Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward |OT| The Midas Touch

uh oh......
that doesn't mean they can't switch up stuff, it just means progression patch and catchup patch roughly every 3 months.

they can still switch up how progression is actually handled. i also don't think we're going to jump that much in gear like we did from 2.0 to now. started 3.0 at roughly 120 average for most people going into it, but you can enter at 110 with the soldiery stuff the MSQ now gives you and the people who've been playing since 3.2 are now sitting at 230-240. we've jumped up more than 100 item levels since 2.0 already and there's still one more progression patch which will probably jump us up nearly 100 item level from where we started heavensward end-game. (with the law gear being 170 unupgraded)

He's being sarcastic. Don't know why he's posting in here now, but Unknown Soldier has been hating on this game since Blade and Soul came out.

I don't have a strong opinion on relics since I don't do them, but the method of obtainment to a lot of people seems unenjoyable because everyone opts for methods of 'efficiency'. In this case, maybe getting the relic faster isn't necessarily the most enjoyable way of going about it.

Yeah, I don't focus hard on gearing up and still manage to get by. How i'm still stuck with an i200 relic baffles me, the Unidentifiable items shouldn't cost as much as they do now that this step is irrelevant. I hope 3.38 lowers those too and not just the crafted portion, I still have another 20 or so Unidentifiable items to go

Only the final line of that post is sarcastic. The rest of the post is more or less explanatory in nature and it's meant to be taken at face value. Also I can post wherever I want, why don't you just add me to your Ignore List if you can't stand my existence so much.

It doesn't feel fun doing the same thing hundreds of times :/
I honestly expected relic to be catch-up and not a grind-fest, and i'm pretty bummed that it's basically the grinding equivalent of raiding

Relic is not catch-up though. Catch-up happens when they add the item you need to upgrade to Savage-class gear to the 24-man thing, which is currently Weeping City.

You are correct that Relic is the grinding version of raiding. It's meant to give people who don't raid something to grind for to get roughly the same gear as raiding at cutting edge gear level. That's why the catch-up item isn't added to the 24-man until they are about to release the new raid tier.

And what I said is factually correct, Relic is not generally nerfed because it's meant to give people something to do who would otherwise unsub since they don't raid and it serves as a mechanic to force players to repeat old content so new players who are leveling or existing players leveling alt jobs or alt characters can have someone queuing into the instance they need.

It's pretty much a given that they'll nerf the number of unidentified items required in 3.38. They're making the final items easier to get and there's nothing else left to nerf as the crafted items are very easy to make right now.

I hope they nerf the crafting items requirement. Spent the last few weeks collecting the unidentified items and only need about 10 more. Haven't gotten any of the crafted stuff yet.

More than they have already? Sands seem more common since the last patch and the recipes are no longer specialist only.

Skill bloat is a problem and they could easily fix it by adding in more traits and passives instead of five skills for the next 10 levels in 4.0

Or like Unknown said - skill trees and "Specializations" as it were. Dump the class system, make everything only Jobs and then make different specializations within each job to create more variety within the system as it is. 4.0 and dropping ps3 might be their first best chance to try this out.

While some sort of skill tree system would be interesting, because I sure would like to customize things even if it's only a handful of abilities, it still feels a bit too optimistic. I feel like what we'll actually get is something lackluster.

Maybe it's just the pessimist in me but I don't have much confidence that they are willing to make large changes to the classes/jobs, even in an expansion where that sort of thing would be expected in other MMOs.

6 runs of expert dungeons and still no full panegyrist set. I only have half of the set.

With any luck you won't have to spend a week of straight grinding to get everything.

I only needed 15 more medals for my last one but I failed to get all the Yokai weapons in the 5 days I had back. My life is a lie.
Guess you'll have to resub. Oh well~

Relic is there to keep people who have nothing to do but want to keep playing subbed. That's the functional reason why it always remains a huge grind when everything around it is nerfed.

There is a side benefit to Relic's existence where the Relic grinders are being forced to queue for instances they wouldn't otherwise bother with, which helps players who are leveling get them done. This has the unfortunate effect of ruining the experience for the leveling players because they get thrown in with people who are crazy overgeared skipping all cutscenes, locking them out of boss fights, and just slaughtering everything in seconds, but at least they get it done which is better than not getting it done.

Relic is a shining example of the great game design in FFXIV.
I mean this was the case for 2.0 sure, but 3.0 really hasn't been as insulting, I don't believe. Your anecdote is for like Prae and Castrum which I haven't run aside from willingly in a long ass time. There's nowhere else in the game full stop where this happens. But uh. Keep beating that drum?

I do!

What I mentioned isn't really what I'd consider a large change to jobs. You can make new soulstones for subclasses and treat it as its own job with a few small changes to them. An expansion is the best time to try and make larger changes to how the game operates in general rather than in a smaller patch.

Also to the person who didn't have Doom Spike on their bars because of too many skills - remove Feint and Keen Flurry before you remove one of your three AoE skills. Just gotta make better choices of what is good to keep in arm's reach and what is not.

All right, tired of Comcast's shenanigans, gonna have to go suck it up with Century Link

Can you try changing your DNS to google's DNS servers and/or OpenDNS and see if that helps? I just responded to a thread on reddit about comcast and recommended the same thing, but the OP hasn't responded and after another reply I'm not sure whether it would help.

I mean, it's better, but it's still not particularly great. Soul Without Life wasn't any more fun than it's 2.0 counterpart. Coming into Its Own had the right idea, but the implementation was poor. Can't speak for A Dream Fulfilled because I stopped playing before hitting it.

The original relic (that is, not the Zodiac, but what was in at ARR Launch) is still the best way to do it. Make the players tackle some of the hardest content in the game at that moment. That's similar (if way faster) to how FFXI did it too with forcing players into Dynamis and all.

So Diadem actually wasnt forgotten.
Nope, people just hated what it was. They're dumping the endless brain dead mob farming, adding clear goals, and are looking into doing an area wide raid thing where each group has to complete different objectives.

Mixed queues will also be ending, 3.4 is supposed to let you queue up for a gathering party so battle parties stop getting people who want to gather.

[*]4.0 will use the same patch cycle they've been using.

This pretty much ends my time with this game. Sorry but the way the game works now is tired. I guarantee you they won't change a damn thing with 4.0 this game is currently sitting in second to WOW in terms of subscription based games and they have proven they're more than comfortable sitting there since they can never catch WOW. They make enough money the way the game runs now so they won't change anything.

[*]Doesnt sound like Feast was as successful as they wanted it to be. They feel like people were afraid to try it cause of the pressure in 4v4 ranked. New unranked training modes in 3.4 (duel and custom match) and spectator mode.[/B]

Most people gave up on feast because of the sheer amount of cheaters and boosters.

And the toxicity. Damn is the feast toxic.

On the subject of new race ideas, they could add something like monkey people. Naturally with inspiration taken from Sun Wukong since it seems everything monkey related in modern fiction comes from exposure to him and Journey to the West.

A class that uses a long staff would be cool too, with some martial arts moves and spiritual stuff mixed in.

There's probably a less than zero percent chance of any of this occurring though.

.....Sounds so horrible to continue the same patch cycle. I'll quit sooner than later and I don't even care... because I really need to move past this game and give myself an extended break when FFXV comes out anyway. The fun factor of FFXIV is dying, imo. I've seen everything this game has to offer already and the most thing I enjoy about it is playing with friends and doing extreme content. People probably wont even be around so why should I? /shrug it is just getting to be such a stale game with no progression other than waiting for a5s to reset and capping lore. I tried subbing for a static, which was my friend’s, and I regret it so much. People were impatient and we never got past swindler. A few slackers never even showed up for the raids... etc. There is no use finding a static without people I know in it. They disband quickly and at a good rate. I can try to get people together that I know but that won't even work either because they'd be impatient to learn the fight and just fool around dramatically xD. Man, I think there is just a tiny bit of XIV that died for me.... I enjoyed this game so much but now man.... sheesh.... not as much as before... or even when I started. My former fc has been relatively dead friend wise/ People are busy, and there is just nothing to do at times. I think I'll do the right thing and put this game away for a few months again.

Zodiark fight, when? lol

I'm afraid of jumping back in now when people are quitting. But I think I at least might want to complete the ARR story arc and get my character to lvl 50. And of course get all of the Yokai stuff.

Poor working attitude on the part of people you tried to raid with is not the fault of the game.

The patch rotation works, they simply need to rethink value of content and rewards, it was significantly better in ARR and quite messy in HW. I'm honestly not sure what else people expect them to do, develop an entirely different game? They're already trying out different types of content and while not everything works at least you can't blame them for not trying?

A certain asshole on a different message board brought up a good point. When WoW runs out of content, people unsub until the next time. When XIV runs out of content people wonder why a single game can't keep their attention every day for three plus years. Eh.

There's nothing wrong with the patch cycle per se. That just means we'll get new stuff every three and a half months, not that we'll get the exact same type of content we do now.

I'm completely fine with the cycle. The main problem with 3.0 was the long wait for the next major patch, not the formula. It got a lot better in the later patches. Hopefully 4.1 will have a quick turnaround.

Agreed. The long wait between 2.5 and 3.0 then 3.1 killed a lot of good will and even though delays happen, I'm sure they've learned their lesson.

The way I understand patch cycle being the same is they'll keep their 3.5 months update cycle with smaller updates in between and that's usually something people praise about this game. It's realistic for their development capabilities. It doesn't necessarily mean the content is going to have the exact same structure.

Patch cycle is fine so long as the patches aren't delayed too badly, it's just the content in the patches that needs some tuning (aka fixing that raiding issue). I don't envy the team with that problem.

Where do I find the Poor-heeled Youth? He is supposed to be at X: 9.2 Y: 9.1 but I don't know how to read that, and I am in Gridania.

He is in uldah.

Look at your compass
The coordinates underneath it are your current position.

On the map there are also coordinates that change when you move the marker.

I just got my airship pass, finally!!! And is travelling to Limsa Lominsa apparently. There's so much story and cutscenes now, I'm LOVING it.

I have high hopes for 4.0, although I joined at the tail end of 2.55 and reached lvl 60 right before 3.1, so I never experienced the 2.0-2.55 cycle. I basically did all of the mandatory content, and went straight to HW, so HW end-game is literally all I know. Maybe people were disappointed from HW's "decline in quality" because they had been though ARR end-game, but for me it seems like my expectations will be set lower if HW si really worse quality than ARR.

That said, I am still disappointed with how barebones gear is. Without glamour there would be alot less illusion of choice, you'd see everyone wearing the same statistically better gear instead of a progression system where you choose the gear that would fit you the most. And even further into this, the game was not built with horizontal progression in mind, it would require a major overhaul on rebalancing every enemy, boss, encounter, to work with a new horizontal progression system in mind. I don't have too much hope for this kind of thing but i do believe we can still get at least SOME form of choice over "increase main stat" gear.

I would love to recreate jobs so that end-game gear has several variants and that those sets give skill bonuses to get the same job done but in different ways. Set skills could change rotations based on the new effects of moves, or maybe go even further, add in specs and skill trees too so that there isn't just one way to play a job anymore. With all of this, there could be several very diverse ways that you can mix and match skills with and still be as efficient as anyone else if you know how to use and control those skills

This is all pretty much a pipe dream though.

Biggest issue with 3.0 was its first patch after launch was terrible and slow and then the content within was pretty trashy. If they can smooth that out for 4.0 it'll be fine. i think the patch timings are fine, personally. Allows me to get done what I need to do and take it easy towards the latter half of the patches to play other stuff.

I can't remember, is it possible to change ones name for a fee?

Also, I levelled up with my old character from 15 > 17 and got access to the gold saucer, airship pass, Yokai event so I'm pretty happy about my progress today.

Tomorrow I'll try catch one or multiple Yokai as it's a limited event and progress a bit further with the main quests.

The story is actually getting a bit interesting now. Love the cutscenes and lore I have been presented with.

You can change names on the mogstation.

Can't remember what the fee was though.

Anyone else planning to change their main class (what they will first take to level 70 and gear up) in the next expansion?

Unless they add some super duper cool stuff to Paladin I will most likely switch to something else.

Of course I'll have to wait till they show the new jobs before I make a decision.

I usually pick the job I feel will have the most difficulty getting jobs on the Duty Finder early on, thus I picked a pure DPS job (Bard) at the time. If they have another tank and healer job in the expansion I will probably be more open to doing whatever I feel like the first time through, but I have been Bard Main since 1.0 alongside my WHM. I'm like 300k from getting all jobs to lvl 60 so I can pick whatever to take in the next expansion lol.
