Anyone have high blood pressure?

So I was in the doctors for something else (3 foot penis syndrome) and as a routine they took my BP.

It was 130/80 and basically said it was elevated with a risk of hypertension I, so have to return in a couple week. Someone had an at-home BP monitor so I've been doing it the last three days and it seems that it's my normal at the moment. Stuff:

I'm not obese, I guess I'm like 4/6lbs overweight currently
I'm just over 40
I don't drink alcohol generally
I don't eat lots of salt, my diet is pretty clean whole food with a lack of veg/fruit
I do eat red meat but average per week is low in grams
I exercise quite regularly and strenuously (1hr per day usually, mix of cardio and weights)
Not on any meds, don't want to be on any either

The only action I've taken is to cut out all diet soda and caffeine (from two days ago) to see if that has any affect over the next two weeks.

How concerned should I be here?

Seems like it's on the border of normal to high. So you should probably make changes now before it gets worse and more difficult to reverse.

I've got it too and it's hereditary in my case. Mine is pretty much controlled via medicine (water pill and beta blocker) but yours isn't that high. (Normal is 120/80) Admittedly mine is also better because I've dropped down in weight to about 145. (My highest was 180) Admittedly I don't want to go down the same path as my dad. (It was like he was daring life to do something about his bad habits. My habits aren't great but not as bad as my dad and life did a number on him.)

I actually have high BP when I'm in doctor's office - because I am extremely nervous, and afraid of needles. I just don't like being there.
So I bought a BP monitor at home, and have been monitoring every morning, around 10min after I wake up. Totally normal for 50yr old - and they saw my records and understood that I only get high BP when I'm in doctor's office.

If you are concerned, BP monitor purchase (not that expensive) is a good investment to keep track your BP.

Yeah. Hereditary thing in my family. We’ve all got it. I’ve been on a low dose of beta blockers for years. No trouble really. Don’t worry about it. You’re barely elevated.
Yep! I went to the hospital a few years ago after a panic attack thinking it was my heart and the doctors checked in with me after confirming it was stress. The big thing they asked was if I have a family history of heart attacks and I do not. My Dad was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension when he was my age. I went in and my blood sugar is fine, but my blood pressure is about where the OP is. They have medication that takes care of these things, but I am wanting to correct some of this as well. It’s just really hard losing weight.

I'm a PCP. For a hypothetical patient with your situation, absolutely not offering medical advice to you; but I wouldn't have that patient stress about it.

I would perhaps have them check their cholesterol levels and ask them to check for hidden salt in their diet. I do not start my patients with a 130/80 BP on meds. I would also make sure they do not smoke, and if they do, that they quit; also make sure they have a decent sleep schedule and don't have sleep apnea.

I don't but everyone else in my family does so I'm just waiting for it to be my turn. I have a BP monitor so I can check it every now and again.

I don't have high blood pressure, but I do have a high heart rate. It's like around 100 at rest. My Dr wanted me to do a Holter monitor test but I've been too lazy.

I think it's mostly a precautionary thing to make sure it doesn't get any higher than that. But considering they know ppl are more tense at the doctors, I'm surprised that pressure even raised an eyebrow

They just follow recommended guidelines and really don't even look at your particular circumstances when it comes to this stuff. Just keep doing what ur doing; eating well, exercise, sleep well, and mitigate stress and ur doing all you can do and more . I would only worry about it if your systolic is sustained >150

also avoid caffeine before going to doctors, in conjunction with white coat syndrome can raise your bp significant amt

Yes.

I nixed any chances of me joining the armed forces (not even the university cadets) on the spot.

Other than that, I only get mild pains if I push myself physically to the extreme. I do have a blood pressure cuff I take readings on every few days or if I feel unwell, just to make sure my blood pressure isn't stupidly high.

My doctor said I could take medication, but while it would lower my BP, that it wasn't worth it yet.

It shouldn't be a problem, at least until you're much older. It can be limiting for some things. Really though, just make sure you're aware of how your body is feeling, and check your BP every now and then.

Yep. Every time I open YouTube and see a shitload of "shorts" that I don't give a single fuck about.

Seriously though don't use video game forums as a way to judge your medical situation. Speak to a real medical specialist or as close as you can get to it. Even if you do not have the time or the money there are hotlines and proper medical forums in which these questions can be asked and answered with some degree of accuracy.

Yes 6 months ago my BP was 210/130. But now I am on BP medication and my average is not 125/70. I have reduced pumping function in my heart because of the high bp but the doc thinks we can fix it with medication. It is an expensive medication.

Deal with your BP issues.

I stopped coffee and started adding cardio to my training sessions a while back, and although I hate cardio I can confidently say that my blood pressure is perfect now.

.....I really fuckin miss coffee though.

Could really just be hereditary. A bud of mine is in way better shape than me but has way higher blood pressure, as it runs in his family. Mine if anything is chronically low, to the point I get light headed sometimes, but he can outrun and out lift me every day of the week.

Me to a t lol....mine is always elevated when im at the dr, and these dentists that now take it too before working on you, like wth is that about? I cant imagine anyone enjoys going to the dentist even for cleanings so i imagine that everyones there is elevated.

But yeah, i have an at home checker and tracked it daily for 2 weeks and it was fine. Showed my doc my numbers and he was happy with it.

Yeah, I've taken 5 mg of Lisinopril every day for like 10 years now - I'm 37. It's hereditary for me so I generally don't worry about it because there's nothing I can do.
