It's like you want DS4 to break quickly
Too early to say if this is a widespread issue or not. If we hear that in one month that 50%+ of all PS4 controllers have wear like this, then its definitelly a problem.
I see now that i might have worded myself a bit poorly, sorry. I was thinking if it was an universal design problem, then it should happen to "every" (or 50%+) PS4 controller in the near future, even with normal usage. Like you said "not even a week yet", and some people have seen noticeable wear, then a lot more people should see wear in about a month from now if this is an universal design problem.50%? Really? 10-15% would be pretty awful. Taking a pretty significant gamble everytime you purchase one.
God dammit.
People need to learn to contain their impulses when a new console comes out. Every console seems to have a bad launch quality wise. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo... All have launch quality issues.
Best thing to do IMO is to wait a few months at least so the bugs are fixed.
Indeed it is.
I'm so getting them all replaced when the warranty is close to expiring.
Will buy some thumbstick caps.
That's really upsetting, the DS3 thumbsticks weared out as well but that was after years of usage.
Is that the one that came with the console?
Yeah some of these look like straight user error...cut your damn nailsDo some people have their finger nails on these sticks at all times? A lot of these pics look like a cut was made to the rubber.
I've already out 15+ hours on my sticks and don't see a single sign of wear.
That's what I did partly due to this thread, but I don't think everyone should not buy a launch console due to worries about problems like these.
The tops of the sticks on my two DS3s still look like new. They should have gone with material that durable this time, too.

as i said SOME of the sticks look like they have the shit scratched out of them from thumb nails. may some people have been doing it deliberatly? maybe. But you'd be surprised at the ways different people use the sticks & hold controllersBullshit. You don't wear a controller in a way that your nails touch the bottom part of the stick. Just look at the screens posted on this thread. How the hell do you manage to do something like that with a nail unless you're really trying?
Damn, quality control seems to be slipping. Never had DS1/2 problems but one DS3 ended up with an over sensitive trigger and the other had sticky thumbsticks. Now this?

reading comprehension is key in life.

dat sony seal of quality, dat playstation quadruple manufacturing
I see people still trying to spin this garbage and/or sweep it under the rug. Sony fucked up, deal with it.

Has anybody tried replacing the sticks with DS3 sticks? I don't have any around to try out for myself.
If those fit, then you may not even see the concave sticks in the next batch.
They redesigned the shape of the stick for a reason. The ds3 sticks were an undesirable shape.

So why didnt we see a huge rash of problems with other controllers if this was a case of user error? My left stick is degrading already and I dont gouge it, I don't bite it. It's a poorly made fucking controller. It's not user error when something starts to break down from normal use. Stop blaming the gamer for Sony's problem.

These pads are of terrible quality, as not only are people suffering with the sticks but the shoulder buttons wear out fast(a few hours for me). How long till we see a revision? My DS3 is still like new even after 2 years.
God dammit.
God dammit.
Not saying this isn't a problem, but it looks like you mainly have to use the edge of the stick(rather than the middle) to get that kind of damage, even with friction. I can't see how else it can get damaged like that.
Here's mine:
Notice damage in the middle and around the edge. My nail never touches any part of the stick. I think I've logged less than 15 hours with the controller.
Fuck that. I want a new controller if mine gets to that level.Hmmm yeah, that's pretty bad. I hope Sony releases some kind of cap or glove or something.

Nah. Sony should give out replacements (assuming this is a production flaw and not a design flaw)
