There's never been any real explanation for the development period, has there? No one has actually sat down and chronicled this game's development history to any real extent.

Awesome thread. Thanks for making it! I'd be interested to hear, how have everyone's gaming tastes changed during this period?

It's been a long time coming. If it was any other game that's been in development for so long, I'd be pessimistic. But I'm feeling good about this one.

Think about it, if you were born when this game was announced you're now old enough to drive, own a house, have a job, pay your taxes, rob a bank, escape to another country, live out a summer love in western europe, live a life of drugs and sex, and then die of cocaine overdose. Amazing.

bish gets all the credit :)
Nothing matched that leaked trailer with the Miller's Crossing theme. I must have watched that 10 times.

I think I canceled it last year.

quite a life for a nine year old

So cool seeing a scene from the first leaked trailer
https://youtu.be/xF3fED8EXl4?t=2m32s

being still in there in the latest builds
latest

you can realy see how the direction stayed the same and how graphically the title evolved from its early prototype stage to final shots.
It reminds me of Inside. I was listening to a podcast and one of the hosts had seen a super early version of what would become Inside in the months after Limbo's release. And then said that those same moments were still in the finished game

When a developer has a specific vision and achieves it exactly as they want to, it usually tends to be something special

Here's a version comparing the Project Trico footage to the 2009 trailer:

Holy shit, that's my life exactly!

... This has to be sarcasm. It just has to be. Otherwise I'm very worried about what people you know who can those things at 9 years old...

This is a great thread man. Shame it's been so overlooked.

This game's timeline was a frickin' rollercoaster ride. I hope Ueda makes it to the other side smelling of flowers when the game comes out.

I was saying in the other TLG thread that I hope this gets the kind of reception that Inside and Witness got. When you consider games like Inside, Rocket League, The Witness, Stardew Valley, and Owlboy, they all share a similar variable: a singular version slavishly worked on for years.

You can go back to the early days of Inside and The Witness, and see the exact same ideas and areas in the finished game, or see how Rocket League was basically just a refinement of the team's previous game

The Last Guardian falls in those same categories, in how you can see the same moments in the Project Trico footage in the 2016 gameplay and how it seems to be a refinement/evolution of the design ideals seen in Ico and SoTC

Much needed thread. I feel like there is no hype for this game here, I mean Ueda san appeared in an interview with Keighley yesterday and a new trailer was released but I don't see anyone hyped for it. Man I really hope this game succeedes, It 's been a long journey. Day 1!
