if the game is also available on PC. The game not being available on another console is the key.

Good on Microsoft if they do bring notable XB1 games to PC.

You know they can start by porting Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Reach. I'd be happy as hell then. I'd have all the Halo games on PC then.

I would personally only be interested in Halo and i guess Gears, maybe a re-release of that Nuts and Bolts game but other than that....meh, MS has little to bring over imo.

I wouldn't expect any of them though.

Edit: Dead Rising isn't first party, stupid of me.

Oh, is it that time of year again? When MS announce that they're serious about PC gaming again and then fuck all happens?

Yup. It's nice to dream though. So many good franchises they have in their catalog that would be fun on PC. Hell half of those were PC franchises to begin with lol. Sadly they'll remain all dead and buried I figure.
