Looked great. I like this more then anything I've seen from Versus.
It sucks to think it'll be years before we probably see anything come from this.
Square's PS2 and PS3 tech demos gave some good ideas where graphics were headed, but this looks like it's shooting way over what's possible, both technically and financially.
Damn, that tech demo looked nice, and I would love to play a FF in that universe.
Never gonna happen is it?
The tech demo looks amazing, I actually find it much more impressive than Epic's UE4 demo. But with Square Enix bitching so much about HD towns this gen, I don't see how they can make a FF with these kind of details throughout the entire game.
I'm still not convinced games will look like this next gen. I just don't think (thanks to the success of the Wii) that Sony or Microsoft will put the necessary horsepower into their machines. But I would love to eat crow on this.
The Wii was a one time thing. Nintendo themselves cannot and will not replicate the success of the Wii.
Sony and MS know this.
Didn't realize you were psychic.
What I think you meant was "it's likely that the success of the Wii was one-time". Anything can happen in this industry so I believe stuff when I see it.
I think I prefer Versus setting etc by a fairly large margin, but I like what I am seeing here...Wouldnt have minded them doing a switch though...versus with this kind of tech next gen and this concept this gen
Has a better quality version of the video been released yet?
why is this behind closed door.....
Guarantee this is PS4 launch tech next year
Not a chance of being a launch title (this is Square-Enix), but they might have a real time demo at next years E3
While the part about the models is mostly true those higher res models aren't rigged and animated at that high level of detail. Also particle effects, world geometry, higher quality sounds and textures are created at a single level. What will eventually save some time is having a large set of highly detailed rigs for humans and other common elements. However that will just make putting more unique and fantasy elements in be more expensive as there is no template to go off of.Everyone keeps saying that the cost would go up, that creating the assets would be too much work, but there's something I don't quite understand. I thought everyone made super high res models and then transferred all the details to a low res version via normal maps and stuff like that. If they're going to need more detailed assets then the in game version just wouldn't be that low res, right? I mean, the creating process would still be the same, they would still make the highly detailed models they're creating right now. How would that raise the costs and working time?
Youtube's quality isn't very good, even at 1080p.there's a 1080p direct feed youtube version in the op.

I was specifically told this...
I'll check the tape when I get home. I don't think so though.Kagari, is there any chance that during that Q/A you got some more info on the lighting they used for the demo. First time they showed engine last year I think they used method with fast GI baking via ray-bundles, is it still the same or now they're using some dynamic solution or hybrid solution now?

I would prefer an expanded remake of VIII over VII.the screenies make me want a FF8 Remake
so now we get to see Versus gameplay again using this tech.
What did you expect from a tech demo?S-E does something pretty. /yawn. Doesn't do a lick to address any of the concerns I have with this company's AAA products these days.
Wow FF8 Cutscreens in realtime but better fantastic work Square
Now bring me a game like this woman and day 1

Uh dude those are beyond FF8 CGI. I'd say the texture work is even better than Yuna's CGI from FFX.
This is close enough to FF: Advent Children that I wonder if Square could use its assets for a FFVII remake using the luminous engine.

If they thought it would take too long to do it on PS3, it's not going to get any easier on PS4. It's not like the movie's assets can just be copy-pasted into a game, aside from maybe the character models.
The backgrounds would involve a lot of cheating.
