DQ has the potential to succeed in the west if Ninty and Squeenix worked together to advert them.

Fug, DQ would be a perfect filler between Pokemon gaps.

To be perfectly honest, DQ is pretty much anti-Western in its design. It's not melodramatic, it's not extremely flashy, and it puts gameplay and fun over style and "AAA" graphics. I'm not complaining about any of this, mind you, but it's always going to be a lot less popular over here.

Well, even then, the gameplay has been at times called "archaic" so really, there's a lot of reasons why it just hasn't gotten the reception overseas.
