Groups like the Family Research Council (FRC), the Heritage Foundation, and the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) have all laid out plans and expectations this week about how they envision the next four years. Their ideas are largely centered around a massive expansion of “religious liberty” — i.e. permission to openly discriminate against LGBT people.

At a press conference Wednesday, FRC’s Tony Perkins called Trump’s election “a repudiation of the Obama years and a rejection of the anti-evangelical movement.” He reiterated that Trump openly supported the Republican Party’s platform, which has been called the most anti-LGBT political platform ever — in part because Perkins helped write it.

In an email release, NOM President Brian Brown called the election “a bright and exciting time for NOM.” The organization has been largely irrelevant since losing its fight against same-sex marriage over a year ago and widely mocked for its incessant and desperate fundraising requests. Now, Brown proclaimed, “our voice and our views matter to the incoming administration.”

Here are a few of the things they’re excited to work with the Trump White House to do:

Appoint Supreme Court justices who will reverse marriage equality and take other anti-LGBT positions, which Trump promised back in January he would do.

Rescind all of President Obama’s executive actions protecting LGBT people, including nondiscrimination protections for federal contractors and all of the guidance protecting transgender workers and students under federal law, which Vice President-elect Mike Pence promised a month ago the Trump administration would do.

Pass the so-called Civil Rights Uniformity Act, which would ensure that no federal law offering protections on the basis of “sex” protects transgender people from discrimination.

Pass the so-called First Amendment Defense Act, a bill that would extend a nationwide license to businesses to deny service to same-sex couples, which Trump said back in September he’d sign.

Codify the Russell Amendment, which would further allow for any federal contractor or recipient of federal funding to discriminate against LGBT people.

Resume U.S. aid to countries that openly oppress their LGBT citizens.

“Repeal and replace” Obamacare, including its protections for transgender people and women to access appropriate care.

We. Are. So. Fucked.

So hateful, they literally just want to cause pain for others, that is their only purpose.

How can someone be so evil?

Honestly these people are way worse than Trump. I don't see him catering to the hardcore religious groups though. It's really down to how much power Pence has in the administration.

Drumpf is such a socially progressive pro-LGBTQ guy though because he raised a flag

Right?

Right over his head! He obviously loves the LGBT crowd for this one instance. This is why everyone voted for him!

I love how republicans drool all over themselves for less government and freedom of people but then circle jerk each other on bills that shove their heads so far up the ass of everyone's personal life. How many terabytes of gay porn do you think these people have on their personal computers?

The thought of there being a "Anti-LGBT" organization is just downright baffling to me. Let these people just fucking live their lives for craps sake.

I can only hope Trump and Congress don't let Pence and his Anti-LGBT buddies have their way. Those motherfuckers just want to wade in the pool of blood shed shed by our LGBT brothers and sisters.

Oh but I forgot, I keep hearing there's no need to be worried about this administration according to some people. If these acts pass, it'll be open season on millions of innocent people.

Yea not going to unify and join hands with the kind of people who gleefully cannot wait to take away people's rights and make it legal to discriminate against them and mistreat them.

As a more conservative person I totally agree. It's irksome.

Trump said he would appoint Supreme Court Justices to overturn Roe v Wade. His potential cabinet choices include Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, and Sarah Palin. Fuck this nonsense trying to downplay Trump.

I really don't understand it either. Literally the only good thing that can possibly come from the next four years is America realizes how shitty it is to actually treat people this way when all this talk is followed up with action, and your country goes on for many decades specifically looking for presidential candidates who value humanitarian approaches and actually listen to scientists and experts.

Ideally the rest of the world also learns from this example. Ideally, France and Germany don't join the UK and US in this right wing cesspool next year so no-one else has to suffer.

Ditto, How much influence/power Pence gets will determine most of this agenda.

It makes no sense to me either, or that they feel that their freedoms are the ones being infringed upon because they can't discriminate against LGBTQ people. They have absolutely no concern for anyone but themselves.

I'm sure if Pence doesn't approve of the supreme court justice Trump picks it won't make it through the Senate.

It really shouldn't surprise you. This is the world we live in.

Come at me you evangelical fucks I'm still gonna keep being gay as shit.

(The only way I can feel even remotely sane and not stress over the safety of my friends or feel like dying is acting brazenly defiant, isn't life grand)

But USA LGBT have to talk to these people to make them see sense instead of hating them. Hating people like this gets us nowhere.

am I doing it right? /S

Considering how Trump has no idea what he's doing, you can bet your ass this is going to basically be a Pence presidency.

If there's one thing I'm learning in the fallout of this election, it's that there are a whole lot of people out there - progressives who voted Clinton even, who believe that just because they've never called a gay person a "fag" that they're not homophobic. Just because they've never raped a woman, they're not sexist. Just because they've never told a Muslim to go back to Pakistan, they're not racist.

But if they vote for someone who openly does all those things, they passively support it even if it was because "Hillary was corrupt".

GAF's Bob Woodward
Peter Thiel must be so proud.

Seriously, disgusting shit. People and the community need to ostracise those who would exploit allowances to discriminate, if the law will not.

This is just them trying to get some punches in on their way down on this issue.

Gay/lesbian/trans acceptance is going to continue to grow no matter what they do on a federal level. Many hiring policies at significant companies will still prioritize people from diverse backgrounds.

Even if this passes, all it will do is make it clearer which companies are actively bigoted, while making it unnecessarily hard for LGBTQ+ people to get jobs in places where they're outnumbered by bigots.

I deeply hate any of this garbage passing but all it's going to do is slow down progress, not stop it. Tick, tock.

Gay marriage is extremely popular. Passing anti-gay laws would be the quickest way to rile up the Democrats for a wave election. Republicans know this. There are gay Republicans. Most Republicans don't mind gay marriage. Many support it. It's not a major issue people voted Trump for.

I think they'll leave it alone at a federal law level, and mostly just let the courts slowly erode away at it, because doing so abstracts it away from the public so Congress can't be held as accountable. And the federal government will no longer push cases to the SC to protect gay rights for the states who pass terrible laws. But the SC isn't in the business of removing rights they previously granted. They just don't do that. It would be a tragedy in the institution to do so.

But unless Republicans get two new justices into the SCOTUS, there's no possibility of overturning Obergefell, right?

The ACLU is gonna fight them tooth and nail every step of the way.

Disgusting. This is what you voted for.

I don't even know what I can do to fight. I'll let everyone know that this heterosexual minority is behind you in every way I possibly can.
