okay i admit i am one of the 95% behind the car view players mostly cause of the controller. Sounds a bit like they wanted to cut the costs. If i had a wheel for racing, i would be underwhelmed and "angry".
I thought that was the vita logo :'(
Codemasters® today announced that GRID® 2, the long-awaited sequel to the BAFTA-award winning, critically acclaimed Race Driver: GRID, is in production at Codemasters Racing Studios and set for a 2013 launch for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC.
I just want a new TRD3.
I played this game for many hours and I don't think I ever used the in-car view except for watching crashes... I guess it's important enough for some people, seems cheap and "budget-cutting" on Codies part. One of the cool things about the first game was the massive variety in game modes and tracks. There was one weird Japanese event where you had to race a car without touching it, at night time, which I didn't discover for ages. I hope they kept and improved the career mode where you build a racing team.
It had too many cars and real world tracks, plus all the interior views. You know how confusing that is? It just wasn't accessible enough for the mainstream market.
@brotkasten obviously I didn't read it and watched the trailer..to be fair the logo is pretty heavily used in Vita as well, don't remember it as much on anything else, not even PS3. The startup of the Vita for example.
Also mentions PSP on the wikipedia page :/ and already had 2 logos for playstation.
Would have been so nice on vita. Portable grid :'(
Poor Helios. This is not going to be easy for him to deal with this (hopefully) very vocal minority.
Good luck!
No in-car mode is a weird choice.
Only 5% play that way? Sure, that's fine, but that's 5% that probably won't buy it now!
Also, do people really play racing games with a wheel in bumber/chase cam? Seriously?
Biggest thread on the codemasters grid 2 forums right now is about the cockpit, yeah boi.
I do, actually. It just looks weird to me seeing two sets of hands and wheels. (My hands on the steering wheel, and the pilot's hands and wheel on the screen.) It also restricts too much view of the track to the windshield, which makes it look like my screen is only a tiny fraction of what it really is and makes it more difficult to play/see around.

It also restricts too much view of the track because you can only see through the windshield, which makes it look like my screen is only a tiny fraction of what it really is and makes it more difficult to play/see around. That doesn't mean I'm happy about taking the feature out, though as it should be a standard feature.
They better not drop cockpit view from Dirt 4.

I always figured the attraction to a wheel was exactly that though, the 1:1 replication of your hands on a real (fake) wheel appearing on-screen as you turned your fake hands around the steering wheel.
Guess you learn something every day though!
I really can't believe that they took the cockpit view out. Their reasoning is even stranger.
In one of the DiRT showdown threads we were talking about how we didn't really want any of that stuff and how we really just wanted a proper DiRT 4. Helios responded with this:At this point it really wouldn't surprise me if they dropped the cockpit view, real cars, and made a completely over the top futuristic racing game out of it. RALLYCROSS IN SPACE! X-Games of the future!
Listening to fans, how does that work?
We want more Rally. Here's more Trailblazer, fictional places where'd you never have rally racing, GYMKHANA, oh and here's Dirt Showdown since you wanted even more Gymkhana.
We want the old Toca back with more licensed disciplines and tracks. Here's fictional street races and drifting.
Have to get that casual fan! Their dollars are worth more!
Helios_CM said:We hear you, and we haven't forgotten about the fans of our rally fans. If you dig around a few DiRT Showdown interviews you'll see references to 'DiRT 4'.
I think they just made DiRT Showdown to make the most of the work they had already done on those modes and to allow them to leave them out of the next proper DiRT game.
That's what they are saying right now and I honestly hope that it's true but it wouldn't be the first time that they bullshit us.
The other big omission is Destruction Derby mode. Yes, it was great fun in GRID, but you can play DiRT Showdown for that now. 'But it's not the same!' you're probably thinking and you're right. We'll miss it too. But the argument from the team is that all the destruction and close racing is present in the street racing anyway. And one of the few criticisms we have of the first game is that some of the modes were under-developed, destruction derby included. But that's not going to happen here – everything that's in is going to be done properly.

I just want this again
In-car view is out, after Codemasters' research discovered that 95 per cent of players use chase or bonnet cameras to play.
Really? Who did they ask exactly??
I really can't believe that they took the cockpit view out. Their reasoning is even stranger.
