I agree, this is actually quite valid. Anytime you've got several pages on a heavily-trafficked forum (getting thousands and thousands of eyeballs on your product) you are doing something right. So what if it's a bit shameful and makes them look stupid/careless? They'll laugh all the way to the bank, and the average gamer still holds them in very high regard notwithstonding.
