Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

I didn't know so much people hate the sand snakes lol.
I think more than anything, they're unmemorable and were the notable weak point of the series (Dorne). More the fault of writers doing an awful job at setting up Dorne. Didn't really like how the show shit on them though. It looked like the writers saw the fan reception and went with fucking with them. That's cringeworthy for a serious show. Can you imagine GRIMM doing that garbage in a book because fans had a specific reaction and wanted to please them?

I'm hoping they stick to their actual guns and not look at what people online like/dislike.

She’s really beginning to piss me off with that. Yes, by name and by blood, she’s a Stark and has more rights to lead than Jon. But Jon was Lord Commander of the Nights Watch and he fought against the white walkers. She should just shut up and let him do his damn job.

Last time Jon just did his job without an equal to provide a different perspective, he ended up getting stabbed to death.

At least with only one of them remaining maybe they'll have the time to flesh her out instead of constantly having to write banter between the three.

That is, if she stays alive.

In the EW interview with Jessica Henwick she says the writers asked to her to come back for a more drawn out storyline, but she could only get out of filming Iron Fist for a short amount of time.

The thing is they're not on screen long enough for me to hate them. They some scenes i like, and some I don't. The whole bad pussy line was just silly.

But yeah, they could have some better writing for them. I like the whole idea that Oberyn raised them to be like a bad ass hit squad and enjoy their bantering as they're all from different mothers.

I think they have tried to focus too much on bring in plot twists but done it in a ham fisted manner. Almost everything that happens which isn't dialogue is presented in a similar method to the twists. All the plot twists that worked were due to character development done over long periods, everything is now done bite sized with slim to no development. The quality in writing has also done one as well. I guess HBO just want the series to be done.

HBO wanted the show to go on for 10 seasons.

It never really feels like they were raised to be some hit squad, and its a shame. If our introduction had maybe been them infiltrating Kings Landing in the wake of Oberyn's death to assassinate...someone, or some feats, it'd be more interesting. As it is, it just feels like they're boring and generic characters.

Its a shame how compressed some elements of the shows storytelling has become. If HBO ever wanted the series to last 10 seasons, I feel like pacing would be a far greater problem than it was/is now. It's like how AMC apparently have plans for TWD to run to Season 15 and its just...at what point do you honestly have no more story left to tell.

This made me smile.

I *think* i got that reference :p

Yeah it's a shame. I wish they were flesh out a bit more. Characters die on this show, that's how it is but their deaths would have more impact, whether you like them or not, if they were more fleshed out more.

Barristen dying had me tight. His screen time was minor but he was more fleshed out that i cared.

Rickon dying, had me going, okay i guess.

Probably why she's still alive.

lol, I can just imagine the writers...

"Ok, we need to kill all the sand snakes daughters. We failed with them and everyone hates them, so no one will shed a tear or miss them if they're dead."

"Sure, but let's keep the one with the nice breasts, people loved her in that scene. That'll give us another opportunity to show them on screen later."

"Deal."

I don't recall how the show handled people knowing about the mountain being reanimated.

Didn't people think he died in the trial by combat? Was he ever reintroduced as the hound post walk of shame?

This may be my first season watching GoT as it airs but reading this thread/seeing the many discussions certainly helps make the wait between Sundays more bearable.

If she is topless again before she finally gets whacked, then you know this conversation actually happened.

Not really. Guy is being way too nitpicky and is missing the point of a lot of scenes.

1. He goes at length about why Dany didn't meat Ellaria and the others in Dorne instead of the other way around even though the series has explained at length about customs and how one is to treat their superiors. If Dany is to be respected, they would come to her, not the other way around. It isn't about strategy, it's about respect. It's the same reason Jon doesn't send an emissary to meet with Dany instead, she's a Queen, you come personally to her.

2. His complaint about Sansa publicly undermining Jon is also a thing explained by the show. Jon challenges her directly about it and she explains that it's because she thinks if they don't get through to him, they're all going to die. The Stark men have been making bonehead decision after decision throughout the run of the show with no one able to convince them otherwise on their own. She wants the group to pressure Jon into not making what she views stupid calls all the time. Sure it hurts Jon's standing with the group, but she honestly believes he'd die if he does things his way, and she has good reason to believe this based on what she's been through.

3. The Cersei giant crossbow complaint is a pure nitpick. "It totally should have been invented by now!" is massive reaching and I think we all know it.

4. Dany being arrogant comes out of nowhere? Have we been watching the same show? We've watched this woman get hyped to high heaven all throughout the series, and we've seen glimpses of her brutality throughout the show. She burned a woman alive in season 1 and promised she would scream! This is that same character, but with years of near constant praise and success behind her back. The idea that she wouldn't become more and more corrupted as she got closer to her goal is a dumb one.

5. The entire premise that Euron capturing Ellaria/Yara isn't a consequence of an action is flawed to me. It seems to be a total refutation of Tyrion's strategy of dividing and conquering instead of showing ones full might all at once. He's playing it cool with Cersei and it's going to bite him and his allies in the ass. I don't buy that "every bad thing that happens to someone has to somehow be their own fault" theory this article pushes, but it's clear this crushing loss is Tyrion's fault. I doubt his assault on Casterly rock will fair much better. The solution later on will be the same one proposed by their allies from the start: Dragons.

I do somewhat agree with him on a couple of points. The question of how the hell Euron knew where they were for one. The only options are that he was heading to Dorne anyways and just happened to intercept them (which is a contrivance, but the show's done worse), or that he was tipped off by someone in Yara's crew (which seems even more likely to me, but we'll see next episode).

The other point I kind of see is the old "Why didn't Sansa tell Jon about the Knights of Vale?" point. My theory is that she didn't know for sure if they'd come and wanted Jon and the team to fight without expecting a cavalry that might not arrive. Even then though, she could have said "the Knights of Vale might show up, but don't expect them to show up 100%". A bad call by Sansa IMO, but not the show shattering plothole a lot of people think it is.

This article starts off with criticism on the books and ends with a statement saying he'd trade those flaws for the show's flaws any day. I'm of the opposite camp, but I can't exactly explain why here.

I'm sure it's been asked and answered numerous times, but I haven't seen it.

The books are now behind the show. So are the show writers now going where ever they want with the show, or are they guided by the creator/write of the books? Just not sure how it's all playing out.

He really doesn't. It was only expected that Dany would go directly to Dragonstone before anywhere else.

The latter.

I agree. And even worse the one with the big and nice tits who made Bronn say she is the most beautiful woman in the world , that actress got replaced and wasn't in episode 2 anymore :(

The only story i care about now is the Starks. The rest all just bitch about how they are going to take / keep the Iron throne.

It also feels like the show has so much going on that it has trouble keeping up with everyone.

Jesus fucking Christ, really classy.

She was in the episode. Though I guess we know why you had trouble recognising her.

The Starks and Tyrion are all I care about.

And Sam and Jorah.

And Lady Mormont.

And Davos.

You're catching on. That's why geography, motivation, political alliance, the feudal system, and time lines have completely gone by the wayside.

What you should expect going forward is

-Alliance forms.
-This army dies.
-This army dies in retaliation.
-This army gets surprise attacked.
-This character gets revenge killed.

Repeat until whitewalker apocalypse
I am okay with that if its executed and cut better. On another forum I was like the only person in the GOT topic cheering to see more battles.
So everyone is agreeing right that Sansa is totally gonna fuck over and screw up everything Jon build in the North right? Like with Trump replacing Obama xD

I have a feeling Jon won't be king of he north anymore when he returns to Winterfell. Maybe Bran returns before him and he shares info about Jon's lineage, something that Sansa/Littlefinger uses against him.

I'm really late here as I was catching up to the thread but why are people posting preview stuff without tags? Stop that shit.

Just Bran know basically everything? He knew what Ed has been up to just by looking at him, or is it just stuff beyond the wall?

If not, he's gonna know some of what Sansa's going through and will probably know that she's got some trust issues at the moment

What if she turns into a literal ice queen?

If anyone's to blame it's on D&D for pushing the sexualization of women as a focal point of the show, not the fans for just going with what they're presented.
D&D are to "blame" but this is HBO and I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of fans look forward to it. I'm someone who just goes with it to get to the next scene.

Meera needs to hurry and drag Bran to Jon and Dany and let them know they're relatives so they can get married and join forces.

I find it regrettable to see that the sexualization of women is a focal point of the series to so many fans
Yeah if i was fixated on seeing tits, I'd just watch porn, but to each their own.

I doubt either of them would want to go down the incest road.

Possibly they could pair up first, then find out from Bran later that Jon is actually Dany's nephew.

Silly me, I actually didn't realise that about the Ed scene :p

Yeah, that might be true, I'm really looking forward to see Bran interact with people though, hopefully he is not as mysterious as the (last) three-eyed raven.

Agreed, although after the time they spend together maybe they will want to get married anyway, before knowing they're related.

This is the rebuttal I say to people who argue for it. I don't want to see sex and nudity, not when I'm watching Tv.

And I think this is why some naysayers call Thrones a glorified porno.

I agree, love the show but I've always been turned off by the gratuitous nudity and sex scenes. It's like, I can just watch porn if I'm in the mood for that..I'd rather they focus on actual plot development.
