That is likely just your area, they are sold out in a lot of places.
It depends on the region I suppose. In Pittsburgh it's bare shelves everywhere. No one had stock over the weekend.
I imagine it will be replenished soon though.

Sony really deserve the numbers they are getting, great to see them this generation. They have a really great foundation and now they are bring out the games. Sony seems like the only company this generation that has a really good plan and they are sticking to it.
Now, if they just release The Last Guardian then this is going to be a home run!

In that particular case, that seems to be less to do with selling out and more to do with just not properly stocking it yet.

I've heard people are having good luck finding them at places like Costco and Sam's Club. Both require a membership, and both aren't places you think of to look for video game stuff, so odds of finding one are significantly higher than anywhere else. At least that's been my experience with past consoles.

friend1 (casual, cod type): xbox360 -> ps4
friend2 (super smash, halo guy): gc + xbox360 -> ps4 (probably)
friend3 (wants to say xbox on) : xbox360 -> ps4
(probably, initially wanted xbone now thinking ps4)
friend4 (avid gamer): ps3 xbox360 pc -> waiting for now will probably get both later with ps4 first.

I spoke to someone at Sears on Saturday, and they seemed to think they would get second batch of PS4's on Wednesday.

FWIW: I timed my controller battery life from a full charge.

I think he's just trying to throw out some quick, anecdotal evidence that there are a lot of people switching from xbox to playstation despite being addicted to achievements/xbox live previously.
It tells you how his friends are switching.
It's a list of his friends current standing concerning consoles and where they plan to go next.
So for me i was
360 (first 3 years) > PS3 > PS4

I heard from a guy working at GameStop (I know I know) that they were supposed to get a shipment this week but it was delayed to the week of Black Friday, so it may be hard to fine a PS4 this week

Standing in line on Black Friday is a pretty safe bet. No word if Sony will get any shipments out before then (one this friday would be amusing), but a shipment for black friday is pretty much a sure thing.

Got it here, the 372k opening week, and the rest from what data I could gather:
* = projections from various sources, sorry it couldn't be more concrete but I couldn't find SOLD figures for them (SNES, PS3, PSP). Please help if you do indeed have them.

That would make this November a RECORD SETTING November for game industry revenues, I bet (As well as continued sales of PS3, 360, 2/3DS, Call of Duty, BattleField, Grand Theft Auto, Pokemon, etc)

Congratulations, Sony. Well deserved. They've come back strong by listening to customers and developers, and trying to provide a product that we want. It reminds me of PS1-era Sony - hungry for business, doing their homework, and just firing on all cylinders.

These are very solid numbers, near the top of the performance curve in console history.
The only caveat we can really put on it is whether it will keep it up; as of right now, the performance is excellent.

In a day they hit around 2/3rds of WiiU's NA userbase. In one day they hit a unit tally it took the Wii two NPD reporting periods to achieve.
If they've got the stock available they could be the NA home console market leader for this gen this month. And unless it just completely craters they definitely should be by Dec. It may not translate to continued success... but that's unknowable currently. What we have to go on are these very very impressive first day numbers.

I'd say it's a lot more than "near the top of the performance curve." It's sitting squarely at the top by an historical margin.
Talking to strangers at work and friends I get the feeling software sales are going to be disproportionate to hardware. Know quite a few people who took advantage of the buy 2 get one free and are just waiting to find a console. This could have a slight effect on xone sales because it makes people less likely to just replace their Ps4 purchase with an xone if it is available and the Ps4 isn't.
So loving my console so far remote play is sweet. Watched the game last night while playing resogun. It's crazy how I couldn't quite grasp why share was important but it is right now my favorite part of the OS. So much better to just watch people play and get their feed back when deciding to buy a game then waiting for magazine reviews.
My local best buy is saying they will get shipments through out the week but won't put them up for sale until Sunday I guess to have bigger batches at a time go out.

nice sales. wonder how many of these million machines actually work though? two of my close friends ended up with doa machines. I finally got a working system from Best Buy after having to send back my Taco Bell dud. 1 for 4 isn't bad i guess :S
