Clearly, a show for the ages.

It’s a two-cour noitaminA show about mecha and revolutions and j-pop internet idols and chicks in revealing dresses and fabulous dudes with magic swords fighting random stuff.
When you stop to actually think about how good the show might be you are struck instead by the realization that it’s probably going to be shit and that to watch this is to witness the incremental demise of an once-quality timeslot, but who cares.
It really can’t get any better than this! Cute girls in wheelchairs piloting giant robots pivoting out of slow-mo explosions framed against glittering cityscapes - mildly retarded half-naked chicks whispering things into the protagonist’s ear as he pulls stuff out of them to fight THE GOVERNMENT- damn, guys, this is going to be brilliant!

After the outbreak of the unidentified virus "Lost Christmas" in 2029, Japan has been under the control of a multi-nation organization called GHQ. Ohma Shu is a 17 year old boy who has a psychic power in his right hand. He can use the power "Ability of King" to extract tools or weapons from his friends. He has been avoiding making trouble for others but his life changes when he meets a girl named Yuzuriha Inori, a member of a resistance guerrilla group called "Undertaker", whose members pilot mecha weapons to fight against the government.

Anime Saving Potential: 30%

Second of the two noitaminA shows airing this season. Not expecting much. On one hand you have guys who worked on the original FMA and Oh! Edo Rocket working on this, but on the other hand they also did some questionable things like direct Gundam 00 or write Angel Cop and Shikabane Hime.

Private detectives have been out of fashion for many years, but that's how Shinjurou Yuuki identifies himself. With his superior deductive powers, Shinjurou solves various challenging cases. Meanwhile, Inga, an attractive young lad, serves as Shinjurou's “buddy”. But contrary to his cute appearance, he's a sharp, arrogant rogue. Why Inga sticks with Shinjurou is not immediately apparent.

The setting of the story is a post-war Tokyo of the future, one that still bears the scars of war. Ruling the land is Media King Rinroku Kaishou, who has the communications infrastructure under his thumb, giving him great power over both politics and industry. Kaishou is renowned for his use of logic and the massive amount of information at his fingertips to solve a great number of mysteries. But unbeknownst to the public at large, most of those discoveries have been the work of Shinjurou Yuuki, "the Last Great Detective." (The public, in fact, regards Shinjurou as a loser, and gives him the nickname, "Defeated Detective".) Still, Shinjurou, together with Inga, can't help but search for the truth.

Chihayafuru

J0IX7.jpg

http://youtu.be/zAU2eGJKjxM

Anime Saving Potential: 65%

One of the very few shows this season with a chance to actually be good. It’s a fluffy shoujo josei about card games and romance. Morio Asaka is directing.

All her life, Chihaya's dream was to see her model sister become Japan's best... That is, until a quiet, unassuming transfer student named Arata tells her otherwise. A dream, he explains to her, is something she needs to work at herself.

Arata plays a competitive version of a traditional Japanese card game--known as Hyakunin Isshu--in a way Chihaya has never seen before. After taking Arata's place in a game, Chihaya discovers she has a passion for it. Now Chihaya wants to become number one in the world, the Queen of Karuta.

Mirai Nikki

gjvXY.jpg

http://youtu.be/ieoktcpgMqs

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

From the director of Shuffle and the writer of Boku no Pico. Scheduled to run through Fall and Winter. It’s based off the popular manga of the same name, which started off as an enjoyable death-game affair featuring a wimply Shinji-esque lead paired off with his extraordinarily capable, murderous, obsessive girlfriend. The good news, especially for fans of the manga, is that with 24+ episodes it’ll likely cover the entire story. The bad news is that it’s going to be a bad show.

Yukiteru always rejected any offers to go with friends and just keeps writing a diary on his cell phone. He has what he believes is an imaginary friend called Deus Ex Machina. However, one day Deus asks him to play a survival game along with eleven others. The winner becomes the next Deus Ex Machina. In order to win, the contestants must use their diaries of the future to eliminate one another. For Yukiteru to survive, he must team up with another diary holder, a girl named Yuno.

Maken-Ki

Length of the trailer: 90 seconds.

Assuming that the average episode is 23 minutes long, there will be 276 pantyshots every episode. What a deal!

Nonoriri - "Maken-ki: The legendary NTR/ahegao ero-manga and doujinshi author Takeda Hiromitsu brings you a generic fanserivice harem anime.”

Takeru Ohyama, a young normal yet perverted minded guy, got accepted and now goes to a school that, unknown to him, was where combat and magic is used. On the first day, he meets again after three years: Haruko Amaya, his childhood friend, Inaho Kushiya, a girl who says she's his fiance, and Kodama Himegami, a blonde who wants to kill him. Finding out that there are many girls there that just don't like him, he is told that everyone there uses a special magic ability while using an item or weapon called a Maken. Later, he finds that no Maken is acceptable for him and doesn't know what to do, since in this school the students get into duels that showcase their magic and combat power, to which he seemingly has none.

It’s Hunter x Hunter, remade.

Gon Freecs, a young boy that lives on a small island learns that his father who he doesn't remember is an extremely famous man and has become somewhat of an amazing hunter. Gon takes the hunter exam to seek out his amazing father, but on the way while teaming up with 3 other candidates, Kurapica, Leorio, and Killua, he learns that there is more to becoming a hunter and the challenges that he must face will be beyond his imaginations.

Fate/Zero

S0Vj9.jpg

http://youtu.be/tQLvoubbie4

Anime Saving Potential 25%

It’s Type-Moon shit with no Nasu, the writer of Fate/Stay Night, he of the curious mollusk sex fetish.

Instead of Nasu, it has Gen Urobuchi, he of the recent Madoka fame among other things, penning... the series of light novels on which the anime is based. It’s reasonable to assume that at the very least, we won’t have much in the way of teenage sexcapades with Molluscan allusions; Fate/Zero isn’t about horny teenagers, it’s about manly men doing manly things, like killing each other, or crying. None of the previews we’ve seen so far have been particularly promising - most of it is just close-ups of floating CG logos with a second here and there of actual animation - but the fans should eat this up. Ei Aoki, coming off of Wandering Son, is directing.

Expect every conversation about this show in the anime thread to go like this:

a: so guys I just watched fate zero and--

b: LOL TYPE MOON

a: and--

b: LOL UFOTABLE

Fate/zero takes place 10 years prior to the events of Fate/stay night, detailing the events of the 4th Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. The War of the Holy Grail is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete to obtain the power of the "Holy Grail," which grants a miracle. After three inconclusive wars for the elusive Holy Grail, the Fourth War commences.

Founded by the Einzbern, Matō, and Tōsaka families centuries ago, the Einzbern family is determined to achieve success after three successive failures, no matter the cost. As a result, they have elected to bring the hated magus killer, Kiritsugu Emiya, into their ranks, despite his methods and reputation as a skilled mercenary and a hitman who employs whatever he can use to accomplish his goals...

Persona 4: The Animation

0o2iu.png

http://youtu.be/jOhkqf5qulE

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

It’s Persona 4. Fans of the game are going to watch it. People who only watched the Endurance Run are going to watch it in lieu of actually playing the game. People who never played the game are going to watch it because of the hype. It won’t be great, but I doubt it’ll be awful either - decent at best, below-average at worst - ultimately, just another forgettable show made for the fans of the game. And that’s fine.

Yu arrives in a small town called Inaba, currently undergoing some population renovation via corpse decorations adorning telephone poles. Rumors of a mysterious channel visible only at night abound, where it is said that those who appear on the channel have something happen to them, dunno.

Shakugan no Shana III

t7ACP.jpg

http://youtu.be/Fhu7v8XQLwU

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

It’s more Shana, the third and final season of this mediocre saga. Expect tsun-tsun, and a JC Staff’d ending that will make the fanboys cry.

Sakai Yuuji, a high school student who expected his normal life to last forever, is dead. When he was on his way home he witnessed a shocking view as the world suddenly froze: people were engulfed by blue flames and a monster resembling a large doll swallowed them. Just as the monster prepared to consume Yuuji, a sword-wielding girl in black attire with flaming red eyes and hair that burns like embers saved him from the monster.

Horizon on the Middle of Nowhere

http://youtu.be/c9bTjuU-IfE

Anime Saving Potential: 8%

Big boobs, Sunrise, director of Dragonaut, no noses.

Horizon has the dubious honor of being that one show (assuming Guilty Crown doesn’t blow up two, three episodes in and takes up the mantle) where people will watch expecting nothing but mediocrity, where mediocrity is in fact the main draw.

In the very far future, Humans have returned from the skies down to Earth again. In order to be able to reach the skies once more, people have created a history book called “Testament,” and follow its contents to reproduce events in History. However, the book stops at the year 1648, which means that fate will stop and the world will end at that date. People have mixed emotions as each nation goes on reproducing history while exploring ways to open their future. And so, the world has reached 1648, and therefore, the end of its fate. Some colossal changes are in store….

Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing

nSxTD.jpg

http://youtu.be/YiOYVepzy4M

Anime Saving Potential: 25%

It’s more Last Exile, from that bastion of quality, Gonzo. The deck is kinda stacked against this jaunt into the Last Exile universe - it’s fucking Gonzo, it’s another outing in a setting that probably didn’t need it, and all the art makes it look like a moe-moe (pronounced moh-ay) cash-in on the franchise, just Gonzo flipping through their backlog for a hit. One of the positives is that the director and a few others from the original show is back for another stab at the series, hinting perhaps at motives beyond just simple profit, but the composition is being done by the genius writer of bombshells like A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives, Legend of Legendary Heroes, Linebarrels of Iron, and a few select episodes of Sacred Seven. What a record.

Set as a sequel to the original Last Exile that aired in 2003, Last Exile: Fam, The Silver Wing is a story about great air battles with flying machines, powerful armies, and mysterious organizations. The main character is Fam Fan Fan, a fifteen-year-old girl who gets caught up in a war between two nations. Ades, the antagonist, wants the princess of Turan dead. With the help of Dio Eraclea, Fam and her friend Giselle Collette try to thwart the efforts of Ades.

Anime Killing Potential: 87%

This is going to be bad.

The anime looks to emphasize the harem aspects of the series while playing up the fanservice, and the awful art doesn’t help. They have dwarf-faces, all squashed up with giant eyes and lips pressed together in a style reminiscent of KEY-art. It’s not appealing, is in fact quite hideous, and the generally poor quality of the footage we’ve seen so far is the very opposite of promising.

Also has the honor of having the worst opening song this season. Really, it’s trash all around.

The story revolves around Kodaka Hasegawa, a half-Japanese/half-British transfer student whose delinquent-like blonde hair scares people, and a seemingly perpetually sullen girl named Yozora Mikazuki. The two decide to form Rinjinbu, a club for people with hardly any friends.

Phi Brain: God’s Puzzle

http://youtu.be/MbTwfPbR5jc

Anime Saving Potential: 10%

This could be pretty fun, who knows. Most notable thing about the show seems to be that Junichi Sato is directing, so maybe all the puzzles and mazes and such are just ploys to insert heartwarming scenes into hot blooded shonen situations.

Kaito, a puzzle-loving high school freshman, is selected as a candidate for "Phi Brain". He and his friend Nonah find an "unsolvable puzzle" near their school. The puzzle turns out to be a life-threatening "philosopher's puzzle" created by the mysterious group POG. After successfully solving the puzzle, Kaito is designated as a Solver and is joined by other Solvers as they battle POG all over the world by solving the "philosopher's puzzles".

Anime Saving Potential: 15%

ZZZ Potential: 45%

It’s another ‘healing anime’ from Junichi Sato. Expect fluffy cute feelings emanating from cartoon girls to soothe your weary heart, but with cameras and stuff. The OVAs were apparently pretty good.

Tamayura centers around a young girl named Fu Sawatari who moves to Takehara, Hiroshima to begin her first year of high school. Her father, now dead, grew up in Takehara, and this is her first time back in the town in five years. Fu enjoys photography and is often engrossed with taking pictures with her father's old Rollei 35S film camera. A shy girl, Fu tries her best to make friends early on, spurred on by her childhood friend Kaoru Hanawa. She quickly becomes friends with two other girls, Maon Sakurada and Norie Okazaki.

It’s Gundam, so it’s kind of a big deal, I guess.

Meh.
In A.G. 101 (the 101st year of the Advanced Generation calendar) a mysterious entity known only as "UE", or "unknown enemy", attacks and destroys the space colony Angel. This brutal attack becomes infamous as the "The Day the Angel Fell", and marks the beginning of humanity's war for survival. The series begins in A.G. 108 when the UE attack the space colony Ovan, where Flit Asuno lives with his mother. Flit's mother is killed by the UE, and in her belongings (in an object called a "AGE Device") he discovers the blueprints for a powerful weapon from the past--the ancient messiah named "Gundam."

From these blueprints, Flit spends the next several years studying engineering at an Earth Federation base on the Nora space colony and designing the AGE-1 Gundam AGE-1 Normal. Seven years later, in A.G. 115, Flit completes the Gundam AGE-1 Normal, just as the UE attack Nora. Flit and his lineage's battle piloting the AGE-1 to protect mankind is about to begin.

Wacky premise shows some promise, but really, it’s going to turn to haremshit so why bother?

EmmanuelMunoz - “If you have ever been in no holds bar fight for a half-price bento box, you can relate to this show. There are wizards, secret societies, and vicious battles, what is not to like? You will never look at day old supermarket food the same way again!”

The story revolves around a poor high school student named Yō Satō. Satō goes to the supermarket one day and discovers a bentō (boxed meal) on sale at half price. Just as he reaches to grab it, he ends up on the floor unconscious - Satō has just entered the fierce, no-holds-barred "supermarket survival battle" for half-price bentō!

Shun, Kaname, and the twins Yuuki and Yuuta have been friends since kindergarten. It's a little hard to tell if they actually get along or not - but even as high-school students, they hang out together. Recently, they've had a new addition; a half-Japanese transfer student Chizuru, who has started to liven up the group.

Silver Link, that stalwart studio behind the lackluster Baka Test series, is back for something more serious with Shin Oonuma at the helm! Expect this to be a terrible show.

The one very small argument in its favor is that Michiko Yokote is attached to it - credited with working on stuff like Big Windup, Gintama, random episodes of Bebop, and even the Bakeneko arc in Ayakashi - but it seems unlikely that this is going to change anything about and how bad it will be. Besides 'Michiko Yokote' is supposed to be a team of writers headed by a woman named Michiko, or something. So who knows!

The story begins when a high school student named Haruaki Yachi receives a mysterious, super-heavy black cube from his father overseas. That night, Haruaki wakes up to a suspicious noise in the kitchen, and he discovers a "fully naked female thief of rice crackers." The girl, Fear, is the first of several surprises that Haruaki receives.

Working’!!

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

ZZZ Potential: 45%

It’s the second season of Working!!, now called Working’!!. Expect the third season to be called Working”!!.

For whatever reason I was fond of its first season - it was a mostly dull show filled with annoying characters, but the two cute girls it had somewhat kept me amused through all those episodes - but I was really bored by the preview episode that was released a few weeks ago for the second season, and most likely won’t bother with the series anymore.

A new director and writer are behind the show now, and the changes were somewhat noticeable, yet it’s still the same old Working!! in the end.

Set in a family restaurant in Hokkaido, the northern prefecture of Japan, 16 year old high school student Takanashi Souta works part-time along with his strange co-workers: Taneshima Poplar, a high school girl who's a year older than Souta and easily mistaken for an elementary/middle schooler, and Shirafuji Kyouko, the 28-year old store manager who doesn't bother to do any work at all.

http://youtu.be/AswOxcbf-pQ

Anime Saving Potential: 0%

It’s an eroge adaptation. Director of Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka for you poor saps out there.

Somewhere along the way the main character will stumble over a member of the harem girls, gripping one of their breasts while simultaneously pulling off their panties with the other hand. It’ll be somewhat glorious, but mostly sad, because deep inside you’ll know that this is your hobby and this is what it has become, this pitiful trade, each frame drawn for the sole purpose of selling figurines and pillows to people just as lonely as you.

The second-year student of the Kawakami Academy, Naoe Yamato, had valuable friends.
Four boys and three girls. They’ve grown up together, doing silly things since they were small.
Many things happened, but they’re all still friends. It’s a comfortable atmosphere.
Two new members join the group, and their world gets even more rowdy.
All the girls in the group know martial arts and have samurai blood.

Yaoi Potential: Guaranteed

I really don’t know much about this show other than that it’s the sequel to the DEEN yaoi show. Approximately three people on this board will watch this.

Onodera Ritsu, a literary editor, resigns from his father's publishing company, due to his coworkers' jealousy of his success, claiming that he is simply riding his father's business. He applies for a position at Marukawa Publishing, but instead of his preferred department of literature he is placed in the infamous shōjo manga department, Emerald. He initially considers resigning, especially because he finds his new boss, Masamune Takano, intolerable and unnerving from the very beginning; however, Takano inadvertently convinces Onodera to stick with the job by calling him "useless," his pride forcing him to stay in order to prove his worth. Later, Onodera learns that Takano's old family name was Saga, an older schoolmate from high school that Ritsu fell in love with and confessed to.

Bakuman begins with Moritaka Mashiro, a junior high student, leaving his notebook containing a drawing of his crush and classmate Miho Azuki in class. When he notices and returns to the classroom after school, his classmate Akito Takagi is waiting for him with the notebook and tells him that he believes Azuki likes Mashiro too. Mashiro ends up thinking that Takagi also likes Azuki. Takagi tries to persuade him to become a manga artist and draw the art for the stories he writes. However, Mashiro is reluctant due to his disillusion with modern society and the fate of his uncle, a former serialized manga artist who died from overwork while trying to regain that status.

When Takagi calls Mashiro and tells him he intends to confess to Azuki, Mashiro runs to Azuki's house and finds Takagi waiting for him. Takagi calls out to Azuki, telling her that he and Mashiro are aiming to be manga artists; in response, she reveals that she wants to be a voice actress. Thinking of the romantic misadventures of his uncle, Mashiro proposes to Azuki, who accepts under the condition that they will only marry after both achieve their dreams. With a goal before him, Mashiro sets out to make this dream a reality: to have Azuki voice the heroine of the anime adaptation of his manga. To have the highest probability for success, he and Takagi vow to become serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump and attempt to create one of the most popular manga in the magazine.

A great OP for a mediocre season.

Persona 4 the Animation will rock though. But I also fit into all of the categories you mentioned, so...

Truly a thread for the ages.

Anyway, I'll watch at least the first episodes of Chihayafuru, Fate/Zero, Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam, Persona 4, Tamayura, and Un-Go, then go from there. Mawaru Penguin Drum and Sket Dance will be the continuing shows I keep up on. Count me out on the Guilty Crown party, unless it actually manages to out-Geass Geass.

So much bad to choose from. SnS, Guilty Crown, P4 the anime, Ben-to, Boku wa Tomodachi, etc. Ill watch SnS and Guilty Crown to see how bad they're going to be. SnS season 2 was an awful watch, so I'll just assume the 3rd season will be worse, and Guilty Crown looks like an lolworthy bad show.
