And sometimes you have to realize that the "things" you get with competition aren't always good, such as the mess MS is in right now.But you have to realize you need competition to get things.

I shudder to think what PSN would look like if Live never existed.
Nope! Nothing wrong with wanting a company to fail if you believe they are a detrimental influence on your hobby. The Xbone initial reveal and policies have just shown gamers their true colors and how little they regard consumer rights.
Microsoft is a bad influence on the gaming industry and I'd love to see the Xbone fail.
LIVE was the greatest thing to happen to PSN, it lit a fire under Sony's ass find a way to compete and a improved online infrastructure and PS+ was born
MS failing would be devastating for this industry, it would take years for someone else to fill the void which would allow Sony maintain status quo
Isn't Steam a monopoly on PC?
Sony wasn't too bad with the PS2. Except for the arrogance that came as result of its domination at the launch of the ps3.
No, I'm pretty sure a Holiday launch is fine for the PS4. Nothing out of the ordinary with its path.
There are no big issues. Just minor crap that is part of the game.
It has shifted to gloom and doom.
wow I just saw that episode yesterday, incredible fitting
Suspected by morons, yes.Take the DRM stuff that Microsoft that seems to have lost them the hearts of a lot of core games, it's widely suspected that Sony was considering a similar scheme, but as a result of competition they saw an opportunity there to take a different approach as a point of distinction from their competitor. If it was just Sony do you think that maybe, possibly they may have gone in a different direction? Sony's historical record on DRM is not exactly spotless when you consider stuff like the rootkit fiasco. Would the #NoDRM campaign have been as successfu if gamers had no other option other than PC or Nintendo handhelds?
Oh god no. Far from it. Pc is the most competitive market there is when it comes to gaming.

literally a ton more different sites selling Dl codes or you can download from them directly and some, as GMG, even sell codes at sometimes a reduced price than Steam even if you have to use Steam for the code you bought.. So No Steam Does Not Have Monopoly.
They have the biggest chunk of the userbase thou. Understandable since they been in the game for so long and have been giving a good service and good price so far. A very easy DRM solution(SteamWorks, remember this, DRM free is still on Steam just that many chose to deploy Steams DRM solution called SteamWorks) that haven't really messed with the userbase.
So I say it again, NO Steam Does Not Have Monopoly.
So, haven't been in thread since last night.
We still doom and gloom for XBone OS? Or have new developments materialized?
I confused the twitters... I saw he saying "trololololo" for another thing.
Sorry my mistake.

Agreed.
I have no sympathy for the Microsoft position as it stands. They've created this bed.
They need to stop with the sidestepping of questions and just be honest about the current situation and what they are going to do to fix it.
I honestly think that would go quite a bit further in repairing their image. (Will they? I don't know, history would suggest they won't).
OffTopic:
Hey Schreier, I had a beef with you earlier(you probably didn't notice me in all the whubub) during the Kamitani episode where I thought you were THE 14 year old child.
Always believed when one is set to critique another you must start by setting the level of discussion and I found that you set it at a 14 year old boys as you accused Kamitani of doing and even argued that his response was correct by sending, imo, sexy burly dwarves to you. I since not visited Kotaku since I couldn't stomach the majority of the comments.
But I promised one thing, if I ever found out you weren't a 14 year old dillweed I would apologize in the same forum I talked ill of you, so here it is, me saying sorry.
I'm sorry. You aren't a bad bloke. I hope you can take at least this one wrongdoers apology to heart.
Dumbest thing I have ever heard here. Actually wanting a console to fail. THOUSANDS of jobs at stake, and a product that some people enjoy. Frankly I wouldn't play games any where near as much if Halo wasn't a thing.
If you don't want it don't buy it, but don't wish for it to fail. So stupid.
I bet you desperately wanted Steam to fail too?
Edit: If either Sony or MS were to fail that would leave the other with damn near a monopoly. That is the LAST thing we want.

That's a pretty weird take.
They're both trying to make good products that make lots of money.
There's a difference between 640p vs. 720p and 720p vs. 1080p. People made a big deal about the resolution and framerate differences then, if they're bigger now why isn't it a big deal?
The last 3 years have been rough. This launch software wise is clearly demonstrating the power of competition. MS clearly sat back and said "Well shit. Our software line up has been a little sparse since '10...Let's fix that.
Where as Sony who over the past 3 years have been lauded for their diverse software lineup have slipped this launch.
This stuff goes in cycles.
All this drama every day is becoming boring, I think at this point we all want the games to speak so that a discussion based on facts can happen.

Then again I'm a guy who both thinks that ms will try it again and that Sony were planning to do the drm as well before the backlash I think its known as being a "Cynical Asshole" as its technical term.
I like a good shitstorm as much as the next guy. Hell, I love one.
So even tho i'm pretty anti Microsoft at this point in my life, and would love to see them fail out of the gate, i just don't see it happening. Enough sources have confirmed there are some serious issues right now, but they still have a full month to deliver a day one patch that makes things stable. *Everything* might not be flawless on day 1 (or even week 1) but I'm sure it will work reasonably well. They are a giant mega corporation with a 10 year business plan for this thing. It will work. If there are problems in house right this second, you can bet *everyone* is dedicated to having it all ironed out by launch. Joke all you want about Microsoft coding, but virtually every PC on the planet runs on their stuff. They have good coders. They will fix whatever OS issues that are being reported.
Sony has announced 10 games out of 20 due to be released in the first year. Three are there at launch, another two following in the launch window. I don't see what the problem is. What is this obsession with launch? It's not like SCE released 6 games in one month in the past 3 years, and then decided to relax for the remaining 11 months. Releases are naturally spaced out.

Thanx for all the work you've done though.
Tomorrow can't come soon enough! lol

No the market will decide how it works. I am saying you don't WANT this to happen. For the sake of jobs and diversity you don't WANT it to happen.
For example: I'm not a fan of the current American government administration. I don't WANT it to fail because of the repercussions but that doesn't mean that voters won't decide that.
All I was saying from the beginning was that hoping for a console (or any product to fail) is stupid. Unless it is directly hurting you in someway there is no reason for you not to live and let live.
All XBO has done in it's current state is make PS4 look better in most regards. They are now forced to go on the offensive to try and win back every customer they lost by creating a more appealing product/game etc...Then Sony will do the same thing again, then Nintendo, then MS ETC.......

I wonder who he's quoting, or if he's pulling it out of his ass.
