American here, but we mostly lump y'all with Spain and forget you exist so a little bit of publicity couldn't hurt.

Gonna be honest, no idea if this is the sort of publicty we need haha Though I suppose we could lump it all together in a nice little package:

"Portugal: food, beaches, nature & butts!"

lol

As it is it doesn't look like they have enough butt or chest for their offense to really be viable. Instead of hitting their opponent with said body parts they're sorta just slamming their whole body into each other.

I'd say they need significantly more padding on both parts. Should make it easier. Gotta remember that anime characters have largely uncommon/unreal proportions.

They're hosting a mock tournament open to the public this September 24th, in Lisbon!

https://www.facebook.com/keijoPortugal/posts/1642007832496187

You can check the guidelines and rules in the link below. More details are to be revealed later:

https://www.facebook.com/keijoPortugal/posts/1641025809261056

General Description of the Activity

Keijo is a new modality practiced in the aquatic environment (pool, sea, river, lake, etc ...) where the participants meet on a floating platform, designated by "Land", this being able to have several sizes, formats or morphologies.
The encounter between two or more Keijo participants on top of a "Land" is called a "Race".

The purpose of Keijo is to push the opponent(s) out of the "Land" (the opponent falls into the water). Only certain areas of the body can be used: Buttocks, hip and chest.

Winning by being last person on top of the "Land". There are other disqualifying ways, those referred below or non-compliance with any pre-established rules.

The maneuvers used should be made with the intention of pushing and never hurt, grab or cripple the opponent.

During this event there will be an experimental hour, where all the interested parties (men and women) will be able to try out the protection equipment and will have the opportunity to go up the Land. This access to trial time will have limited access to a certain number of people. (Pre-registrations validated by the organization will be preferred)

Some updates!

The open public training sessions went pretty smoothly. You can check a video here:

https://www.facebook.com/keijoPortugal/videos/1673900299306940/

The mock tournament that was going to be organized was postponed, as they have gotten a sponsor that'll help them plan a more enjoyable experience.

https://www.facebook.com/keijoPortugal/posts/1685684194795217:0

Speaking of sponsor, they've now secured sponsorship with Haribo! Free candy will be distributed at the upcoming tournament. Entrance to the tournament itself will remain free as well.

  • 800+ years of History
  • Getting known for having women literally butting against each other
:v

I kinda prefer being known for this than being just "Ronaldoland" xD

I need to check this anime out. Seems ridiculous, over the top and dumb. Aka must be great.

And then go take a look at the actual competition!

Edit: God damnit! There's a tournament on Sunday and my mom is in town!

The tournament has been postponed in light of their sponsorship, from what I understand. I'm not 100% sure though, as I don't speak Portuguese.

Yup. From their facebook page (which also now translates, to the best of their ability, the posts into English):

This is going farther than I expected.

Quite surprised at them getting an international brand to put their reputation on the line and sponsor a butt fighting competition.

The ground seems to be their biggest opponent. They might want to look into a less bouncy surface for future events.

I think the main problem is that they are putting too much emphasis on hitting people with their backs/buts/hips. Humans really aren't built for moving backwards quickly on uneven terrain. It would probably work better if they did more chest/stomach action and treated it more as sumo without arms.

Needless to say, this does look pretty fun. Even if they don't make it big as a sport, if they get the logistics down I could definitely see it being something fun put up at Waterparks... kind of like the Surf-riders, but instead they would be Keijo Arenas

There's also the fact that most participants aren't actual athletes, so of course they'd have an harder time keeping their balance. The first chapter of the manga showed how tricky it is for novices actually.
