^Sorry Bridge of Spies, Creed, and The Martian but only a limited amount of space in that OT.

Anyway, GAF had one of these a couple years ago when I was a lurker and I wanted to bring it back. Basically, this'll be a thread for every film awards program with the exception of the Golden Globes and the Oscars. A place for FilmGAF and non-film GAF to see what's been getting praise. I'll be using this post to keep track of wins only, but will link to nominations if there are nominations.

Just nominations for these.

Personally, I love the politics game of these film awards shows, and this is the first year in a while there isn't a clear frontrunner at this point in the game. It's gonna be a lot of fun!

These are quite surprising.

Not that they're bad by any means, both movies and actors are very good, but still surprising to see them win yearly awards.

LA Film Critics are seeming fairly friendly to Mad Max.

I don't think "Joy" is going to do anywhere near as well as people might have thought. Same with "Revenant."

That's quite surprising considering it's for Ex Machina, not The Danish Girl.

Critical reception has not been super great for The Danish Girl, which tends to be a deciding factor in situations like this. I would say that she certainly deserves it for Ex Machina, though.

LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

52nd Annual SAG Life Achievement Award
CAROL BURNETT

enigmatic_alex44

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
These awards are a JOKE

How does the whole cast of the Big Bang Flop get nominated for their mediocre performances, and an actual good actor like Chris Evans is nowhere to be found?!

National Society of Film Critics are up. The PGA noms are announced Tuesday, and those are always extremely accurate to what will be nominated for BP.

Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”)
Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”)
Johnny Depp (“Black Mass”)
Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”)
Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”)

If this is really the best actor pool, then DiCaprio has this shit locked up.

I doubt Redmayne will win twice in a row, there's basically no heat around any of the other three (and frankly I don't think Cranston belongs in the race at all). I think there's enough of a conversation around how grueling The Revenant's production was, and whether this one will finally be the Oscar for Leo, that voters will give him the win.

Super pumped for the PGA. I tend to find their nominees more interesting than the Oscar's Best Picture lineup.

My PGA predictions:

The Big Short
Bridge of Spies
Carol
Inside Out
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Room
Spotlight
Star Wars: The Force Awakens

PGA tends to be more accepting of bigger blockbuster fare, but I doubt Inside Out makes the Oscar's Best Picture list. Star Wars is a definite possibility, but more of a long shot than other films.

The Oscar's will probably include one film not on the PGA list, as it happens every year. My guess and hope is Brooklyn.

Shame there isn't a guaranteed 10 nominees anymore. This year more than most feels like it needs it.

BAFTAs just got announced. Nomination list should be posted shortly, but just know that Fury Road picked up 7 nods, but not for Best Film nor Best Director. Also, Sly didn't get nominated for Best Sup. Actor. Thankfully, Mark Ruffalo got a deserving BSA nod for Spotlight

To be fair, Creed hasn't opened in the UK yet, so it might not have been eligible.

There will likely be a separate thread for the Oscar noms where all of the "snubbed" chatter will surface.

Oscar noms come out tomorrow at 8:30am Eastern / 5:30am Pacific.
