I paid good money for this Dynex!
I bought another translucent blue DualShock 2 just a couple of weeks ago. No regrets -- it's my favorite translucent gaming thing ever. Even more so than my skeleton Saturn.

Kinda off-topic but not really:

Whats a good, low to the ground chair for gaming? My friend had some sort of black half egg type chair and cant recall where he got it, but its comfortable as hell. I was thinking about going with a beanbag of sorts, but my dog would probably take that over lol. Not looking for anything too expensive/extravagant.

Man, no Sega Gamegear posts makes me sad. I started by testing out testing some new rechargeable batteries to going on a Shining Force and Defenders of Oasis play-a-thon. I might even LED mod one of my least perfect systems.

I had the LED light mod done to conserve battery life and it's ok. The Game Gear screen in general is super garbage, though. I wish it put out regular video like every other handheld in the universe so I could replace it with a more modern screen.

People have figured out some workarounds. Maybe someday.

Soooo, I got given an NTSC PS1 for free from a mate. Awesome. I ordered an RGB SCART cable from ebay the other day, and it arrived today. Put in my only NTSC game (crash bandicoot), and it doesn't read. Laser's fucked. Sounds like a cement mixer. Works upside down, but doesn't pass the Playstation loadup screen.

Quickly rushed to Cash Generator in town and picked up a PAL PS1 for £4.99. Swapped the laser unit around. Works like a dream now! It's damn near silent.

Only problem is, I got scammed on that SCART cable I bought from ebay, as it's quite obviously composite and not true RGB. Bastards! Problem is, without an RGB cable it displays NTSC games in black and white.

ah well, ordered another one. a proper one this time. At 99p I can't complain about the first one not working.

  • Christmas NiGHTS
  • Segata Sanshiro game
  • Deathsmiles 2
  • ToeJam & Earl i guess

help me with all the stuff i'm forgetting! of course, i have to boot up Sonic Advance on christmas day, not sure which other DC games had timed events like that...

Clicked this topic thinking we were all going to combine into a single giant 1980s robot like the Constructicons or something. But I guess old video games are cool too.

^nice!

interesting garage sale today, i swear the Orange Lantern of resellers was there since 6AM buying everything; dude bought 8 pristine boxed SNES games (good ones) for $20 a piece and complained. i come to the table and he's like "just so you know guy i'm trying to buy all of this" "good luck with that, reselling must be tricky!" "Well I'm a collector too..." "Oh? you've got 5 copies of Paper Mario there, haha". ugh.

this is what i swung when he was hustling other stuff. not bad for $50 i figure!

Ha!

I don't know how you guys stomach the flea-market/garage-sale/goodwill routine.

Seems more pleasant to just buy fewer games (even at inflated prices).

Guess the hunt is the appeal!

it's fun hunting. You can go months without finding anything, but can find great stuff cheap.

Just when I'm about to give up, I find expensive games for a few bucks or something awesome like a 29 inch Sony pvm crt for $20.

exactly; usually i find household stuff at garage sales too (some books, a poker table thing, and the game Twister for $1 last time, haha) but the thrill of little things like a boxed Darkwing Duck for $5 & another capcom Disney one i never played for the same, that's cool. GBA with Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga for $10? i wasn't even in the market, but yeah okay! stuff like that makes it worth it, especially knowing it's stuff ill either play or give as gifts.

I consider it a public service. Seriously, if it doesn't get sold at goodwill... For all the games and consoles that they separate and try to sell for more online there are many more that fall through the cracks and end up getting recycled [If it's missing one chord, it's over]. This is why it drives me rabid when I see a Gamecubes on a goodwill shelf with a $40 sticker on it.

I've got horror stories to tell...

Also ordered one of these yesterday:

(not my photo)

Fits in my hands better than the dualshock.
Heh, I remember picking one of those up back in the day. I think I got it for Colony Wars.

set me back $60 but can finally play some crossed swords 2 never played the sequel before
also got rampart sealed for lynx
Ooh, Crossed Swords 2! I wouldn't mind adding that to my collection. How is it?

like it way more then the first one combat system is way more fluid and looks way better and seeing how this is console only they have more content then the first one has more modes and characters and weapons games great only down side i can see is its cd exclusive so you got to deal with the load times but the game over all is awesome

The GBA for me. Retro all the way! Just beat Golden Sun and now I'm playing 2.

I wonder if my cousin's N64 still works, I wouldn't mind playing Golden Eye again.

It does look appealing.

Here in Europe we really don't have that flea-market/garage sale/goodwill circuit, as far as I can tell.

Of course we do have flea markets, and second hand stores. Garage sales not so much, at least not in my country. But they rarely offer anything decent at all. Mostly PS2 shovelware, really.

It seems like most of the 2nd hand game market has moved to specialised 2nd hand game fairs, where prices are jacked up to eBay levels.

Xybots, oh my. Almost tempted to buy one just for that - loved xybots in the arcade

/incoming neurotic post

so im doing some additions/rearranging tomorrow (pics forthcoming!) and i was thinking: it's kind've odd that the bookshelves i use for books, i place them in order of oldest to newest, left to right, just like how you'd read over here; with games though, it's the opposite - newest stuff starts on the right and works backwards to the left. that's weird, right? how do ya'll do it?

i'm bout to rearrange this bitch for some symmetry! the funny part is when 2 friends (Mzo is one haha) come by i get the impression that my random ordering is off-putting, since most seem to do alphabetical...fuck that! it goes mostly by genre or sometimes creator, and even then gets readjusted every so often to fit my current tastes. like, i just played a little bit of Skies of Arcadia the other week, so BAM, now it's in front of nearly every other DC or GC RPG (Shenmue of course leads the pack because, you know, FREE is its own genre, natch).

this is some seinfeld/curb level minutia shit right here

I've never gone to the effort of ordering. I just put shit on the shelf where it fits!
The most I do is keeping platforms together where possible, so I don't have GameCube games mixed in between PS3 and such.
