PS4 sold 250k, Xbox One 100k in Germany

Have we determined the status of Australia yet?

No we must further investigate this for SCIENCE!!!!

I've always held that Australia was a country, an island and a continent at the same time. That continent could also be referred to as Oceania

That being said I never included New Zealand or the other islands around Australia as part of the continent of Australia but now that i think about it what continent is New Zealand a part of?

Apparently it's a continent! Call Kotaku.

Austrailia is not a country, its a continent!!!! Also i hear that some scientists at the Antarctic research stations got Xbox Ones, and not Ps4s...

This doesn't make sense, though. Unless the fact that "Australia" is the name of the continent nullifies the existance of Australia as a country.

Zealandia.

Wow, people really thought that Oceania is a continent?

~_~

Again: Oceania is considered a continent in some places.

That's why I could sell my two weeks old, used, and torn open ps4 for 600€.

Ps4 hype in Germany was crazy. A fried who works at media marks told me that they are sold out / preorder until the end of February. And that was last November.

At one MM store they had 220 preorders, but sony only send them 30, the boss took 10. They had to tell 200 pissed of customers that thy had to wait a lil longer. Lol.

Why is UK selling a lot more consoles than Germany when Germany has a bigger population by 20 million and the living standards and mean income are about the same in the two countries?

Obviously all of the big games will be ported but some of the smaller ones will not.

Yeah, but, so? Okay, for GAF posters it might be a big deal. Most people buy a handful of games every year and there is no way that EA, Activision, Take2, and Ubisoft are going to stop putting FIFA/Madden, CoD, GTA, and Assassin's Creed on the Xbox One. For a large number of people, it's really of no concern.

It's really flashbacks to the start of last gen. People claiming the PS3 was doomed and that it might be Sony's last console. But they were able to turn it around and it was able to sell well despite always being home to weaker ports and despite being (in general worldwide terms) more expensive than the Xbox 360.

Because the gaming industry is much more well-developed in the UK than in any other European country.

... and how about that PS4 was much more supply constrained in Germany?

You really have to look at these as that's exactly what the XBone would have sold anyways, vs that's all what Sony could have physically sold regardless. The gap would be even bigger if PS4 supplies were greater. MS can almost be thankful right now Sony can't produce enough and choose to spread the shipments thinner. Though in the months and generation ahead, I doubt it would make a dash of difference.

To quote from the PES thread about whether or not it will get an XB1 port:
Some games will not be ported if the XB1 is heavily outsold, it will depend on the game''s budget, the games historical association, the games sales figures and potentially any marketing deals.

Obviously all of the big games will be ported but some of the smaller ones will not.

But how many smaller games will there be? 80k is not a big number for a international publisher like Ubi. PS3 was dominating last gen in germany, but games like Venetica or Risen were only published for consoles on the 360, although those games sell mostly in germany where PS3 dominated. It was because PS3 was to hard to program for and 360 was cheap enough to do a port.

Yes those games were total bugfests, but they decided to release a retail version. This gen Xb1/PS4 porting it is a lot easier, especially for PC games (it's x86 and DirectX, right?). Map the controller and implement the API. Who cares about tearing and bugs?
It's just additional sales.

And smaller developers won't need a million to port a game. The japanese publishers won't probably care about Xb1, but in general everything else should get ported. The indies will also be published on iOS and Android, which is more complicated to do, doing a Xb1 version is no hurdle for them if they do a PS4 version. Usually Unity shouldy cover most. The policies might be. But if you are publishing an AA game is no hindrance to publish for Xb1. The more platforms the better. Even if Xb1 is 20 million behind - you still want to make a port. It's not like on PS3 this time.

This sounds pretty reasonable to me, IMO. I doubt that there will be many games that don't make it to the Xbox One for that reason. I do believe that the possible lower installed base of the Xbox One by such a large margin could lead to less money hatted exclusives, as the cost of buying them could become prohibitive in the face of the opportunity cost of the lost PS4 game sales.

Don't really care about the sales but I will weigh in on the more meaningful discussion about Australia. In the UK, at least when I was at school (which to be fair was 15 years ago) Australasia ( note the "sia" on the end) was the continent. Oceania is just some made up American thing that was on Lost and I think we all know the US' track record on geography.

To sum it up:

Australia: Country
Australasia: Continent
Oceania: Dumb american made up word (seriously, doesn't even show up on my spell check)

OT - something about sales I guess... Um, ooh OK, big number better, small number bad. Yay PiSs4, boo Xboner Juan.

No, PS4 isn't DirectX....It's OpenGL based.

FIFA? no, PES? maybe, estimates are that the last PES sold around 250k on 360 on an install base of 80 million. What do you think the install base of XB1 will be in September? let's be generous and say 10 million, with the same attach rate your looking at around 30k sales, which is much less than 80k

Also It's not just about making a profit, it's about the ROI. Even selling 90k and making a small profit could bring down the ROI and make for some criticism from the investors.

I do love reading about how easy it is to port Console games from people who think both consoles use DirectX though, so keep up the good work.

Different preferences, different culture. As an example, PC gaming is much more popular than in many other countries. In many stores the PC gaming section might be bigger than the one for (at least a single) console. I'd also argue that gaming still isn't as accepted here in Germany.

And besides, the amount of people sitting on their arses playing video games is not necessarily proportional to the prosperity of a country.

I've never actually thought much about the fact the consoles use different APIs for the programming and have always just conceded the fact that since the architecture is closer then it has ever been porting between the two systems would be the easiest.

I wonder how things will turn out then albeit all truly big games will of course be on both systems

So the PS4 surpassed Wii U Germany LTD in a month?

Wii U getting BTF

It will actually be interesting if/when XBone will reach WiiU's LTD numbers (definitely YES in NA and also in Europe just because of the UK, definitely NO in Japan). I think the demand for XBone in Europe will dry up as fast as for WiiU last year though.

Posting it here because I'm new. PS4 launched last month today here in Czech Republic, first guy in line got a 50 inch bravia tv, a hot girl and a limo ride home.

Is there any part of Europe where the Xbox One did better?

Well most of the European countries have yet to see a xbox one release date.
Here in Sweden there is still no date for release. They are speculating that Xbox One might get launched in the fall. Everybody here buys PS4 instead.

lol that's awesome but how exactly do you "get" a hot girl? Does she just have to spend the night with you as a companion or what?

It's the Czech Republic, he probably got blown in the Limo and it'll be up on Redtube within the hour ;)

I know. But PC games are. And porting from PS4 to Xb1 should not be big hurdle this gen, especially if your are talking about smaller games.

This is not the Ps2 era, where you have to support the emotion engine. Xb1 might be less powerfull, but If I was running a third party developer, I would make sure that my game runs on all platforms. Publishing just on only one platform is not the same as it was with the ps2.
