Who wins the record-sale wars of the ’00s? The battle comes down to the Real Slim Shady, the Fab Four, and a perhaps less fab boy-band fivesome.

According to Nielsen SoundScan (via USA Today), Eminem garners the top overall prize for album sales over the last ten years with 32.2 million copies sold, despite having a five-year gap in studio albums between 2004’s Encore and this year’s Relapse.

The Beatles, however, come in a close second with 30 million, and earn the single-album ticket to ride; their greatest-hits compilation 1, released in 2000, sold 11.5 million, edging out ‘N Sync’s No Strings Attached from that same year by a mere 400,000. (The latter sold 2.4 million in its first seven days, still a SoundScan record.) Norah Jones’ 2002 debut Come Away With Me wins the bronze, taking third place with 10.5 million.

I actually see this as a good thing.

It's shows the Beatles longevity tops anyone's current popularity.

It also shows they are and were bigger than Michael Jackson.

Jus sayin.

This is just the United States, the rest of the world is still Michael land.

Pink Floyd, wha?

Aren't they among the most successful bands in rock history ? So it shouldn't be that big of suprise to see them on the list. Over 200 million albums sold iirc.

Kind of annoying how Americans don't feel they need to specify that this list is just for the U.S. Par for the course, I guess!

02 The Beatles 30,182,000

Wow. Didn't know country was that big. I guess it makes sense. All sounds the fucking same to me, though.

Christian pop music with hillbilly twang. What's not to love?

You know I half-thought I would see Taylor Swift on the top 10 there for a minute... :lol

Pretty surprised at Eminem, though. Had no idea he sold this well.

One of them. Beatles are on top, and I think it's Elvis after that, then MJ.

I've always heard Evils sold more than the Beatles. It doesn't seem like there's any concrete info to say which is on top. I just go with what I like best.

Well, for most of this decade, Michael Jackson was thought of as a freak in the US. His popularity was probably at a low point before he died. Next decade will decide it, but I still think the Beatles will sell more.

As far as the world-wide best-selling act, it goes down like this apparently (per Wikipedia--certified sales):

1. The Beatles: 230.1 million
2. Elvis Presley: 188.8 million
3. Michael Jackson: 146.1 million

Michael holds the record for best-selling album with "Thriller"...with the far and away sales of 110 million. 2nd place is AC/DC's "Back in Black" with 49 million.

I once though Eminem was a great artist, and he was with Slim Shady and Marshal Matthers LP, but that shit Relapse is the absolute worst. Stop doing this shitty foreign accents. Stop doing general rap about girls and cars and money. Just fliiping stop.

I recall that up until the turn of the decade, country was the second most popular genre after rock. But throughout the 2000's hip hop and RnB have overtaken it.

Keep in mind that probably 90% of those sales took place between June 25 2009 and now. Crazy.

Also, I expected Eminem at #1. Good shit, I fucking loved Eminem Show. Probably my favourite album of the decade tbh.
