All Nations Except U.S. Agree on Climate Accord at G-20

Officials at the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg say world leaders have agreed on a final statement emphasizing a commitment to fight climate change—with the exception of the U.S. The final communique from the summit includes a commitment from 19 nations to combat climate change but offers an additional paragraph that “took note” of Washington’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement restricting carbon emissions. President Trump announced his decision to pull out of the accord last month, a move that was heavily criticized by many European leaders. European officials said Saturday that aides were up until 2 a.m. working on the document, but the U.S. was pushing for a reference to fossil fuels that ran into objections. “The outcome is good. We have a communique. There is one issue left, which is on climate, but I am hopeful we can find a compromise,” one EU official told Reuters.

A lot of US voters did want this one though. Trumps position on climate change has always been clear. This is representing the america that cares enough to vote. He needs to do this to stay true to that base as there is zero incentive not to

Well, we already knew that Trump was going to be literally the only world leader who believed climate change to be fake back in November. This doesn't really come as much of a shock.

It was once believed a President of any country has to do what is best for the whole country. And Trump could flipflop like always, his base would eat it up.

I miss the times where the consumer didn't have the inherent demand for news to be shocking or surprising.

Bit from The Guardian: G20 leaders' statement on climate change highlights rift with US
World leaders have made clear the US's isolated stance on climate change, with 19 of the G20 countries affirming their commitment to the ”irreversible" Paris climate agreement.

After lengthy negotiations that stretched well into Saturday, the final G20 joint statement notes Donald Trump's withdrawal from the Paris deal while stating that the world's other major economies all still support the international effort to slow dangerous global warming.

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, said on Saturday she ”deplored" the US exit from the agreement and added she did not share the view of Theresa May, the British prime minister, that Washington could decide to rejoin the pact.

”I think it's very clear that we could not reach consensus, but the differences were not papered over, they were clearly stated," Merkel told reporters at the end of the two-day meeting. ”It's absolutely clear it is not a common position."

The communique reads: ”We take note of the decision of the United States of America to withdraw from the Paris agreement," adding: ”The leaders of the other G20 members state that the Paris agreement is irreversible" and ”we reaffirm our strong commitment to the Paris agreement".

The US did successfully manage to insert text referencing fossil fuels which read: ”The United States of America states it will endeavour to work closely with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently."

World leaders meeting in Hamburg managed to agree almost every aspect of the statement, including the potentially contentious issue of trade, but the final text was held up by the US's contrarian approach to climate change.
Good job, America.

If America votes to shoot itself in the foot, that doesn't mean that the government should actually do it when it becomes clear it is a stupid idea.

At least we got states pushing commitment. As they said all of the major world economies are. It's good business to back climate change.

If you don't you're a fool.

“The United States of America states it will endeavour to work closely with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently.”

this is bad

we should not be pushing anyone to use fossil fuels

It's comical seeing the "educated" Trump voters try to defend getting out of the Climate deal, it's actually kinda pathetic.

“The United States of America states it will endeavour to work closely with other countries to help them access and use fossil fuels more cleanly and efficiently.”

Lol.

Sincerely, Fuck off whoever pushed to have that added in.
