Game of Thrones *NO BOOK DISCUSSION* |OT2| Season 7 - [Read the OP]

Who would have thought that bringing her to Westeros and involving her with other main characters would help?

Having puppy dogs eyes for Jon all season too.
Agreed. What sucks about Essos is that she was surrounded by people she had to act strong around all the time. Her character was with others she wasn't allowed to show weakness around, so her acting came off wooden and fake. But in reality...her character kind of was being fake? Or rather, she was playing a role. And she had to. I think.

Alcohol wouldn't throw my viewing reactions off the charts though, but being on camera might also be part of it. It wouldn't be much fun to see reaction to people staring at a screen.

Those people sure were intense about an ice wall going down as if they weren't going to expect that. ;p

I do get invested in characters but not in a way I audibly gasp and fall of my chair when something happens to them, maybe it's a show thing though since you don't get to know them as well as in books, my reaction is mostly disbelief and re-read certain parts thinking I've read it wrong. Getting excited or emotion is one thing but this lady cares too much about a wall haha.

Her and the rest of her front row friends ham it up so hard. It's pretty amusing, if a little bit annoying.

I did like the reaction from Jaime's fakeout death. Everyone in the bar started freaking out lol.

I have hated on her for 6 seasons now. Bottom of the barrel boring, and couldn't care for much of anything she did. I absolutely loved her in season 7 though. No idea what changed, but I kind of can't wait to go and rewatch the series to see if I like her more now in earlier in seasons.

Her story seemed to just go in a circle forever, rehashes of the same story told in different locations. She is FINALLY doing something and the show is better for it.

People complaining about how other people watch things will never not be absurd.

Her story was kinda frustrating because you want her to leave, and at points it feels like she has enough boats and armies, only for it to all get fucked up or for her to want to make things work in that place. It plays a bit better if you know she's not leaving Essos until 6 and are just watching her story without that expectation.

Season 1 Dany is fairly Compelling to me, show and book. But yeah, 2-6 is meh with some high Points.

Any chance the pirate uncle is so cocky because he met the Drowned God on his journeys and can summon a Cthulhu-like thing (or squid like on their banner) to fight Dragons and Night King?
They mentioned this season that the Drowned God will rise when something something happens.
I want the final episode to be a Power Rangers Battle Royal between all the gods in their various monster/element forms.

Also, I think Targaryens are so far removed from humans that they have problems getting children with normal humans (or at least non-first men) so there was no curse on Dany. She just couldn't have kids with someone like Drogo. But Jon can knock her up. Hence giving rise to another royal dynasty (the one thing Cersei banks on after Tyrion told her that Dany is a lost cause as she supposedly can't have children).

I bet Euron didn't even see anything impressive on his journey around the world. Probably just saw a Gorilla or Zebra or something mundane as fuck.

The Bran is the Night King theory was basically born out of Hold the Door.

Time travel is an extremely dumb thing to add to any story unless you're going to make the entire story about time travel (and even then...), and if Bran = Night King is the dumbest logical leap to result from it, we should all count ourselves incredibly fortunate.

Someone noticed the undead horde resembled the Stark sigil of a Wolf. Night Bran aside, it's possible NK was a stark and a green seer.

Season 8 confirmed for March then.

Not really, though, but don't all the Blu-Rays come out a month or two before the season comes out? This one seems to be coming out way sooner.

Season 6 also released on Blu-ray mere months after ending.

Guess their market research told them people would buy them more if they weren't made to wait too much.

Opening shot of next season needs to be a close up of Jon and Dany's faces as they learn the truth

No it needs to be Jon and Danny all sweaty and hot in bed, before cutting to cream being poured over some pie. The camera pans out, and there's Hot Pie staring towards the camera, breaking the forth wall.

Send me a cheque D&D, I'll write it all myself.

Remember when we tried to find the dragon in the snowy blood left after Jon was stabbed lol? That looks more like a wolf than the blood did a dragon though. I could believe a distant Stark is the night king. I just don't think it's Bran.

Game of Thrones is filmed on a camera unable to output in 4K, it is filmed at 1080p, so an UHD upscale wouldn't be worth it.

Wrong, GoT is filmed with Arri Alexa cameras which go a lot higher than 4K. But the show is mastered in 2K because of the numerous effect shots.

Also, educate yourself on why UHD/4K releases are beneficial even for 1080p or 2K sources. This "bu-bu-but upscale!" thing is entirely overblown.

Just 3? That's a whole lot of compression.

Since season 4 every boxset has been 4 discs. Now with only 7 episodes, 3 discs makes sense.

GoT releases always have pristine image quality and high bitrates.

Seasons 1-3 cameras were 1080p and 4-7 were 2880x1620

Yea. Especially this season it's VERY apparent it's shot in 4k and mastered in a lower resolution. This season is night and day compared the older seasons. It looks incredible.

The last one came out in November, but yeah, all the previous seasons came out around March of the next year.

I wish some of the complains from this season would make them go for the even 10 for next season but I guess it kinda depends on how effects heavy they're hoping to go.

I hope Lyanna is in season 8 more, too. She's such an amazing character.

Anyone here familiar with the GoT soundtracks?

I forgot the name of a track and wanted to know if anyone here knew it.

It's the track that plays whenever the Starks have a "good moment" together. It's somber and emotional. Specifically, it plays when Jon and Sansa reunite for the first time, but has played many other times during the seasons.

Not gonna happen. D&D wanna finish this ASAP. Hell, they didn't even want to do two seasons and prefered to wrap up everything in S7.

It's kind of the Winterfell/Stark theme. I believe the first appearance of it on the soundtracks is "Goodbye Brother" from the season 1 soundtrack.

They start filming in October and are expecting to go till August.

We really are looking at 2019 realistically. Especially with an extensive post-production to complete after filming.

one would think that with all characters together at last, the filming would take a lot less time

It's the Stark theme, there's not a specific track for it.

There are many variations.

See:

"Goodbye Brother
"Winterfell"
"Heir to Winterfell"
"The North Remembers"
"The Children"
"The Wars to Come"
"Hold the Door"
"Trust Each Other"
"Winter Has Come"
"The Tower"
"A Game I Like to Play"
"Home"

Due to the nature of events about to occur, production becomes a lot more complicated, costly, and time-consuming. That post-production is going to be hell.

I always get nervous when these things go overly long. Feel like someone might die or get arrested or something and they'll start having to work around that.

Really? They started filming S7 at the very end of August. So if this shoot starts less than two months later, with one less episode to film, I can't see why that'd take over a year to finish. When did they say they expect production to go all the way through next August?

That doesn't simplify things that much on a production like this. As one example, take the scene of Dany and her entourage arriving at Dragonstone from episode 1 this season. When they land on the beach, that's a location in Spain. When they approach the gate, that's a constructed set in Belfast. When they move past the gate on the big rock walkway up to the castle, that's a different location in Spain. The throne room is another set in Belfast, and the map room is a separate set.

That's two countries and three sets for one scene. Then there's a bunch of digital effects on top of that.

In an interview with HBO programming president Casey Bloys and executives from other networks, The Hollywood Reporter cites unnamed sources who claim “the fantasy drama’s eighth season is slated to begin in October and run as late as August 2018.”

Idk if he was a Stark I'd think they would lean into the Stark look more instead of a well groomed Daniel Craig. Something about the Night Kings look has never struck with me. I wish he was a bit more intimidating or scary looking or even just a little more aged and rugged. Maybe his human origin story plays into that?
