To the best of my knowledge Cerny likes to embed himself in game development so he can appreciate issues with system hardware and what developers want/will want on the next machine. I doubt he is involved in the day to day stuff but he would want to be part of how studios can maximise the machine.

If you remove both Knack games and Mario Party wannabe Crash Bash that would be an impeccable resume starting with Crash Bandicoot. Holy shit.

he should be the next boss after jim ryan leaves next year

Nah, You really want him doing what he's best at.. pushing silicon to the limit. The last thing we need is Mark Cerny reporting to investors and scheduling zoom meetings.

On the other hand... he really is the one...

Cerny very arguably saved Playstation. I don't think most people outside the industry knew how many devs simply hated having to struggle with Ken's byzantine PS3 architecture. While a relative handful appreciated the challenge of coaxing performance out of it, most simply found it a needless headache.

Cerny sweeping in and basically saying "I hear you", and then actually following through with it in his whole engineering philosophy was a turnaround of epic proportions.

And here's the truth; you remove the bullshit layer and not only are devs happier, they are also more productive and effective. Something even a lay person can see in the quality of multiplat releases since PS4.

Technically Cerny Games was just the last 22 games since 1998 . . . I feel like Cerny would appreciate the accuracy.

Legend. I mean this guy was in the trenches at Atari, Sega, and PlayStation. Not many can say that.

Absolute legend.

He's a unicorn really.

A prodigy developed when he started, an excellent producer with outstanding technical understanding, brilliant at communicating with developers and now a platform architect that has all that bundled together. Can't think of anyone else in the same league.
