Holy shit that sucks.

I can't imagine how that would feel...

For the surviving twin, probably literally like part of herself had died.

And of course our local FOX station knows. Took this photo from the broadcast just a few seconds ago.

That's disgusting.

That first picture is absolutely horrifying. Although some didn't make it, at least a good portion of them will hopefully.

My co-worker knew the FedEx driver... he went to high school with her and her husband. He had a wife and two little girls. :(

You know some people were at home today going, "Where the fuck is my FedEx delivery? Fucking assholes."

Sometimes I think about this kind of thing when my deliveries are delayed. :( Keeps things in perspective.

That's what I was thinking the whole time I was watching Castaway.

You would be amazed at how people complain about packages not getting places due to weather that would put the drivers at severe risk.

I work in the shipping industry.

LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
Witnesses who were in the car first hit by the FedEx truck say it was already on fire before hitting bus:

ORLAND, Calif. -- Two witnesses said Friday that a FedEx truck was on fire before it hit a tour bus filled with high school students in Northern California, killing 10.

Bonnie and Joe Duran, whose car was hit by the big rig before it collided with the bus Thursday on Interstate 5 in Orland, told several TV stations that they saw flames coming from the truck as it crossed the center median.

“I was heading along the outside lane. And I looked over and saw the FedEx truck coming right for me and it was on fire already,” Bonnie Duran told KCBS radio.

Duran told KTLA-TV that when the truck hit the bus, there were a series of explosions.

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
Do those buses have emergency measures so you can pop them out real quick so people can escape?

Normally there are specific windows designated for fire escape and hammers to break windows.

Anyways, I saw this article yesterday and I don't understand why they titled it the way they did, regardless of what kind of income their family is of this is terrible.

I was going to drive to WalMart later today. Not sure I can do it now.

I mean, obviously any death is tragic, and I'm not meaning to make light of this in any way.

It's just annoying how in a thread about a flight crashing, we have people going "Man, I was supposed to be flying next week. I'm nervous now/going to cancel my flight" and "This is why I avoid airplanes" and such. While realistically stuff like this happens fairly often, and even moreso when talking about regular-size cars. Yet, we don't have people filling these threads with posts like that.

Perhaps it is because we are used to the status quo of car accidents being an inevitability, something that is common and therefore acceptable. Whereas when a plane crashes, it's more unheard of, where usually tens if not hundreds die, which creates an uncertainty in the face of a usually certain form of travel.

Horrible. And Wtf @ the title. Does low income define who they are and were as people? Why does that need to be pointed out in the title?

Not just low-income, but:

motivated students, destined to become the first in their families to go to college

Clearly all of that makes it that much worse.

Yeah, it's a pretty badly-written article.

I laughed at this and then felt bad. This would be me.

my friend steven (interviewed in the op) survived this and i'm so incredibly grateful that he made it out, but really just puts things into perspective, so sorry for the families that have lost their loved ones through this, just a truly awful situation :c also what is up with those pictures? those photographers should be fired, they were fully aware that those signs were in view, they couldve at least been photoshopped out of the picture if they really needed to frame it that way, just wtf

I know exactly where this happened, grew up 15 miles up I-5 (Corning, CA for anyone who knows the area).

There's a Casino (Native American) not far from where this happened, which is what the sign is for (and yes, the photographer did a terrible job for not checking the shot, state of the news in America today).

My condolences go out to everyone that was involved in this terrible accident.

What does their income level have to do with the car accident though?

I'm really surprised it took this long for someone to directly comment on how almost distasteful that part of the story is. Not even children, but people, rich or poor, dying in an accident is always tragic and heartbreaking.

Are you FUCKING kidding me with this. What kind of reporting is this, what a load of absolute bull shit. Piece of shit camera men and reporters here, man.

What a horrible accident, so much senseless death all due to chance. Fuck man what a terrible waste of life... it's scary because events like this make you understand that no matter how alert you are on the road, you can be totally obliterated by happenstance...

I went to high school with the Fed Ex driver. I vaguely remember him, but he seemed like a nice guy. I think a lot of my friends knew him since my facebook timeline is blowing up with condolences for him and his family.

Fuck.

I can't imagine how the friends and families of the deceased must feel right now, especially families who have been placing such pride and hopes in their kids' first venture into university.

Hope the wounded make as swift and full recoveries as possible.

You'd think someone would have the sense to look at this photo and decide it would be sensible to not publish this one? At least have had it cropped or something. I mean, I know that horrifically ironic sign is kind of there and dominating, but still...

Against a black background, it would have taken a couple of minutes to remove it.

Felt really awful while reading the article. Whoever posted the signboard pic.... I hate you. I'm going to hell for laughing. :(

I got an email from my school about it:

I got that email too. So tragic. A few days ago there was a thread on here about car crashes. Saw some pretty messed up stuff. I was driving more safe than usual the next day, which incidentally was the same day this happened. You just never know when shit like this is going to happen. R.I.P. to the poor folks who died that day.

...also what is up with those pictures? those photographers should be fired, they were fully aware that those signs were in view, they couldve at least been photoshopped out of the picture if they really needed to frame it that way, just wtf
You get fired if you photoshop stuff out of editorial photos.

In the most recent airline thread, though, we had people convincing us that stuff like that could never happen to them "when they are in control" driving, since they would be able to avoid "anything."

Yeah, unfortunately, on the road all it takes is one random happening like that. Which, unfortunately, happens far too often, often with nothing at all that can be done about it.

It's because we accept it.
