Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward |OT| The Midas Touch

Suffering From Success
Final notes: Poetics vendor sells the other two items and beast tribes have theirs spread across them evenly.

Can we just stop here? This looks way better than the relic.

So Step 3 seems to be the real bullshit.
There's 4 catalysts you need to present to finish the relic.
EACH of the catalysts requires 20 of "Unidentified" item (specific per) and 4 HQ crafted specialist items (recipe takes dawnborne, diadem mats, all that good stuff).
How to get unidentified items? 10 new Alexander tokens per ONE item. Or 13 beast tribe tokens. Or get them from treasure chests. Or buy 2 of them for law (680 law).
That means... 800 Alex runs, or 54000 law, or 1040 rank 3 beast tribe quests.
Of course, you can combine. But um...

No.

There has to be something better than this. There has to be something more efficient. I have such a hard time believing the gate is really that high. That's not even steady progress. That's just daunting.

Yeah, no. I'm done.

So if I'm reading this right for the last phase of the Relic you need these 4 new items, which you get by trading 20 Unidentified items (one type per final item) as well as 4 HQ materials of some sort.

Since I don't do beast tribes or gather, let's assume I want to farm Alexander and Law tomes for the unidentified items (this is ignoring the 4 HQ items you also need). Let's also assume 1 Alex run = 1 Precision drop.

Per final item I need 20 Unidentifed. Per Unidentified I need 10 of the new Alex drops. That is 200 runs of Alexander for one of the four final items. If I want all four, that's 800 total runs. Presumably with the unfinished relic weapon equipped? Holy crap.

Assuming I want to use Law instead, I can at least get the Unidentified Ore & Seeds with it at 680 each. That's 13,600 Law per final item, meaning 27,200 Law gets me halfway through the final stage. With another 400 Alex runs needed.

I'm not sure what you need for the 16 HQ items you need on top, but I bet it's pretty bad.

tl;dr to hell with that.

EDIT: I've looked up doing it via Beast tribes and that's 13 beast tribe tokens per item (Vanu require 18 tokens per item), which is 260 beast tribe tokens per final item with 1040 needed in total.
Gathering only gives you the two of the unidentified types as well, so you still need to do beast/alex/law for the other two.

EDIT2: It's even more beast tribe. I had the number at half. Fixed.

Gee wow....

The grinding we did on the Zodiac Relic Weapon has NOTHING on this and I don't see more than half of the current Zets owners to even try attempting this.

I regret trading in my Nirvana Zeta for this...
Although Awoken esoteric weapons do look pretty damn cool.

This is real. This is on.

Time to roll up those sleeves.

Gonna take my time with these relics, not like there is much of a choice on that front but I don't wanna risk burning out on the game. At the very least, it's more stuff to do? 8D;

Yeah, those numbers are disgusting, like a social experiment to see how many players really don't value their own time or have self respect.

I bet in each patch going forward they'll increase the precision drops from 1->2->4->8, the law items will halve and then quarter, but I doubt they'll make beast tribe turn-ins less obnoxious since those are seemingly designed to purposefully give the shittiest reward to time spent ratio of all content in the game.

I think it's too early in my morning to comprehend the final step there. My initial reaction, however, is "Well, I do have a lot of other games to beat."

And I was thinking about doing the relic for my SMN and DRG...

These crafted items will be expensive as fuck, won't them? I'm not even level 60 yet.

This is just insulting. They added in a bunch of ways to get the items, and every last one is bullshit.

Plus you need 16 HQ crafted 1-star items because why not.

Arguably the worst part is there's absolutely no actual new content tied to this, and conceptually it's just recycled from the ARR steps. Which means they somehow managed to miss 3.1 with this insane grind? Really?

In practical terms I can't see getting this early enough to make it worth it when 3.2 is a couple months off.

The i200 step is a nice alternative to the eso weapon, but I seriously think this would end up taking more time to get to i210 than we actually spent wiping in A4S. Like, in terms of time investment, it's bad ROI. Why.

So if there was ever a red flag to let people know it's time to unsubscribe it's now?

I can see the hardcore players getting this pretty easily but everyone else would be completing it right when the new and easier to obtain ilvls crush it and yet another ridiculous step is added to get the relic up to speed.

Yeah, these weapons aren't even good. Maybe a couple classes got good stats, the others not, and none of them look so great you'd want to drop everything you're doing and grind this. Hell, the animated Esoterics weapons look better, like... what.

For the final step:

There are 4 final items you need. Each final item requires 20 Unidentified items as well as 4 HQ crafted items (not listed below as I don't know how to get them. Dirty non crafter)

Each option below is the maximum for each gather type for the Unidentified items and can be combined with the others (e.g. for Bone you could do 100 Alex & 130 Beast Tribe tokens and for Seeds you could do 50 Alex, 120 Beast, 3400 Law)

Divide by 20 to get the price per unidentified item. Maps are random chance to drop an unident item it seems.
-------------------------
200 Alex runs // 260 Beast Tribe // 13,600 Poetics // 20000 Allied Seal -> Bone (Rubber)

200 Alex runs // 260 Beast Tribe // 13,600 Poetics // >=20 Heavensward Maps -> Shell (Carboncoat)

200 Alex runs // 260 Beast Tribe // 13,600 Law // >=20 Heavensward Maps -> Ore (Divine Water)

200 Alex runs // 260 Beast Tribe // 13,600 Law // 20000 Allied Seal -> Seeds (Allagan Catalyst)
-------------------------
Total:
800 Alex // 1040 Beast tokens // 27,200 Law // 27,200 Poetics // >=40 HW maps // 40000 Allied Seal

AND 16 HQ items of some sort.

EDIT: Apparently Allied Seals give out at 1,000 per Seed/Bone. Added. I'm not currently in game so I'm collecting info from forums/reddit for this info.
EDIT2: Added Poetics.

The beast tribe/map options are bullshit too because you have daily allowances on how many you can do per day. (well, you can buy maps, but the prices of those are going to skyrocket to scarcity on the MB)

I think I'm just going to sit comfortably at the i200 step, glamour it onto my raiding weapon, and wait it out until Yoshi-P strokes his chin at how few people have done "his content" and the inevitable nerf rolls along.

My opinion on Heavensward never hinged on 3.15's content, but this is just gross. I can say with a straight face now that this expansion has been an utter disappointment.

I'm sure someone will figure this out more precisely but with quick and dirty math- if you want to finish in a month, and you have the 4 ARR beast tribes (other than ixal) maxed out and get the maximum number of tokens it would be 12 a day, which comes to 28 unidentified items in a month. That would mean 11-12 runs of alex normal a day to get he number of unidentified items you need by the end of a month. It's a bit tricky to figure out because you have to take into the account the law tomes you get from alex as well so if someone wants to correct my math, please do.

Wow, and the DRG weapon isn't even good. At least give us a suitable reward for that grind.

Right? i205 weapons had crit and det.

Though freeing up skill speed to get us <=2.4 allows us to not worry about it on other gear, +1 weapon damage and ~3 strength doesn't really bridge the gap by itself.

Not allowing us to choose stats (so moving backwards from Zodiac from a design perspective) is just baffling to me.

I feel like Heavensward is a great single-player story RPG with a really lacking MMO component.

I did not play much of ARR or do the original relic at all. I was excited for this.

I am now no longer excited.

I love how most of the new weapon names are the same as the empyrean weapons from FFXI which I had a handful of. Hurray for grinding for the same weapon in two different games. Since I have two-star main hand, offhand, and body on 6 crafting classes... I guess I will be asked to craft some shit for anime weapons? :( RIP retirement

I'm sorry for your loss..

As for me if I'm going to go through this BS anyways I rather do it while keeping my original Yoichi Bow Zeta so I will not be converting my Weapon.

I'm already on the acceptance stage. Just going to take my time. Until I need the crafted stuff, I'll probably already level 60 with most of them and with my specialists defined, so I won't cry about that.

It's going to be fun.

After thinking about it a bit, I don't necessarily mind that there's a longterm goal to work towards. The length of the grind is a little absurd considering we should be getting 3.2 in February/March and it's not even close to a guarantee that you'll finish the grind before 3.2 hits with higher ilvl weapons.

What I do mind is the fact that the secondary stats for some of these weapons absolutely blow. You're grinding for a weapon that's only marginally better than the Thordan weapons in some cases, and that's some serious bullshit. Let us customize the secondary stats if you're gonna make us work this hard for the weapon.

My problem isn't that it's a "longterm goal", or that it takes a long time, it's that running Alex NM 600-800 times is just not fun.
Relic hasn't been fun since after the first step, and they went from unique questline to "grind a bunch of old shit" design.

Worst content in the game, by far. And it's even crazier this time that it took them so long to get the new set out when there's nothing really new here. It's just repackaged grinds from the first relic line.

I'd imagine they had it ready for a while and just planned it for the 3.1-3.2 dead zone.

I wonder what made them decide relic needed to be a horrible grind?

Like I cannot believe that they ran out of unique ideas and scenarios after the first relic.

I agree, but then I didn't find my original relic grind very fun either.
At least the grind wasn't as awful as this!

By comparison to get a Zenith Relic Weapon in 2.1 they only asked for 3x Thavnairian Mist for 900 Mythology Tomes.

But this is a whole new Level of WTF.
