COD:Ghosts PS4/XBO Comparisons show the same resolution (720p)?

Am I readiing this right, one of these two are true?

Scenario one: Reviewers have played both games at 720p because Activision made a mistake.

Scenario two: Reviewers have played PS4 in 1080p, but have for some reason decided to show off video/screens of the PS4 version in 720p.

Scenario 1 is embarrassing for everyone involved. Scenario 2 is disingenuous beyond belief - even if that is the only material they are sitting on.

Looking forward to seeing whats going on here...

WHY IS EVERYONE GETTING WORKED UP!!!. Let's just wait for the Digital Foundry Face-off, and if we see it's 720p. Then, Neogaf, you have my permission to explode.

People are getting worked up because people are judging the PS4 version based on (seemingly) unfair, flawed setup conditions.

If a multiplatform game is to be compared between competing platforms, it should be done in the fairest, most rigorous way possible so as to not mislead the end user.

This seems to be pretty obviously a capture problem no? I mean every review I've seen mentioned they could tell the difference in sharpness even the Polygon reviewer who blamed it on his imagination.

I actually thought the PS4 version looked better when I watched those videos...I feel dumb now but I guess I wont be noticing much of a difference in multiplatform titles.

So if in the end the PS4 version IS 720p with lower framerate than xbo... Can we safely say it was sabotage from Activision/Microsoft ?

No you cannot since nothing is certain yet. Furthermore immediately implying that something would be 'sabotaged' is just sad, considering COD Ghosts also has issues on the PC.

Who's Lucy ?

I Googled it for all those too embarrassed to ask again like me.

It's a popular phrase from a 50s US TV show called "I Love Lucy". It was also popular around the world, but likely not well remembered outside the US by anyone under the age of 50-60. I remember a few repeats around 15 years ago on Channel 4 in the UK.

Anyway, back on topic... :)

Was all this conducted at a review event? I do wonder if the Polygon reviewer played both versions separately at the event, then returned to incorrectly recorded footage afterwards to check resolution.

The colors are better since they fucked up the XB1 capture and that they admit. So you're not wrong in thinking the Ps4 version looks better, it does from a color accuracy standpoint but anyone can tell those two images are the same resolution.

You're adding fuel to the fire. If x runs like ass and so does y, why doesn't z? Better hardware is not the answer.

The Xbox One version also has a sharpening effect which exaggerates the aliasing making it look a bit worse, too.

I've got a hunch that the websites set this game to 720p due to limitations in their capture equipment
I've got another hunch that this game, which runs like shit even on PC, is not a good barometer for performance

Those PC screens DF has used for comparison in the past are pretty misleading. But yeah.

So a Microsoft agent infiltrated the Ghosts review event and made sure every PS4 station was set to 720p, resulting in reviews being more balanced between the two platforms instead of the Xbone version being destroyed over the 1080p version. Videogame "journalists" snooze away as always and completely miss this "detail".

This is totally what happened. Some crazy industry espionage shit. Guy was probably wearing a bandana AND night vision goggles with three green lights.

Fucking videogames, man.

But that makes a asolutly no sense to compare both version if you don't capture the ps4 at the native res.b.

It's kinda like DF setting the PC version of multiplats to 720p. I don't know if it's still a thing but they have been doing it for years. It makes no sense.

Anyway, can't wait for the comparison. Don't mess this up like BF4, DF!!!

This IS IGN we're talking about.

I seriously that both IW and Sony lied to everyone about the native resolution. Makes absolutely no sense.

No one is saying the PS4 version is 720p, the thread is about comparison videos being CAPTURED at 720p.

Well the only options are that the ps4 was set to 720p in the settings or its native 720p based on what The Sixth Axis listed off as their capture settings

We’re also using the Elgato Game Capture HD, which is a fabulous bit of kit and very convenient, but compresses on the fly to H.264 so that even with bit rates around 24Mbps it’s not an absolute recreation alongside the reduction from 1080p60 to 1080p30. These files were then put through video editing software, re-encoding the final video to something around 20Mbps, which again adds some degree of compression. However, it’s the final step of putting the video onto Youtube that really crunches down on quality, from a 900MB source file to something almost 1/5th of the size.

3) Reviewers played PS4 in 1080p on some machines, but at 720p on the machines being used to capture video due to capture hardware limitations

I'm LTTP, but if the PS4, or the capture device or whatever was set at 720p, shouldn't the PS4 footage still show less aliasing, considering it should still render at 1080p but downsample it? Footage shouldn't be identical should it?

DICE handed out capture equipment at the Bf4 event and people got great footage. It's ironic though that DF used their own and that was the only fucked up comparison.

Im saying wait for digital foundry face off, and if the glorious pixel counters see that it's 720p then it would be more understanding if neogaf exploded. I couldn't care about polygon's or ign's comparison videos. And before you mention any BF4 capture F-up. I think it's safe to say that they probably took all the necessary precautions.

EDIT: Where on earth is digital foundry's Face off video??

So many conspiracy theories already but here's another one: What if the reviewers who didn't have framerate drops were playing at 720, and those who did were playing at 1080?

dun dun dun.

Sort of wish these new consoles were out so people would spend less time caring about technical differences in bad games and more time giving me impressions of games that won't be out in my region for three weeks... And I won't have time to play them this year anyway... Now I'm sad :(

Imagine how much the general public wants/knows to tinker with their equipment. Goes to show there just might be demand and need for console like set-up boxes for gameplay even after this gen ;)
