GameStop sure seems to be pushing the Xbone hard...

Damn. How do you try sell that?

The whole concept of this is so wrong... You do this when items are cheap... -_-

We know PS4 stock < demand and Xbox One stock > demand.

Finally that is all that counts. MS might win December NPD but they will have to slow down production if the xbone doesn't sell out any longer.

I am sure that demand for PS4 will slow down in the US too, but there are still loads of european preorders to be fulfilled plus a Japan launch that looks to be going pretty well.

Going through Q1 with production at full force is really nice for Sony and would be a good basis for a price drop should MS take desperate measures.

Will be an interesting 2014. Lineup (Titanfall) will be a factor for the US sales in the first half of the year. But I don't see substantial demand for the xbone in the rest of the world until next holiday season or a price drop.

No incentive to buy the xbone as a media box out of the US and what should change customers' minds but a huge 1st party lineup or more mass compatible moneyhatted exclusives? Neither will grace the xbone short term.

Not much better for Sony, but the PS4 runs on hype and price point for now.

Fanboys why do you all really care?? Serious question for both sides. Not being an asshole, just trying to understand the feeling of wanting one system to sell while the other system doesn't? I am trying to relate it to sports and competition but that doesn't quite work. Is it just a "I spent my 400-500 dollars on the more popular system and you didn't." Bragging right thing? I was also thinking that maybe it's the possibility that if your system doesn't sell then software developers will stop making product for your system. That sort of makes sense.

I don't know, I usually stay away from this side of gaf(although it was originally why I joined many years ago). Just curious.

I want both systems to sell. A healthy, competetive industry is good for everyone.

That said, if some level of initial failure results in that price coming down a bit so that I can actually play many of the exclusive games I want to play on that thing, then I hope it tanks. I really want the Xbox One to fall a little more in line with the PS4 pricing (just £399 with a game will do) and missing sales targets will facilitate that.

Although I do not see myself as a fanboy (and if I were one then it'd be for pc ^^) I'd like to answer you. I can only speak for me personally - but I never want to see 24h check-ins and the like to return. The more success the xbox one has the higher the chance for this though...

Generally speaking I do not appreciate the influence MS has over gaming in general.
-MS introduced the ridicoulus concept of paying for mp (especially considering most of it was p2p).
-MS introduced the even more ridicoulus concept of paywalling content you are already paying for (see netflix)
-GFWL is(was) an abomination (thank god it's finally gone)
-MS pays for games to not be released on competitors platforms
-Forcing release date parity on indies
-and many more things about MSes corporate culture in general (look up "fud" for example)

I think it would be good for gaming in general if MS dropped out of the gaming industry making room for another competitor.

In this case I'm still mad about the shit MS tried to pull with the always online, used game restrictions and their horrible attitude at the time. As far as I'm concerned they effectively were trying to ruin video games. I've been enjoying the trainwreck ever since. Does that make me a petty person? Maybe. I don't care.

I remember when I worked at GameStop on the 360 launch, shortly after the launch, we had to spend two days re configuring the store. At the time, Sony and Nintendo had the front two sides, with PC and MS in the back. Then, Sony got shoved to the back wall, with MS taking the entire front, with Nintendo in the middle.

Been that way ever since at my local GS, and at a lot of the other's according to this thread.

This goes back to the NES-era with me. It's not only fun in a sporting way to brag I picked a winner, it also makes sense to "root" for my 5-7 year commitment because a leading platform comes with many more perks than a trailing platform: better 3rd party support, more optimized multiform titles, more exclusive games, etc. These perks are only made more evident the larger the sales gap becomes.

I have purchased both successful and failed systems, and although it's fun to reminisce about the Saturn, Dreamcast, GameCube; back-in-the-day it really sucked balls to have one of those be your only system. Now I have the means to simply go where the games are and buy multiple platforms, but I still enjoy finding a platform that I'm respectfully a fan of from the beginning and hope it blows the competitor out-of-the-water to avoid buying another system.

Additionally, if a single platform were to finally win the "console wars" and create a default standard - I believe the upward trend in game quality would remain unaffected. Developer competition results in the most tangible quality gains for consumers and no profitable IPs would likely disappear with a platform, so if there were to be a platform winner - it is fun to know you were always on the right side of it at the time (again, NES).

He said there will be an official statement soon where they will annouce draconian DRM measures and a price increase to get demand down to reasonable levels.
/nod Apparently, their policy of not announcing major exclusives hasn't been sufficient, and more drastic measures need to be taken.

By default the best selling system will end up having the best games. Simple as.

Most people buy one console and want to see it do well as they are invested in it. MS have a struggle on their hands they've designed their machine around a living room which only seems to contain a single guy who doesnt have to contend with his family for the tv and has masses of disposable income and is completely ignorant to anything technical.

Those in the market who aren't that particular guy are calling them out.

I don't any more. The Xbox will never get to the level where publishers stop putting titles on it, and even if the PS4 reaches PS2 levels of domination, I didn't actually think much of the PS2 and its library anyway. (That gen was all about the Xbox and GameCube for me.)

I have a PC and an Xbox for Microsoft exclusives like Killer Instinct and Halo. If Sony sells a billion units, it doesn't matter to me, because they still don't have games worth playing.

Wow. You have missed so many great games. Buy a PS2 at least, they're dirt cheap.

Expecting 30 to 40 million sales for xbox one lifetime wise, which is a lot less than the 360, almost half. would be more but they have 0 japanese market.

That last bit is just idiocy. If nothing interested you in the PS2/3's several-thousand-strong games library, I don't know. Maybe this is not a hobby for you.

He's entitled to his opinion. I thought the original xbox had the second worst library of all time, second only to the virtual boy.

What games do you play? I cant think of a single console centric genre that didnt have amazing games on the PS2.

There are opinions and there is just being wrong. If you liked games but didn't like the ps2 library, you don't like games

I know this comment has been addressed several times by others already, but seriously this comment does not make any sense at all and just makes you look ridiculously stubborn. How can you even tell if a hypothetical really well-selling console won't have games that are worth playing? Just because it has Sony in the name? Wouldn't it be likely that a console sells really well because it has a library of games than can appeal to everybody?

He's entitled to his opinion. I thought the original xbox had the second worst library of all time, second only to the virtual boy.

Being entitled to an opinion doesn't mean that an opinion can't be called idiotic.

Honestly, I'm a sony fanboy this gen when it comes to consoles, I own a Wii U, but Nintendo games don't really interest me, so I got it for TW101 and Bayo 2.

The Xbox Ones announcement with the DRM etc just completely put me off Microsoft, the 360 was my primary console this gen, but I haven't touched it since the whole 24 hour check in system news, I know it's reversed, but the damage is already done, I've stopped auto renew on my LIVE account, and have rebought a few games I care about on the PS3

Because if one flounders then the people who own the other don't have to stress much about losing out on 3rd party exclusives. Simple as that, really.

its in gamestops best interest for both next gen systems to sell well. With the bone struggling a little and stock not moving its understandabe they would give it a bit more attention.

It can still be saved just like the ps3. Its not in a wii u \ vita situation just jet.

Since when have employees at GameStop known anything about games?

I genuinely like many of the employees, but yeah,I spent like 10 minutes trying to explain to 3 of them that a ps3 component cable works on the ps2. Then explaining to them that yes some games on ps2 did progressive scan. Then no, you don't need hdmi for HD.

The funny part was that the three guys had no clue yet the 1 Lady at the store knew exactly what I was talking about.

For the record: I went to Italy for Christmas and there were TONS of xbones in every...single...store. Small and big.
I was lucky to pick up my PS4 at Media World, there were only a couple left with PS+ and NFS included.

All the signs are Xbox is currently in the shit comparatively speaking, but it'll take another 2-6 months to get the true picture.

I can't imagine a person who even remotely likes video games and can't find something on ps2 to like. Unless they are huge rts fans and nothing else.

Seems to be about same level of hate for ms from a lot of other people on the forum.

MS tried to actively fuck their customers. Sony didn't. Nothing SCEI has ever done come close to what Microsoft planned for the Xbox One. (Sony rootkits were a different part of the company altogether)

This. It's getting quite annoying to see people still bashing the Xbox One even after they satisfied ungrateful consumers and took away the original online check that wouldn't have affected anyone. It's pretty damn pathetic.
