So how did they back out of the Mcmahon death story line?

Uh, the not-storyline Benoit Murders?

He came out and pretty much explained it away during the "Triubte" show.

Well I'm going to tune in tonight. I just hope John Cena isn't in the main event, otherwise I may not tune in next week.

Over/under on a 3.0 rating for Raw?

over.. the 2.5 was apparently the product of a glitch. But the ratings have still been low. I'll say Raw does a 3.6 3.7 simply because of the return of Mcmahon and the circumstances in which he left.

I say 3.3. This ratings trend will not be ending so soon.

I believe that Meltzer said on Figure Four Daily that the actual Raw rating was most likely going to be around 2.9-3.0 despite the Neilsen error, which is still a pretty bad rating for Raw.

I'd like it to be under 3.0 just to read about Vince's meltdown in the upcoming week. :D

Give me a frame of reference, whats a poor, good, great rating?

Superbowl =

Raw at its peak =

Raw Today = between 2.5 - 3.3

At its peak, Raw was hovering around the 6.0 mark and exceeding that mark quite a few times in 1999/2000.

2001/2002 saw a slight decline, but they were still doing pretty great numbers (mid 4.0's to mid 5.0's).

Raw has been in the 3.5-low 4.0's range for about 5 years now.

I'd say that a 4.0+ rating is great for the WWE now, especially when you compare today's roster to years past. 3.5-3.9 is a solid, but not spectacular rating range, and it's pretty much been the average for years now.

Anything below a 3.5 is not good for Raw, and getting below a 3.0 = panic button and memories of the dark age of wrestling (early/mid 90's, especially 1995).

Here's a good website that has the full ratings history of Raw (and Smackdown as well):

So what exactly is Vince striking back against?

If people don't know, then people won't care enough to tune in. You can't lure in viewers with vague bullshit.

The fact that someone tried to blow him up, maybe?

I think I will check out the start of Raw live this week, but if Vince continues the death angle I'll leave it to the DVR again and watch it during the week

I hope he doesn't 'fight back' against all the media bashing wrestling now. If he goes straight non kayfabe and tells Nancy Grace to go to hell, that would be something else.

ADAM “PACMAN” JONES SIGNS CONTRACT WITH TOTAL NONSTOP ACTION (TNA) WRESTLING

(August 6, 2007) Nashville, Tenn. – Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling has signed an exclusive contract with one of pro football’s most gifted, yet controversial athletes.

Adam “Pacman” Jones joins the pro wrestling company that features U.S. Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle and such wrestling stars as Sting, Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash, Jeff Jarrett and Christian Cage.

Jones will make his first in-ring appearance on Thursday, August 9, on iMPACT!, which airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Spike TV. He is scheduled to appear on TNA’s “Hard Justice” pay-per-view on Sunday, August 12, from Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla., to reveal his plans for the season.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

TNA also has been the wrestling home to such sporting greats as Brian Urlacher, David Eckstein, A.J. Pierzynski, Johnny Damon, Frank Wycheck, Kyle Vanden Bosch and Andre Rison, among others. Jones, a cornerback and return specialist for the Tennessee Titans, was the 6th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft out of West Virginia University. He has been suspended for the 2007 NFL season for off-the-field personal conduct matters.

“I am a big fan of wrestling, so I wanted to give it a try,” Jones said. “I respect wrestling and I’m not coming in like it’s just a show. I want to prove that I am the greatest team-sport athlete.”

“Pacman is a gifted athlete and though he has had some serious off-the-field issues, he has a chance to take his suspension and turn it into a positive, something good,” said TNA President Dixie Carter. “We met with him numerous times before signing the contract, and each time we were thoroughly impressed with his desire to change his image, train hard and his commitment to take this opportunity to show a different side of himself.”

Jones initially appealed the NFL suspension, however, on June 12, he withdrew his appeal.

“We are well aware of the controversy that might surround this signing, but it is our goal to help Pacman during his time away from football,” Carter said. “Pacman wants to change his life, so we will do everything in our power to surround him with a positive work environment and people who will help him achieve his goal.”

Jones will be the second active member of the Tennessee Titans to step into the TNA ring. In June, Pro Bowl defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch was in the the corner of former Titans’ Pro Bowl tight end Frank Wycheck for a tag-team match. Wycheck and Jerry Lynn teamed up against James Storm and Ron Killings, and, with Vanden Bosch’s assistance, Wycheck and Lynn scored the victory.

“Everything I saw from my experience with TNA is, it is a great company. The organization does things the right way,” Vanden Bosch said. “This could be an opportunity for Pacman to show what kind of person he is, not the way he’s been portrayed.”

Jones joins an illustrious list of NFL players who have made the jump from the football field to the wrestling ring, including Bill Goldberg, Steve McMichael, Wahoo McDaniel and Ernie ‘The Cat’ Ladd.

Pacman will be trained at his suburban Nashville home by several TNA pros. TNA co-founder and former World Champion Jeff Jarrett is among those who have already helped train Jones in the ring.

“Over the next couple of months, I think the world is going to see a different side of Pacman, one it hasn’t seen before,” Jarrett said. “You will really see his personality come out, not just his athletic ability. He’s very coachable in the ring and his athletic talent is amazing. He can watch something one time and pick it up. He’s just gifted. He’s the best all-around athlete I have ever seen.”

I really don’t think the company (people on the board) would let that happen these days. I think the only way something like that would happen these days would be if the WWE had some real competition... or maybe if the ratings were in the mid 2's for a few weeks.

In all honesty I would love something controversial to happen. If they were to go for it though they need to stay far away from the word Benoit, steroids, and also not come across as mocking people. Regretfully, I have no confidence in WWE writing something controversial, but keeping the tone of it right, these days. They always seem to take a dig at people or overdo things these days which just wont work if they go that direction.

I was hoping Booker or Kennedy would get the job temporarily seeing as how they're being burried at the moment. But it was great to see Regal win. He'll be better than Coach.
