My life is just getting more and more busy, and I'm trying to cut down my backlog. I did calculations last night, based on the rate of episodes I watch on average per month, and I found that it will take me more than three years to finish PTW list (this is also including how many series I pick up per season on average (3)). This is a list of series I either own or have access to, and if something isn't worth seeing, I'd like to cut it. I think from my Plan To Watch list, one can see the sort of thing I'm interested in.

I'm mostly concerned with things over 13 episodes, and I won't be cutting Gundam, Kindaichi, or Saint Seiya.

Thanks in advance to anyone that helps me!

Okay sure except that still leaves us with two separate guys who are the Reincarnation of Buddha.
Three, actually. The protagonists of the Laws of Eternity and The Mystical Laws together with the dude from Rebirth of Buddha. Let's just say these are... minimally fictionalized so it's not "Ryuho Okawa" all the time.

I still haven't cracked a smile. When is the humor ever going to get less, well, basic, for lack of a better word? When it's not ero-humor that just isn't funny, it's telegraphing its jokes and twists in advance. The show has the entire universe to play around with and it still returns to the same doofusy slapstick over and over.

I don't know about cutting back, but Aria and Haibane Renmei should be top priority.

So all three are meant to be Okawa? So in the future Okawa is going to stop China from conquering the world?

I called it.

What happened to episodes 4 and 5?

I had planned on dropping the show. I lied. Rather than make a spectacle of it, I figured I'd just reserve commentary for episodes I felt particularly noteworthy. Chitanda being so dumb she can't figure out her own emotions was worth commenting. A somewhat engaging tale of student rebellion wasn't. My priorities are skewed like that. I hate the character designs in this show.

I'm sort of split on that. On the one hand, Shard hates it, and I consider that a possibility that I will like it (since Shard hates E7 and I love that), on the other hand, I still really don't know enough Mazinger.

I really do question the need for Mazinger to be turned into a magical girl comedy thing.

Chitanda is a moron who cannot understand basic concepts. Like everything.

Mayaka is the best because she treats Hotaro like the shitty loser he is.

Hotaro is a shitty loser.

Satoshi should've been the protagonist.

Okay sure except that still leaves us with two separate guys who are the Reincarnation of Buddha.

It's not like I'm going to forget what a horrible human being Hikaru Ichijo is in the next week or two it takes me to wrap up Getter.

Corvy have you watched Gatchaman crowds? Can you handle genkis?

You accidentally watched it huh. I see..
honestly Im probably going to drop it myself.
Totally!
The recently implies that the change is recent .If you don't put something before the "my sister is unusual" , you imply that she is always unusual and while the premise might be the same it has less power ..
However with "recenty" , you can make the reader / viewer expect to see the reason of the change in behaviour since it's what the show is based on.
You can also make it pass as a "usual sentence one might say" grounding the viewer to expect something related to the change in question.

To make thing simple , it's a classic trick to try to generate more awareness at the subconsious level.
It seems inaccurate to me though. I think it should have been a question as the title. I'd rather discuss the title than the show, ouch.
I don't know about cutting back, but Aria and Haibane Renmei should be top priority.
And Twelve Kingdoms.

At the same time it's dumb enough for me to shrug and say "why not". I mean wasn't there a Panda Mazinger?

Corvy have you watched Gatchaman crowds? Can you handle genkis?

I considered watching Gatchaman Crowds after I finished Casshern Sins. Haven't done it yet. Having a hard time thinking of a specific example of a "genki" character.

Simply put, any Happy Science story that deals with the present is a parable, not a prophecy, and therefore Okawa can create any number of self-contained stories, each with their own self-insert, and none of them contradict each other. Satoru's timeline in The Golden Laws is an idealized vision of a future in which Happy Science becomes the world's religion and an age of unparalleled peace and scientific progress is ushered in, but again it is not explicitly a prediction.

Dude a parable about America slacking off and letting Chinese Nazis run by Lizard men from Space Hell that Jesus Snake needs to stop by wooing their Vegan Scandinavian Venusian dominatrix has what as its moral?

Episode 6 is widely considered the weakest episode, mainly because of that aspect.

That was fun, wish i'd finished this sooner but AOTY voting convinced me to do it tonight at least. Wish they'd eased up on the breast & cucumber jokes though.

Thinking I'll finish Gifu Dodo, catch up on KLK, finish Yamato 2199,and possibly check out Kyousougiga before calling it quits with 2013 stuff and finally write up my vote entry. Need something to push Attack on Titan off the bottom of my list.

Also watch Wolf Children for the movie side.

Maybe a lot of people like them and I just don't? I just hate this style. They look like blobs, with big eyes, boneless faces, no noses, barely any eyebrows or mouths and tiny hands. It just does not please me.

They are all ultra thinly veiled stories about him.

What happens to Happy Science when he dies?

Misaki is the only good one because her hair is batshit insane.
kinda like she is.
I love you Misaki.

I'm not crazy about their style either. It's hard to pin down exactly why, although I think the blobbiness of their faces is part of it. I dunno.

You'll see her in... episode 8, I think, if you ever get that far.

If he can make it through episode 6 the rest should be easy.

The best part of the Hyouka character designs is the hair.

Also, it's not just what the designs look like, it's how you use them. They're really well-suited for KyoAni's fluent animation.

I think Hyouka's designs are more angular than the 'usual' (as in, Horiguchi) kyoani stuff, which seems typical of Nishiya's work. Always loved them, in that they're appealing while remaining distinct with variations across more traits than just hair colour and height.

Not bad. I may take a swing at that when I get into a gaming lull soon.

Do it!

Speaking of things that are Maru! Look what came in the mail today...

Also, Madoka is the best girl. She has all the marus where it counts and is a pimp.

Oh hell yes!

The Light of El Cantare
Or alien lizard men will invade Japan?

Basically, yes. This--namely that there are space lizards perpetually stalking Earth and that they are authorized by a council of alien races from the Venusian diaspora to conquer the planet in the event that mankind fully, irreversibly rejects the TRUTH--is something that Okawa actually believes is an actual potential consequence of a global conflict that results in world domination by atheist fascists. The Space Lizards have been watching us since the time of Rient Arl Croud, so it's established canon.

It's really insane how many unique character designs are in the show, especially once they reach the Festival arc.

Not to mention the scene with the Librarian with a clear progression of age in like 2 seconds.

They are definitely more angular, and more detailed than Horiguchi's and Ikeda's designs. The characters actually have defined fingers in shots other than extreme close-ups and stuff.

However, drawings at Kyoani tend to be more inbred than elsewhere so when you get an AD with a 'blobbier' style, the characters might get kinda blobby as well. Or you'll see the odd K-On face here and there in long shots, probably because the animators were still fresh on that style from the movie and the sakkan didn't get around to correct minor background characters.

Doesn't the council authorizing these lizard dudes sort of fly in conflict with Happy Science's business of being always nice and sugary?

Controversial, misinformed Corvo opinion #2: I think Hyouka's character designs look the same as K-On's.

I still need to get around to watching Hyouka. I'll do it! I swear! Eventually!

Also, I should add that my experience with KyoAni character designs is basically limited to Chu-2 and one episode of KnK, so I'm not exactly an authority. :p

I call it K-On face and it's been KyoAni's default character design since the aforementioned show aired, with various minor permutations depending on the show in question.

I mostly either dislike it or am at least ambivalent to it (K-On is still the worst offender of the lot) but hey, it's better than KEYface, so there's that.

Seriously though, can't we get a show that looks like Nichijou again? Except maybe actually good this time?

I find it hilarious how you've finally lost patience here.

Although, regrettably, I must walk you back just a step. Thoth, Rient Arl Croud, Hermes, and the rest are parts of El Cantare's spirit. Think the parts of Shabranigdo in Slayers. As explained in The Laws of the Sun, it's only the modern reincarnation that represents the main part of El Cantare's soul. Although as I mentioned in a past post, this isn't quite the last and greatest dispensation for them as Jesus is to be reborn as Satoru, and then Moses again 400 years after that to then integrate humanity with galactic societies and whatever.

Simply put, any Happy Science story that deals with the present is a parable, not a prophecy, and therefore Okawa can create any number of self-contained stories, each with their own self-insert, and none of them contradict each other. My request failed ;_;

Thanks for the feedback, though, Zach.
Gotta give it more time lol.

For instance Nadia fans will tell you to cut Nadia down to 1-22 then skip to episode 35 or so. Seriously.

I would tell you to drop Megazone 23, Macross Frontier and for sure keep Twelve Kingdoms. The Daughter of Twenty Faces, just watch the first couple of episodes before the big shift, you'll recognize it, it's like the second or third episode lol, all downhill from there. Only thing redeemable past that point is the OP which is damn catchy.

El Miore destroyed all life on Venus when it became too sinful. There are clearly exceptions for societies that have become irreparably blind to the TRUTH.

Do you like onions?
Durian has a strong onion aftertaste but contains a huge amount of sugar. It has traces of citrus and banas and pineapple at first. I love it.

I haven't had it in a while, although it certainly has the same "bite" as a raw onion from what I can remember.

Well we have the cult of Happy Science, the cult of Hyouka, the cult of Shaft, the cult of Precure, the Dark Homicidal Society of K-On and various other odds and ends groups vying for attention and increased membership of unsuspecting newcomers so yeah, I think you pretty much hit it right on the head!

Rozen Maiden - Germangerman 2

This is a pretty cool idea for a series, as a sort of what-if scenario, although it does appear to actually tie into the original. Hope I'm not missing too much not having watched it.

Good episode, anyway. Jun is depressing, but in a good way, and the hints of further plot stuff are interesting.
