They need to drop Kinect like a stone before Sony think to bundle the PS Camera with the PS4 to stay off any need for a pricecut, and add perceived value.
I'm still amazed at the hubris with which they launch $100 more expensive, and don't expect to perform significantly worse. You need to be the box in people's homes, because converting them back is far more difficult. Being more expensive because you sell hardware, at additional cost, that people don't want was Sony's critical error last-gen.
Exactly. That's why, for me at least, this is worse than Sony's fall last gen. At least Sony was able to cut the price and improve the first party lineup to make a big difference, as well as touting blu-ray functionality.
What exactly can Nintendo do? They had a fucking year headstart, and it's all been wiped away in the space of a month.

People are definitely going overboard yeah. A lot can happen in a generation, a 100k unit advantage can disappear quickly when a new variable is thrown in. That said by the end of the holiday it will probably be a much bigger difference than 100k.

Like you said. It will be a snowball effect people buy what their friends have also. Like myself alot of people left xbox in groups. Not just because of the PS4 power and 1st party diviersity and quality (Last of US I bet helped) but MS shown that they dont have the 1st party studios and left xbox360 to die for its last couple of years. Sony are definately a gaming company. People left MS in groups.

Yeah, that's just bad fucking news. I'm part of the problem though. I bought a PS4 and, like you, I love the hardware. But all these games fucking suck. Jesus Christ, Killzone is such a piece of shit.
I was this close to cancelling it and getting a Wii U with SMW3D instead. I know though, that in the long term, Sony's going to deliver more of the stuff I'm interested in. But right now this just feels wrong. I would have preferred to support Nintendo in this case. Though fair is fair, it's been too damn long since they released something this good.

I agree that considering Xbox 360 performance, Xbox One should have outsold PS4, but it didn't happen for reasons we already know (Microsoft mistakes).
But the beginning was decent and there is still time to adjust the strategy. I believe Xbox One will be strong in US an UK. The leadership in these markets is still possible.
I was thinking worldwide, but you're probably right based on the US numbers alone.

Well in the UK. That lead was wiped out in less then 48h in the UK.
There is nothing they can so. No one wants a WiiU. No one is interested in it.
I'm a long time vegetarian but when I look at my WiiU I realise it's the first time I'm going to have a turkey for Christmas.

That would be the worst move to make. It should at least have 4-5 years. Learn the biggest reason Sega failed after they finally had it right with the Dreamcast

Sony has done an absolute masterful job and has learned so much from their mistakes with the PS3.

It's a bundled launch title vs a game selling to a 170k installed base. Knack was always going to be the winner. It also depends on how well SM3DW holds up, because Knack will drop down until hardware availability for PS4 normalises.

It's because low Wii U sales in the UK (or everywhere...) that Knack is outselling Mario.

Also, is Knack really that bad? I haven't played it yet, might get it next week.

You should really look to the platforms not the software. It's not like 3D World uses the Gamepad in any meaningful way. The best performing WiiU software is beaten out by a mid/low tier piece of software on the PS4. No matte rho good 3D World is (and it is), I still wouldn't ever buy a WiiU (in its current configuration and price point) for it.

It puts it into perspective when you realise that the X1 sold around 330,000 in Europe. The PS4 outsold the X1 by around 300,000 in America and it looks like the PS4 is going to sell around 700,000 more in Europe.

You shouldn't be ashamed of making incorrect suppositions based on what you thought was sound reasoning and relevant supporting data. You should be ashamed if you completely fail to correct those errors based on new evidence, however.
This is why I have a good belly laugh every time Pachter gets called out in a Nintendo-related thread. Pachter is an analyst, he makes best guesses based on the available data at the time and then amends them as necessary when new information presents itself. That's what reasonable people do. Making these sorts of prognostications and then doubling down on them when an abundance of evidence comes out against them isn't somehow more "professional" or "honorable", it's just wrong-headed.
You predicted that the launch month for the new consoles would be worse than the Wii-U's. You were wrong - spectacularly wrong. There's no great shame in that, but being unable to admit you were wrong and adjust your future expectations is entirely shameful.

Bit silly. Both to see this as a "war" and to declare a winner.
But two things
1) As zomb pointed out, Microsoft willnot be prepared to do what Sony did to keep the console at a competive price. They will not keep throwing money at the problem.
2) Microsofts Goals for the Xb1 have already failed. They didn't want to compete with sony this gen, they want to take it to the bigboys (apple and google) This may cause friction in the upper management.
The XB1 is not going the way of the WiiU. It may recover and even sell at the same pace as Sony in the UK but it has already lost a ton of mindshare. This can only help sony worldwide.
It's pretty bleak. Bugger all games really.

It's no where near 3D Mario but it selling well is not a bad thing
Nintendo is to blame for 3D Marios failure to sell because of the lack of install base. Don't blame other systems and other games

To be honest I don't really care any more (regarding numbers). I did the previous generation.
I'm very happy with my Xbox One, and I hope both platforms have healthy sales in the years ahead. Anyone who thinks a one console future is better for everyone is sadly mistaken.
Nope, that's what's funny about some of these reactions. The main downside of the game (imo) is the bland art-style in general, lacks direction. It's a simple fun game, though. "Mediocre" is BS.

When I read your post, I can just imagine you as salty link saying it.
I'm going to take joy in your misery now. This is nobody's fault but Nintendo's. Also what's with the "surprised" outrage every time something substandard is more successful than something critically acclaimed? Like if an Adam Sandler movie outgrosses Pacific Rim or whatever we're all supposed to act shocked. Or like it's a harrowing statement on society. Honestly what did anyone expect? Knack didn't outsell Mario because the world is ending and good videogames will never be made again. It's because Nintendo released a system utterly unappealing to the general market and this Mario title has the unfortunate circumstance of being released on it.
People seem to be talking about a price drop for the Xbone, but the demand for this console really isn't there, otherwise it would be sold out everywhere.
If it drops to $399, well it's still a weaker console, and really is Kinect a deciding factor? I think it's novelty has worn off.
Xbone needs to be $399 with Kinect to target families, $299 without to target gamers who will buy it as a second system. This is the only way to put it on a level playing field, otherwise it will be playing catchup all gen.
Sony's masterstroke now is to release quality exclusive games on a consistent basis. If that rumored VR headset actually happens, and is worth a damn, this is the new gimmick that will lead to a sales explosion.
And for what it's worth, congrats to Sony on the strong UK launch, now get some more consoles to market will ya!

Don't worry. The 3DS is doing well enough to keep them around. The market should not reward failure. If the failure with the Wii U spurs Nintendo to create a truly great console next time, then make it your first Nintendo purchase!
