Hey. We need to hang out, that is a great list. There isn't a movie on there that I haven't seen or would call bad.

its a only a test at the mo but need to brush up on some web programming languages so I'll end up building it out to something real.

The back end spread just from the GAF trail has been really interesting (added a few games later so see how long it takes to even out).

http://littlejuju.com/gamefight/gamelist.php

really simple ranking at the mo
Winner = +1
Looser = -1
I will step in as a financial backer right now. Ground floor, baby!

Does anyone know how they handle their rating system. Is it purely binary, or positive and negative? I'm curious for Gowans sake, I like his little project and I'd love to help out with what I can, in this case finding out about the rating system.

It truly is a sad day in American history when you have to choose Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls over the Burton remake of Planet of the Apes.

I think whatn happens is that the winner takes over the loser's spot, and the loser moves down a spot. ie. if your #2 and #45 movies are matched up and you choose #45, then it jumps all the way to #2, while the other falls to #3.

Finally it's starting to look accurate

Finally put together a fairly accurate top 20 and a generally true top 50. I wish they weren't missing some of my favorites though, still (Pineapple express came out last year!)

After about 1500 rankings I'm starting to have my movies sort themselves out:

1. 2001 A Space Odyssey
2. Return of the King
3. The Usual Suspects
4. The Dark Knights
5. Requiem for a Dream
6. Chinatown
7. Aliens
8. Dr. Stangelove
9. Alien
10. The Godfather, II
11. The Road to Perdition
12. Apocalypse Now
13. Star Wars
14. Stand by Me
15. Spartacus
16. The Bourne Identity
17. A Clockwork Orange
18. Aladdin
19. The Professional
20. Sunshine

I've come up with two things... #1 - I'm a Stanley Kubrick whore. And #2 - my video tastes aren't quite as 'refined' as I thought they were. :p

I think it's a pretty damn annoying way of ranking movies. Some of the early crap that first came up is still in my top 50, because nothing better appeared to vs them. Mars Attacks was in my top 20 for a while and i don't even really like the movie. It has started to look better, but i'm still not that satisfied. It is a nice time waster/diversion when i'm bored, however.

1 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2 A Clockwork Orange
3 Vertigo
4 Raiders of the Lost Ark
5 The Elephant Man
6 Aliens
7 Brazil
8 Fargo
9 Wonder Boys
10 Good Bye Lenin!
11 Children of Men
12 Rear Window
13 Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn
14 Alien
15 Shaun of the Dead
16 Jaws
17 Blade Runner
18 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
19 Full Metal Jacket
20 12 Monkeys

I don't have a definitive list, it's always in flux and a lot of the lower half are pretty interchangeable.

Pretty cool site. There is the issue of random matches not weeding out movies that are good but not great... aka - Interview With a Vampire was number 2 on my list forever because it kept versing movies like Little Nicky! Once you've done it enough, limit the matches to top 100, and then top 50, and then top 20.

Lion King, Tenenbaums, Usual Suspects, Amadeus, and Nightmare Before Christmas are all in my top ten, which they would probably be top five, so it's getting darn close.

It gets hard when you have to choose between LOTR movies or Godfather 1 vs 2. Fun site.

Hey everyone...

I'm the co-founder of Flickchart - just wanted to say thanks for the discussion and comments here on the site. Lots of good points all around. We are listening, and we're taking every piece of feedback we get - good or bad - to help improve Flickchart. We've got a lot more in store for the site between now - and after our public launch on 09/09/09.

May I ask how Major League is not in your database, while Major League II and III are? What the hell, dude?

Haha... not by any purposeful exclusion on our part, certainly. Probably just a data problem with that particular film that we haven't resolved yet. We'll get it fixed and back in there soon... thanks for the heads up! :lol

Does this site still have a lot of issues for anyone else? About 50% of the time I'm on there I just endlessly get the 'loading' bar when trying to rank movies.

Add shit tons more foreign and art house films. The Criterion Collection should be at least fully on there. Like only 3 films that are in my top 100 right now would even be in my top 100 or even 500.

1. Pulp Fiction
2. The Empire Strikes Back
3. Memento
4. True Lies
5. Fight Club
6. Back to the Future
7. Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade
8. The Prestige
9. Snatch
10. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
11. The Shawshank Redemption

14. GoodFellas
15. Reservoir Dogs
16. The Departed
17. The Usual Suspects
18. Total Recall
19. Robocop
20. Seven

Kinda shaping up. It's hard to get an accurate list when movies can only move into the place of others directly, seems that way anyway. Plus whenever you try to single a movie out to get a higher rank they always seem to match it against the shittiest movies you've seen.

I didn't want to create a new thread so I bumped this one instead. Is there a video game version of Flickchart or something similar? I would waste countless time ranking games lol.

Someone in this thread was talking about developing one, there could be some money there! I like the idea.

My list, which I had for several days before the public launch. Ain't I cool?

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Jaws
3. Barton Fink (<-- look at the avatar)
4. No Country For Old Men
5. The Matrix
6. Back to the Future
7. Pan's Labyrinth (ehh)

Films like Aliens, Starship Trooper and Die Hard seem eager to bust in.

The site is awesome, but it does need some changes. Why if I rank a movie over a movie that perhaps shouldn't be so high in the list, does it automatically stay on top of the one I just ranked rather than going lower, based on recent stastitics that movies below may be better?
