He wasn't going to be traded anyway, unless you meant Parenteau though I find that doubtful too. No way did Montreal turn down a Bourque for PAP swap, unless Montreal Marc Bergevin is a complete idiot.

I'm scared as to what the Blues will do at the trade deadline, if they added pieces like Miller and Callahan then they would be a lot more formidable that they already are.

We're definitely losing Cally. Sounds like the Rangers are actually getting really close to a deal with Girardi, but Cally is looking more and more like he's gone.

Blues GAF - what's good with Ty Rattie? If a hypothetical deal involving callahan and stewart went down, what would the Rangers have to add to get Rattie as well?

Lol I would take last year's AHL Sens team over this year's crappy ass healthy 'Veteran' team.

Philips goes out for 2 games and we win 2 games in a row.
Spezza goes out and we have our longest win streak of the season.
Neil goes down, we go on a win streak as well.

Fraser played pretty well last year, but that cracked skull and knee injury really seemed to take the life out of him.

I don't understand the move though from the Oilers perspective. Sure, all they gave up were some low-tier prospects, but don't they already have enough low-skill players?

Good pick up for the oil.Tough stay home D-man.Fraser should add some much needed grit to the back end. If he finds his Mojo, like he had last year it will be a steel of a deal. As for the Leafs: A ECHL 4th liner and a guy playing in the KHL. That = zero return on Fraser. Sure hope Nonis put a bow on Fraser. Its always a nice touch when you give a gift. Other then saving some cap space(1.275 mill) the leafs got taken to the proverbial cleaners. Nice job Nonis. P.S. wake up.

Cap space was more important. This nugget of truth doesn't take into the fact the dude was slow, couldn't fight anymore, and made poor decisions. Last year, he was a warrior and contributed greatly. This year, he is Gleason-lite. I like having just Ranger as a 7th as that is where he belongs and it will save me some heart attacks watching his terrible pinches.

I wanted Fraser gone for a bag of pucks, and we more or less got that. Leafs win this trade.

I love reading the Oiler blogs and people who are real happy with the deal. Saying things like "Oilers got an NHL caliber d-man", "tough stay at home player".

He fucking couldn't crack the Leafs top 6, that tells you all you need to know. Wait until they see Fraser play, I wonder how long it'll take before they realize why he was traded.

If one or both of Hartikainen and Komarov come back next year, that should pretty much solve all the fourth line issues, especially with D'Amigo having a pretty good first few NHL games.

Fraser sucks. I mean, he was a decent bottom pairing guy for most of last season, but he has definitely been below replacement level since his injury troubles.

Komarov left because he didn't want to play the 3rdline/4th line game though, hard to see him coming back.

A fair gamble for the Oilers. Almost anybody at D is worth a gamble right now, and the junk the Oilers sent is worthless. I saw Abner play with the Oil Kings, big and useless, and don't think for a second that Hartikainen is capable of being an NHLer. Showed nothing as an Oiler and barely relevant in the KHL.

Oilers take a gamble. Leafs get nothing. Oilers win this trade.

Abner won't be re-signed, and Hartikainen is a guy who can come to camp and prove himself without taking a contract spot. At the very least, the Leafs get $1.25m in cap space in exchange for their 8th defenceman.

I think it was said somewhere that he wanted to make the Olympic team, and a scoring role in the KHL gave him a better shot. Maybe that was just hearsay, though.

I think he'll be back.

Most important fact about Fraser this season: He couldn't beat out Paul Ranger to be the 7th D on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

People forget about cap space when they talk about getting nothing. In today's game, cap space is an asset as much as a player.

Not much of a salary dump. He's not even signed long term. So Oilers pay half that salary for somebody that is going to get bottom pairing ice time in the NHL and a tryout for continuing that role in future years. Well worth the gamble IMO.

It's basically a minimum wage contract for that experience, so half that is hardly what I would consider a salary dump. Chump change for a chump. Since the Leafs got nothing, if they want to consider that a salary dump as justification, then so be it. Oilers are happy with the deal and don't feel ripped off in the slightest.

So one good thing came out of last night's game: Anders Lindback is out until after the Olympics. Taken out by Cory Conacher.

That Bishop trade paying off at both ends.
