Sony in the late 90s and early 2000s was a very arrogant, anti-consumer company. They made a lot of shitty decisions that pissed people off, a lot of them simply forcing people into using shitty proprietary stuff to please their other divisions. Got a Cybershot? You've gotta shell out for a Memory Stick rather than just a standard SD Card that costs half the price. Then there's a Sony digital Walkman. Notice how I didn't say MP3 player? That's because you couldn't play them. You had to use the God-awful SonicStage to convert them into ATRAC, a file that only Sony's stuff used. Then on top of that you had things like the rootkit scandal and their attitudes then. Some people might have been too young to remember what a big deal it was, but it was a big deal.
It's only since they got their asses handed to them by Apple and Samsung/LG an had their stock price plummet that they've had any sort of attitude adjustment. That's because they have been humbled as a company.
I still contend that a lot of the pro-Sony stuff doesn't come so much for what Sony has done right so much as what Microsoft is perceived to have done wrong. But it gets twisted and suffers from hyperbole. There's this idea that Microsoft are lying about their sales but Sony couldn't be. Or that Microsoft will move the goal posts even though it has been Sony historically who have done that, removing features whether software or physical. This whole Return of the King stuff just makes me shake my head. They are corporations. Both of them would dick you over in a moment if they think they could get away with it. It's just that Sony is still recovering from nearly a decade of not getting away with it.
Check his Twitter account, he even wants Penello to come back and provide more "insight" and qualifies the criticism about Penello as "salt".I am assuming you are pulling those quotes from his post history. It would help wonders if you actually linked the posts so people could read it in context.

He's been pretty inactive on his Twitter account as well, and he's said he's been kind of busy. Don't be too bothered by him not being able to come here that often. He hasn't used Reddit much either.
So when is MS going to start acting like they have been humbled as a company? I haven't seen any indication of it.

Gee I wonder why.
The Xbox division isn't bringing in billions of dollars of profit a year... Not even close. When their not bringing in billions of dollars of profit a year?

I'm pretty optimistic about the Xbox One, and here's one thing I make clear. I don't believe the "SonyGAF" stuff. GAF is a diverse userbase and community, with many varying opinions and users. Most of us are level-headed, and all of us like to discuss to intelligent level-headed discussion, and I like that. I try my best to make myself articulate whenever I post on GAF, especially so when I'm sharing my personal opinions.
I will say, some users do lean in favor of the Playstation 4, or the Xbox One, and that's fine. Everyone has preferences and so do I, but sometimes it does get very nasty in here and some posts get very negative, which isn't undeserved, Microsoft did do some bad things last year, and are only paying the price of it, just like Sony did in 2006. Still, it's negativity and I could understand and see why Albert wouldn't want to always come here to discuss things with some of the negativity regarding the product he made. I refer to the extremely negative ones by "salt", by the way.
I simply asked Albert because I felt he added great discussion and insight on GAF, and it's always nice to see more industry workers post on GAF. I was curious as to why he hasn't been here, and I asked. I don't see anything wrong with it.
I don't believe he was talking about that division alone.

Still going with the fast selling console in November line I see.
Honest question - can you give me some examples of the insight that Albert added here that was new or otherwise unattainable information? I'm sincerely trying to be open minded about it.

Real fast, from the top of my head:
Clarified the "Xbox One will only support... 5? Countries at launch for Voice Commands"
Also tried to clarify the power gap between the Xbox One and PS4... which... didn't go very well, but he tried to give insight.
Eh to be fair he mentioned a graph or chart of some sort that would be produced in the future and I have yet to see that materialize
Is there any official MS list somewhere that specifies what commands work in what languages in what regions etc.?
Yeah, pretty sure Amir0x will be waiting on that chart forever.
hehe
Probably this. Microsoft makes profit off of many of their divisions besides Xbox while Sony is bleeding money away on a good portion of their divisions, especially on TVs.

Oh, also he debunked the DGPU rumor. I'm sure he gave answers on smaller things, but I can't go through his post history right now, apologies.

I always wondered why he wasn't banned. He was a shill. Atleast Nelson didn't lie like penello.
Haha so that was insight huh. He revealed to the world a new type of math created by Microsoft. Like the Myans discovering the concept of 0.
C'mon man Albert was PR and he was here to do damage control. Some people on gaf saw through it and other didn't. I have to say he did a good job rallying his troops.

I always liked his zen koan about the less powerful system actually being more powerful.Albert coming back to tell me about technical fellows and directx sounds awesome.
In the interests of fairness, Microsoft also has a bunch of divisions/products that bleed money, such as Surface. The difference there is that they are so successful in other areas, especially ones that focus on enterprise. Sony's most successful division is actually the one that sells insurance.
I think that people forget that even if the PS4 replicates the PS2s success, that's still really just a drop in the bucket in terms of the potential revenue these companies deal with yearly.

One thing you can count on is that no matter how much money a company makes, it always wants to make more money. Microsoft wouldn't carry a division that loses money and had no larger strategic benefit for the heck of it. Microsoft's money just means that they can put off those types of decisions longer than Sony.
I imagine that within Microsoft it matters a great deal if a division is doing well or not to the people in that division. Promotions, influence and salary are based on it. Xbox was a brand for Microsoft that had an overall positive public opinion. It was more positive than Microsoft itself. With the horrible roll out of the XB1, that brand has taken a hit. The 180s on policy might not be the only changes Microsoft takes if the XB1 loses more ground to the PS4.
So to Microsoft as a whole, how successful the XB1 is might not be that important, but to the people involved it is very important.
Yeah, that's really cringeworthy. I presume they're hoping investors will be fooled and their stock will rise? Or maybe to inflate the achievement? The thing is doing brilliantly on its own; there's no need to lie in order to try and make it seem even better.
the console can't ever be as powerful as the PS4 (and that's a gap that is often exaggerated),
No. It's not exaggerated. It was calculated EXACTLY before launch and proven EXACTLY in all the launch games.
As long as people act like the power gap between the PS4 and the XB1 is as big as the power gap between a Lamborghini Aventador and a Peugeot 107. Then yes, it's correct to say that that power gap is exaggerated.No. It's not exaggerated. It was calculated EXACTLY before launch and proven EXACTLY in all the launch games.

When their stock sinks like the 2nd coming of the Titanic. Much like Sony's has. Don't kid yourself, underneath the new Sony lies the old one still. You can see traces of it still. Killing off GT5's online and forcing their userbase to buy GT6 shows that one needs to use caution with Sony.

Except no one ever said that. You are exaggerating in your argument that it's been exaggerated.
Should we not also be cautious of MS then?
Go read the Titanfall players thread. You have people in there claiming 6v6 was because the Xbox One is so underpowered and how they look forward to 24v24* in Titanfall 2 on the PS4.
*Number chosen arbitrarily and is not an actual quote.

Whooaa hold your horses. I'm not denying anywhere that the power gap is as big as we expected it to be. If you read my post correctly you'll see that I'm talking about people acting like it is way bigger. You can jump into any random XB1 related thread and you're almost guaranteed to find some posts to prove my point. Best example is the Titanfall thread about the 6v6 player cap.I don't know what the fuck some of you are talking about. The power gap is exactly as big as we thought it was going to be.

What the fuck! You can't do that because that is your narrative.

What are you pissing your pants about? I can't be bothered to look through a 50+ page thread for the exact number and so addressed that at upfront to safe the GAF detectives some time. It could be 12v12, or 32v32 or whatever. Some people brought up MAG, which was at 256 players. The point doesn't change: people were implying that 6v6 wasn't a design decision and was a limitation because the Xbox One hardware couldn't run Titanfall with anything higher.
