191 Jobs postings at Sony this month point to something massive happening.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but didn't Sony buy Gaikai for Network infrastructure/PSnow. So with Gaikai focusing on PSNow why would there be a need for 191 jobs pouring into PS Now?

Again apologies if my facts are incorrect!

Rigby posts a non-technical thread about something going on with Sony and people are still confused at what he is hinting at.... Hopefully they are just amping up the PS Now service and expanding it into something great...

People are seriously underestimating the effect that a $99 Playstation branded Roku box could have on the content delivery market. It's literally a device custom tailored to ride the wave of brand recognition the PS4 is enjoying and penetrating the emerging market of application-based IPTV.

The Vita itself may not be a rousing commercial success when compared to the 3DS, but it has laid out a framework for some interesting business ventures via a Roku spinoff. If you're Sony, that's a perfect storm to disrupt traditional cable TV and dip your fingers in a growing market that younger people are more willing to spill money on.

If they could get DLNA2, PSNow and the rumoured IPTV service on PSTV, then it would be a hell of a product.

It could work well if:

A) It has a good selection of Media Apps
B) Every single PlayStation TV (even the 99€/$ bundle) should come with a TV Remote.
C) A good and intuitive interface that adapts to a TV screen would. It could be a modified version of the VitaOS (more stuff per page, smaller icons that suit bigger screens, no more 3-4-3 icon structure but something that would work nicely with a D-Pad)
D) PSNow must not suck.
E) The PlayStation TV itself should have a decent line-up of both old and new games. They should start by patching games like Uncharted, Killzone and others. If they original teams don't want / exist hire a small team to patch them.
F) Market it.
G) Bundles that appeal to a wide audience. Some ideas:
  • DualShock + PlayStation Now bundle
  • PlayStation Plus Bundle
  • 430-450€/$ PS4 + PlayStation TV
  • PlayStation TV Bundle Media Bundle (Netflix, Music Unlimited and other services)
  • PlayStation TV + Disney Infinity 2.0
H) Add external drive support. I hope they don't expect people to buy big Vita memory cards to use that thing, right?

I don't get why there isn't a Vita version of Little Big Plannet 3. It'd be quite a nice game to bundle and push the system during the holidays.

A 99$/€ BlackFriday sale could do wonders too.

You will drive development projects from inception through deployment on a worldwide scale across device platforms. Programs will impact how millions of customers will play games on their PS4, TV, Vita, Mobile and other devices. Collaborating with stakeholders of multiple worldwide business units and 3rd parties to clearly identify, explain, and communicate their project involvement, goals, expectations, and tasks

CONFIRMED

Not with that UI.
Too much influence from the OLPC Sugar interface which is touchscreen only. Windows 8 tries to be everything and is equally bad. It will be interesting to see how Sony solves this UI issue.

I think that is what we are all waiting to hear, as well as the rest of the UI updates and missing features. If they plan on launching them all at teh same time as one massive update, then that would be a megaton!

If it's not in italics it's a quote.

And yet even more news for companies preparing for what's coming. Google just announced Android TV.

Google targets Amazon's and Apple's set-top boxes with Android TV platform

It runs apps from other content providers like Netflix, of course, and allows you to pump live TV (OTA for ATSC 2.0 and Cable TV (No DVR but PS4, XB1, network drives or Windows 8.1 is available)) through the interface SiliconDust's TV tuners will work. HTML 5.0 (Cable Labs recommendation to the W3C) and Android L will both support Silicon Dust HD Homerun tuners.

Android TV will be in Sony, Sharp and Philips TVs next year

While its new Android TV flavor of Android L will hit the streets in set-top boxes aimed at game consoles and media streamers, it announced that next year smart TVs from Sony (all of its 4K and smart TVs), Sharp and TP Vision/Philips will ship with the OS.

everything needed to handle video from HDMI, TV tuners or IPTV receivers is now natively included in Android L.

Razer's making a gaming 'micro-console' with Android TV, available this fall

The micro-console can "stream movies, music and other apps for large-screen entertainment," says Razer, "with an emphasis on gaming." Sounds a lot like Amazon's Fire TV, no? The difference here is that Razer's also promising "hardcore" gaming,

HTC vows to bring Android L to One M8, M7 soon. Android L would update the Phones to support the whole home Tuner/DVR (both cable and OTA).

Timing is "Soon", this fall and included in next year's Smart TVs. Each will be advertising their products and what they will do. Buzz words will be coined and the public educated starting this fall.

Sony Plans to Turn Game Division into Media Hub
Sony to Develop Service to Stream Games and Media onto Phones, Tablets, Other Devices

Andrew House, chief executive of the game unit, said in an interview Thursday that his unit was talking with a range of potential content partners for a planned Internet television service that Sony intends to introduce in the U.S. by the end of the year. Sony last week disclosed details of one such agreement with Viacom Inc., VIAB +0.10% under which it will be able to stream more than 20 channels, including MTV and Nickelodeon.

Mr. House said Sony also intended to develop a service to stream videogames onto smartphones, tablets and other devices from a range of manufacturers other than Sony.

"A streaming-based approach needs to have a very wide funnel of devices, and that inherently means a broad- and manufacturer-agnostic approach," said Mr. House, who was attending the Tokyo Game Show in this Tokyo suburb.

As PlayStation fans, you’ve probably heard a few whispers about “Powers” — the original live-action series set to premiere exclusively on PSN in the United States this December.

As announced at E3, every PSN user in the United States will receive the first episode of “Powers” for free, and, continuing SCEA’s efforts to bring more value to the PlayStation Plus subscription service, PS Plus members will be able to view the entire “Powers” series for free.
Which partially explains the 191 June job postings in the OP.

I'd be willing to bet that Share 2.0 is part of the roadmap with Sony advertising PS4 and PS Now game streaming to other platforms
