Battlefield 2042 has improved a lot since release

I've been a huge fan since Battlefield 2. When BF2042 was released i hardly even put 20-30 hours in it, it was really bad in every sense.I was actually really sad to see my favourite shooter got decimated like that..

Last time i played it was almost a year ago and yesterday i gave a new try. It feels so much better, overall gameplay, gunplay, hit reg, maps. . Its not as good as previous titles but its improved a lot.. Im so happy my favourite fps is back(at least worth playing now)..

Edit : Performance has also improved, im on i5 12400f,RTX 3060ti and i get around 100-110 fps on high settings on 1440p 144hz monitor..

It's been improved for awhile now, but right now is a great time to jump in.

Been enjoying it a lot recently. Also, the free week for PlayStation users is coming up from Dec. 16th to Dec. 23rd.

After this year there will be no more specialist. Later this season they are forcing each specialist into one of four classes with gadgets based on the classes. Classes also get a bonus for different weapon categories such as longer holding breathe on sniper rifles for Recon.

Could have been a huge hit especially if it would have launched on game pass as well
At a minimum they should have put it on GP in June, July or August (any somewhat significant time period before MW2). A couple free battle pass seasons for purchasers would have alleviated most complaints. And the game would have had a real chance in the sun.

Any game can be improved since launch. Launch woes still linger in people's minds. They've only themselves to blame and no free pr from players will help them out.

Sounds good.

Might be worth checking out again. Nice change from MW2.

As a person who's put in literally thousands of hours into the series since the original BF 1942, this franchise is dead to me.

I used to have fun knowing I'd be playing some BF online and having a blast with friends. Now if I gather the fortitude to even click on the "play" button on 2042, it feels
like a chore and I start questioning why I'm even attempting to put more time into it. It's not fun. It's not memorable. The maps suck. The performance is spotty, the UI is still atrocious,
it's just terrible. I mean EA/Dice have managed to rip the heart and soul out of the I.P.

I think it's about time EA took a look at giving another studio a crack at the next BF game. Perhaps that would break what I think is severe burnout from Dice. Something has to change.

I don't give a shit. They had their chance.

At least I got a physical edition and can sell this turd.

What are the remaining shortcomings?
Destruction is probably the biggest one, especially if you come from BFV. A lot less of it. Granted it makes more sense if you consider the 128 player count, but more would be nice.

Haven't stopped playing since launch (have about 160 hours on it) and it has improved a lot. For me the main problem was performance. 128 player games would tank performance on a 8600K. It's not happening anymore, I'm getting around 60-70 FPS. Medium settings (haven't tried to play with settings again but I think it will probably be OK if increased).

People that purchased the game, were disappointed and still chose not to play despite the improvements I think are missing out.

Also people that like this kind of game and are on gamepass should try it. Nothing to lose.

I understand choosing not to buy or dropping a bad game but choosing not to play because of some kind of resentment doesn't make sense to me, specially if the money is already spent.

That was an odd GP release date. Their older BF games came to GP faster yet 2042 with its bottom of the barrel online user base took a year to show up.

There must had some odd internal issue preventing it from coming sooner to EA Play.

Maybe it did so poorly, they were just trying to stretch out sales as long as possible before hitting sub plan.

It's in a much, much better place. Lots of positive changes in the right direction. It's serving as a fun, casual fall back for me anytime Warzone makes me rage quit haha.

I think it'll get even better too after they officially bring back classes in one of the next updates. They're basically walking back all the head scratching changes or omissions lol.

That said... I totally understand anyone that thinks it's too little, too late. But it does make me cautiously optimistic they'll come correct on the next one.

My guess is the same arrogance that lead to its launch state prevented them from reading the room (ie: MW2 barreling towards them).

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
I have a fun time with it, so it probably still is shit for battlefield fans, because I usually hate battlefield but enjoy this one.

I've been playing with bots, and honestly, I'm having a great time. Picked it up a little while back for £25. Maps are a bit tedious but them is the breaks. Looks lovely too.

Still play a few matches a day.

Maps still suck absolute ass but it has been fun seeing more people on.

If you play as a falck, Revive your fucking teammates! I'm tired of leading every round with roughly 30 revives and the closest person has ten.

Yeah it's ridiculous how little some people revive. Reviving is fast as hell too.

Then again the average player has the situational awareness of a fucking potato.

Yep, the game is quite fun now. It’s still one of the weaker entries in the series, but at the current price of $20 or whatever it is, it’s definitely worth it.

I'm screaming out for medic, medic distance shows like 4 meters and they continue running past to go do other shit.

Why even be medic in the first place 😑

Until then I'll just keep running around reviving and shooting everyone witb the syringe.

no free pr from players will help them out.
Pr from players has been shown, in the past, to impact a games overall player engagement significantly. Admittedly, this game has a steep hill to climb if it wants to reach the heights that it was originally projected to reach. In a nutshell, it's never wise to speak in absolutes.

I actually liked the larger maps more, they were more different from Call of Duty. I would have tried to solve walking simulator issue with more cover and more transport.

But sure they did some changes and not all of them are bad. It's not a bad game but it's not the best either.

I started playing thanks to the game pass release and I am enjoying it a lot.

I am even tempted to buy the battle pass.

Every improvement is marginal at best. There are still too few maps and their design is terrible, the specialist system sucks ass, the balance is whack, there aren't nearly enough weapons, there is no progression system to speak of.

It's just such a meagre experience and it's never getting better.

Did you play 128 player mode? It's more demanding than other mods.
Yeah i only play conquest. 64vs64 manifest, that new map in norway, that one with big cargo ship in middle etc. It goes around 100-120fps on 1440p with high settings dlss on quality

How does crossplay work on PC? I use mouse+keyboard, do i get matched with controller players on ps/xbox too?

Yes, you'll be matched with Series X/S and PS5 players. As far as I know there is no console only cross play except for PS4 with Xbox One.

Is it better? yes. Is it a good bf? i still would say no. I am playing it few times a week, but only because i have no other shooters to play.

I tried it again after your post. It looks like they've made some performance improvements Or maybe it's better because I updated the graphics card driver(because of Warzone 2) OR maybe some maps performs better. In conclusion, it performs better now.

Agreed.

I played a few nights ago and this is legit how this game should have launched, smooth, minimal issues and all we need is them original classes lol

I like the changes to the maps a lot and I like the new map they have out as well. I didn't have much doubts that DICE would continue support or patching it, merely surprised how quickly a lot of those updates, patches and fixes actually came, not just to the performance but the core concept of the game.

So with them having more plans for next year, who knows how this game will be received 5 or 6 years from now. I try not to jump down the whole "omGz tHis gAmEz iz (fill in the blank expletive)" as many a BF titles have launched in questionable states.

BF4 was literally unplayable to the point where I avoided it for an entire year while the sorted out what was going on, years later....that is one of my favorite BF titles of all time. So I simply can't judge a BF title on how I'll feel years from now, today... using that logic, I would have never known how great BF4 actually was if it just moved on before those patches and fixes or something.

So I don't know where this BF is going to sit among how I feel regarding the whole series, that strongly depends on how they continue this going into next year and beyond.

Isnt that kinda shitty for console players with controller to get matched with mouse players? I know Apex and COD get matched based if using mouse or controller
