Capcom will not let this live, and even if they did, this probably wouldn't be a good remake.
Edit: oh, and making it play like Resident Evil 4 is missing the entire point of old-style RE games.

Looks to me like they are modding RE 4 to make an RE 2 remake in it.
You know that's how Capcom will do it.

I do. RE2 and RE4 are the two best REs so why not mix both? (sorry REmake you are 3rd best)
I wouldnt mind it. Certainly wanted it for the Wii after RE4 Wiimake released.

I was thinking that at first, but if you look at the video all of those animations for leon are custom (and not very good), and none of the world assets seem to carry over from RE4 at all, so if anything they probably just imported Leon's model from RE4 as a "base".
Also the lightning looks very unity to me.

I have a friend, whose favorite game of all time is RE2. He made dozens of VHS tapes of him beating the game in various challenge ways. That was like a decade ago or more. He just...loves the franchise. But RE2 is HIS ultimate game. He bought whole consoles just for the RE games on it (like the Wii).
So every year, on April 1rst I always tell him that RE2 remake has been announced. Sure he doesn't believe me anymore, but I don't think I'll ever stop.

Why are they even announcing this game so early? Just do the damn game and release it when its ready. Same beef I had with those Chrono Trigger guys. By the time Capcom sends a C&D the game will be all over the net by then.

Well I'll watch this project to see if anything comes from it since Capcom sure as hell isn't doing anything.
Hell no. Beta is content complete. Alpha is anything before beta, I believe.
For example, Day Z's alpha, as the devs put it, represents the pillars of what the game will be, but it's FAR from content complete. Whole systems, weapons, abilities, assets, and even towns are missing from that game.
Chrono-something. And I'm mentally impaired.

I must be one of the few who wouldn't mind a fan revisioning of RE2 like this, even if it ends more RE4 style...
I think it sounds interesting, not what I would want if Capcom themselves were making a RE2 remake, but an interesting take I think could be fun regardless.

Pretty much this. I don't understand the need of these groups to promote their projects so early. They should wait until it's 100% complete and release it to the world.
"Oh hey guys! We are making a remake of this awesome game and we are pro..... Oh wait, C&D letter, never mind..."

I have no problem with RE4 camera in a RE2 remake, but it would require an all new layout and design to make up for the change in around the corner shocks. As long as the atmosphere and tension are retained, meaning keep the slow shambling zombies that continuously push forward and represent a seemingly inescapable and truly awful death. The small city setting deserves far better treatment than RE:ORC.
If Capcom does embrace this like they did with Mega Man vs Street Fighter, I hope it doesn't mean it's the best we'll ever get. I commend the effort, but there could be something amazing with an experienced team with a modest budget.

Well, because RE2 was made a certain way and RE4 was made a different way, and the choices made in the direction of each of those games dictated the design and challenge and approach to making fun gameplay. It's not impossible to remake a classic-style Resident Evil game with a free-roaming camera and have it be fun (I guess?,) but it'd be very unlikely without super-heavy modification of the gameplay and game balance that'd make it no longer Resident Evil 2 in any viable way and instead something else entirely different.
You liked REmake, so you're familiar with Resident Evil remaking done right. I think everybody is crossing their fingers and hoping (in vain, so far) that Capcom does one of its best games ever right and remakes it via a similar approach.
Except for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil Remake.
