Why was there not this much attention when poor Mitchell an-heroed after having his iPod stolen? I guess only attractive girls who off themselves deserve attention.

Wait, wouldn't the police be able to ask facebook to see the private messages now that a crime is involved? Some actual proof would be better than mob justice.

You would think that with known child pornoraphy sites still existing, the FBI would have already shut them down. Unless they use them as a sting operation, but even that is bad for the victims.

They could name any one of you a pedophile and the next day the internet vigilante mob is going to at your door. No idea how this is a good thing. The system might be flawed, but it's preferable to the kind of internet justice they're trying to mete out.

I agree with this, let the justice system do its job.

The fact they have info this guy frequents child porn sites, says that even if they are wrong, bringing it to light was still the right thing to do.

Did you even read the Huffpost article?

"The man who Anonymous identified as Todd's bully appeared in court on Monday on charges of sexual assault and sexual interference with a minor, unrelated to Todd'

And they got his name off a pedo site, from an account which he admits to owning - he just said he mysteriously "got it off someone else" when it was abandoned (yeah right). He is a pedophile. It's bullying that's the distinctive factor here..

You're seriously asking how 4Chan knows about creepy sites?

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!

Dresden's point still stands regardless of the topic of this thread. He's right.

This kind of black mail is becoming common place for pedo's. ArsTechnica has been very good at covering this kind of thing. The guys will some how coarse young girls into showing themselves nude on webcam, then blackmail them for more later down the road. If anon really has the right guy, fuck him and let justice be served.

Even if the guy isn't the blackmailer of Todd, he is a pedophile and deserves nothing but the worst in life.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
I'd bet on Anonymous being correct.

If you're tracking down a guy that is a pedophile, pedophile websites are a good place to start.

Sort of why I wish we'd stop using the word "bully" to describe things like this. At the very least, call it harassment. Bullying has such childish connotations, like the kid who steals your lunch money, not the grown man who drives you to suicide.

Your right, it would be thought of as being a a much more serious issue if it was referred to as online Harassment or maybe online Stalking.

Maybe there should be a some kind like a Internet license for certain people.

It's probably because it's a relatively new thing so most people are still pretty careless regarding the internet and personal information. There's not nearly enough education regarding it.

About what Anonymous did here, they're probably right and I like the idea of them exposing criminals but I echo the sentiments that they should have gave the evidence only to the authorities.

They were right here, but what happens when they get the wrong person?

I know how, because they frequent them on a regular basis and half the people going after this guy are probably actual pedophiles themselves. Fuck 4chan. I'll be cheering on the courts as they convict this guy, not a bunch of internet scum pretending they accomplished something.

Speaking of Anon, did they ever attack MS-13 like they said they would?

Now that's something that I would have been behind 100%. Can't blame them if they got cold feet in the end though.

Hacking psn isn't something I'd consider a good deed, unless your one of those people. They've done something else as well these people aren't good guys.
Basically yeah, they're a bunch of arrogant, self-promoting scumbags. I can't believe people are actually defending these cretins.

I still can't believe so many people defended the Sony attack as something that was actually good.

Anonymous belong in prison cells.

From what I understand they're an incredibly flexible 'organization' that doesn't have any set members or any realy structure at all, so the guys who did this are probably not the same guys who hacked PSN.

Not going to defend them though, on both accounts. The PSN thing was especially one of the most mindboggingly stupid instances of internet 'vigilantism' and that's saying something.

I suspect most of your hate for 4chan comes from ignorance, like most of the hate it gets.

iirc, the cartels supposedly captured a mexican anon member and essentially said "if you try we will kill all of you". Not sure what happened to the kidnapped person.

The thing is anonymous is... Not one working organization, it's anyone who decides they want to be part of it and just use the anonymous name. Not that I agree with them revealing names of what could just be a random dude either, but it's very damn possible none of the people doing it had anything to do with hacking PSN.

The girl was 13 or younger and being "wooed" by an older man, kids do stupid shit but there is no reason she needed to be tortured like this

They shouldn't have posted it online - they should have provided their evidence to the authorities and let them handle it.

Now, regardless of whether or not this man is -actually- guilty, him and everyone with a similar name nearby will have their lives fucked with, if not endangered by 'Anonymous' (Are they a group? Is it just anyone who wants to wear a mask? I really don't know and I kind of don't care) desire to step into the limelight.

Yeah. This is what they do. They don't seem to be that interested in justice. They seem more preoccupied with glorifying themselves.

In this case the girl is the 'child pornographer'. Also, there is no reason to think this guy had anything to do with her exposing herself on her webcam. He is just the one that ruined her life and blackmailed her. This is (or was) actually a really common thing. The way it works is you have sites like stickam, tinychat, etc. where one person is on camera doing a 'show' and then you have like 500 people in a chatroom telling them to get naked. Once they do, half of those viewers record it and release it on the internet. Then people download the video and start playing internet detective to find their facebook, flickr, etc. and blackmail them for more. Her tormentor was part of the last group which doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the first group.

Good if they got the right guy, but still an awful thing to be doing. If you have proof of someone committing a crime, turn it over to the authorities. Anonymous once again doing everything the wrong way.

They really couldn't, there'd be as much incentive to out a shadey motive from the accuser as there would be to verify the accusers claim. "Anon is not your personal army" as the saying goes. People try to use anon to settle personal grudges on a daily basis, it never actually happens. anon is jaded unless there's a hook to grab peoples attention.

oh is that all?

/sarcasm

We don't know if this specific person is that bastard, hopefully evidence will come to light. But if he is, he deserves the cosmic payback

I'm not defending him, I'm just saying there are almost certainly many people involved in this affair and not just one guy (who quite possibly had nothing to do with the original video). This type of thing is really, really common in some corners of the internet.
