Nvidia: Gamers should not limit their options to PS4/XB1; PC is the way to go

Nope, I like some games that are played with M/KB. I have an agenda against anyone who suggests PC has a place in an entertainment center, because it doesn't. It belongs on a desk playing Starcraft, Dota, WOW, BF4, etc. A PC is a great choice for games like Rollercoaster tycoon for example. I like that game by the way. I spent 100 hours on Railroad Tycoon 2. Those kinds of games won't come to consoles anytime soon and PC is great for them. But fuck playing AC4 on a desk, that's a console game and no amount of extra PC eye candy is going to make me want to play it on there.

PC as a platform is based on freedom, if someone wants a HTPC as the hub of whatever they're trying to do, then why stop them?

These people are aware big picture mode exists, right?

But getting up every month and clicking to update drivers and windows....too imposing.

Why the fuck would anyone be against having options?

So where are all the threads about Elitist Sony saying stuff like:

"Greatness awaits". I mean, how elitists. And so salty marketing their product as "great" intimating that the Xbone isn't as great.

Oh wait, it's CORPORATIONS promoting their PRODUCTS the same way fing burger king claims they have the best burgers ever.

Jeebus, some people are just so damn clueless.

People seem to think a company promoting their own products means that the company is upset that AMD got their console deal.

Clearly these individuals are delusional though and don't understand what the purpose of a company like Nvidia really is. These same individuals get upset when you tell them that the computer is a more capable machine for gaming than a console.

"lol pc superior? how childish". If all of my PC games run at 60fps/1080p with all the bells and whistles while my super fancy next gen console struggles to hit 60fps or 1080p separately then I don't even see where the argument is. It's clearly superior as stated in the OP.

This is the sort if attitude console people are upset about. Is the PC the most powerful platform? Yes. Do people really care? Not really. Nvidia's statements for the last how many months have been throwing consoles to the wayside or trying to undermine their strengths against a PC and call it advertising. The PC people on GAF making it their business to laud the platform over consoles at every wake and turn does no favors either.

you must've been super bummed when sony put a PC in a PBT box and called it the playstation 4.

What's the big deal about Maxwell?

We are hoping is good, we are hoping is cheap (it wont). At least is not GK-110 anymore. New chip and all. Maybe waiting for maxwell means to see what AMD has by that time. I just know I don't want to spend money on Kepler. The 78) ti seems nice and all, but it is so expensive, I want a $500 card that gives me that, I wont play more than $500 for a GPU that is the same architecture.

Yeah it's so annoying. Consoles are far better in this case because there are no updates or patches for games at all, it's literally plug in and play.

No bullshit.

I'd like to be serious here just for a bit.

How does nvidia think they can win the hearts and minds of consoles gamers, like myself, and convert them to pc when all they do is try to degrade consoles? Their PR over the past year or so has just turned me more off to their products and pc gaming in general.

PC/PS4/Xbox One/Wii U combo for me. Best of all worlds over here.

At any rate, the PC will always be the platform of choice for enthusiasts though. While the new consoles are nice and fairly powerful, they won't provide the consistent 1080p@60fps (and in some cases 120fps) that high end PCs can. Not to mention all of the graphical options available to PC games.

If you're offended because they sad bad things about a mass produced piece of plastic and metal that you like then you've got bigger fucking problems than worrying about how Nvidia are going to win you over.

I was console only (pretty much all of them) from 85 (NES) till 2010, when I built a gaming PC and a Panasonic plasma. I love my PS4, but PC is easily my preferred system now. If you can afford it and don't mind tweaking, (something I've now to come to enjoy) 1080p60 maxed games is the pinnacle of gaming, at least in my experience.

Seriously, this is a terrible opinion. Having an HTPC/Gaming rig hooked up to my plasma is amazing, it destroys any media capabilities a console has. I'm playing ACIV with a controller on my tv now at much higher settings than I could on PC. I also play ARPG's/strategy games on it it too and I'm actually posting from it now. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard and it works flawlessly.

The fuck is an entertainment center? a couch?

Is this a fancy way of saying: but I want to play in mah couch?

An entertainment center is a cluster of outdated black boxes that sit under a TV that you need to operate individually with separate remotes, which are usually connected to a central huge box that operates the sound. So obviously something like a PC would never be able be a part of such huge, convoluted, useless, and outdated setup because it could literally replace all of them with ease.

At least my PC can play all video formats and all music formats as well as most physical media.

I can't even listen to a CD on a next gen console, hell they are scrambling to patch in MP 3 support, f**** MP3! Excuse me if i disagree that a console is any better as entertainment hub than a PC.

Nvidia insists players shouldn’t limit their decision between the PS4 and Xbox One when choosing their next gaming device.

The firm has launched its range of small form-factor PCs alongside Sony and Microsoft’s new machines. And Nvidia says players looking for the best games experience should opt for the PC instead.

“We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC,” said Matt Wright, consumer sales manager at Nvidia. “The PC platform is far superior to any console when it comes to gaming, plus you get all the extra functionality that a computer brings.”

Good for them, they can think that all they like.
I have and I will limit my decision though, sorry but nope! Not interested. 25 years of PC gaming and it was great, I loved it, I really did but I'm too old, too tired and can't be fucked. Yes it's gotten easier, yes often games are cheaper, yes very very often games look better and some types of games control better.
Don't care! I love the plug and play simplicity of a console, I like the games which come to console, single player focused gaming kicked ass on the PS3 for the last 5 years.

The most important thing, for me though is time. By isolating myself to one platform, yeah sure I'm theoretically missing out - but it also allows me to branch out to different games on the platform I have chosen, I try more obscure games than I normally would.
I can't afford the time to be online and research the latest and greatest 360, Wii U, Xbox One and PC games anymore. I can't do it.

The thing is - people aren't lauding PC gaming because of insecurity or a desire for reassurance for their choice. Its just that we kinda want to spread the joy to other people, people that often have a very twisted or incomplete view of what PC gaming is like. Your comment, for example, about how the PC is more powerful and that people don't care. Well, for one, people obviously DO care quite a bit if you've been paying attention to the PS4 vs Xbox news around here the past few months. Two, PC gaming does a lot more than just provide better graphics.

We keep having to say this stuff because people don't listen and we still hear the same tired arguments over and over. There are perfectly valid reasons to decide against PC gaming, but I don't think nearly enough people give it a fair think over and there's quite a few gaming enthusiasts who are likely missing out and don't even realize it.

We don't want to inconvenience them too much, after all consoles are plug-in and play.

Until one dies, then you can sit-and-wait for 3 weeks until you get a new one.

lol
which is better than spending 3 weeks trying to figure why your PC isn't working like it should be

If no one cared the WiiU wouldn't have gotten so much shit for its tech specs, and the PS4 and Xbox One wouldn't be constantly put up against each other for performance reasons. I mean, we're on GAF.

I get it, "how is anyone gonna get on your team if you just keep throwing shade at us?" But I mean look at this last year leading up to console launches between PS4 and Xbox.. Nintendo and Sega back in the day.. This isn't new.

I mean seriously, is coldfoot actually running with the argument that a PC belongs on a desk so he won't hook one up to a TV, and he'll be fucked if he's going to play games at a desk and not in front of a TV?

Yup. Nothing more to add. nVidia needs to advertise their products and they chose "our products run circles around the new consoles" as the message. There's nothing false about the message.

It is more or less mining on availability and attentional biases. They know that a person getting into pc gaming will hear the word nvidia and will think "I now that brand", and if they're any cons they will try to think of, this are not really related to the quality of the hardware, which is what we are hopefully thinking about at the time of buying something. If the person is already getting into Pc gaming, principles wont stop her from getting a GPU.

edit: No one is buying an nvidia product unless that person is sure to buy a pc, nvidia doesn't have to convert anyone's heart, they just push those who are in the edge thinking that they want more power and care not of brand loyalty.

Sure, you just need to buy a 3DS, an Xbox 360, a Wii, a PS3 and then either a PS4 or Xbox One to play all these games.

I really think people spouting exclusives they want to play are missing the point here, anyways. Of course you should go to where the games you want to play are. But I think it would benefit a lot of people to at least seriously consider trying PC gaming instead of dismissing it outright. I used to be like that. And now I see how frightfully ignorant I was looking back.

You're imagining this 'butthurt', man.

I have bought a 3DS, Wii, xbox 360 and PS3 actually and i do plan to get a PS4 and xbox one of course, when the games i want arrive

The logic is that i want to play Witcher 3 and any JRPGs that will come to PS4, so a PS4 is the obvious choice for me and not a gaming PC, it just does not make any sense from my point of view

Both from a games and a price standpoint, with 400$ (or 300$ dependin on when i will buy it), i get to play all the games i want

With PC i would miss on FF15 and Ni no Kuni 2 for example and would still have to pay way more than PS4

"I just got both GOTY edition Batman games for under $3 and they all vastly out perform their console counter parts!" that kind of joy

edit: just going to throw this out there: I fucking LOVE that I don't have to deal with my NAT settings on my PC. That has been my biggest hinderance this ENTIRE generation on both PS3 and X360. Went from playing Gears everyday with friends to never playing online for years because I could never join a game with my friends. Something that I could never fix no matter how hard I tinkered.
