Halo 5 might have live streaming/spectator if Halo 4 proves to be fruitful.

CoD was the perfect game to have such a feature. Look on youtube, machinima.com. People are constantly streaming their gameplay, commentating, etc etc. Halo does it too, but not on the scale of CoD.

If Blops2 proves succesfull, and Halo 4 brings Halo back as a popular game to stream and do commentaries over... Wouldn't be too unrealistic to expect something similar out of Halo 5. Especially since its going to be next gen.

There isn't really enough players who're wanting to stream the game, who don't currently have the equipment to do so, that desperately want and would utilise a feature like this. Those players who're intent on streaming, and developing an audience, already have the equipment to do whatever Blops 2 will allow, and more (I'm guessing, there).

For the very hardcore group, there's streaming, for everyone else there's theatre which more than fills the void in that regard. Saying that, I definitely think a spectator mode is an important feature that would be worth the resources required to implement it.

i agree with most of this, but i'm not sure even spectator mode would be worth the investment. i would certainly like to have it, but i cant imagine the vast majority of players would never use it or maybe just once, briefly, to check it out.

Finally played for the first time in what seemed like forever. Super Slayer with AR starts.

Went to Big Team and got Heavies on Cragmire.

Could be worse.

Save you're nerd rage gifs for the dissapointing BS Angle weekly update. Full of the daily shenanigans around the studio. Now with more info about how everyone is in crunch mode.

Realistic pants?! Sorry, only knee jerk hyperbole allowed in here today.

Really? Only the gif/jpg storm and last few pages. I remember my morning starting out in a calm, measured manner.

I can recall multiple instances since Halo 2 on the MLG forums (didn't really check out any others at the time other than occassionally Bungie) where people made quite vocal and well-put cases in favor of both theater and spectator features (and bots, too - going from UT to Halo, it always struck me as really odd). It's only such a massive deal right now because we are now in the age of easy-to-do streaming, as well as the removal from MLG's lineup.

For me personally, if they came out and just straight up said, "Hey guys, we really wanted to do it and had planned on it, but money/time wasn't there to get it done by our deadline," I would be satisfied. If there is something specific to the H4 engine or the available hardware that makes it technically unfeasible, then say so. Even if they can't get into hard details (proprietary technology or something), we could be told "Sorry, due to the design of the engine we decided to go with, this is unfortunately not going to be a feature than we can implement."

Avoiding, being sarcastic, making vague references to "bandwidth" is not the way to go.

Whilst I certainly don't believe it'd be adopted by the masses, it wouldn't take a ton of resources either, and the benefit it would give the competitive group is worth that. It's, without trying to distill the effort it would require too much, an extension of many things that already exist in theatre.

Then you go say something like this. You don't know what it'd take, so why say such things?

It's hard to believe this brand-new Treyarch developer is shitting on Bungie's Halo 4 so badly. It's shameful. I can't wait to see their superior CoD-Forge mode, since apparently Black Ops has complete feature parity with Halo.

Please hit the brakes on the .gifs and spam reactions. This will probably go unheeded, but I think things have leaped past a tipping point recently. We've always digressed a bit in our conversation as a community, but lately we've had pages - sometimes hundreds of posts - just fly off the rails with .gifs and random reaction or OT conversation. For the new folks especially - welcome. But please, this is a Halo thread. Can we keep it that way?

My honest belief is that 343 haven't done these features because they know they will be built in to the hardware by the time Halo 5 is out. It's not worth their while making tech that is only good for one game.

Sharing and watching other players, uploading to youtube or whatever will be standard platform level features next gen.

In 5 years, 2 sequels, and 2 different devs, Forge went from a grey lego block simulator to a grey lego block simulator with better lighting. Who knows if spectator mode will be in the next Halo game.

Stop talking about it and the problem will go away, in fact the problem has already stopped, it was also over a short stint of time.

Let's bash COD for not having any type of map editor 20 games in...nah.

Jesus christ. And it all runs at 60fps.

But hey, at least we got better lighting in Forge. Oh and Spartan Ops should be great, I can't wait to play bite sized linear Firefight missions for 3 minutes once a week.

Honestly, why do you even play Halo? Why are you here? Under all of that bitching there must be some sense of caring for the franchise, it's just covered with so much Internet tough-guy let's-bitch-about-everything that it seems like it doesn't exist, not to mention nearly all of your comments reek with negativity and sarcasm.

Same shit, different day. Gets old.

CoD could actually suck my dick and Halo would still be the better game.

The inbuilt livestreaming could single handedly launch your porn career.

I don't think the world is ready for that.

Speaking of CoD, I need a solid competitive PC shooter. Any recs?

Holy shit, kylej is still getting to some of you? Straighten up and fly right, gentlepeople.

Some men.

I think 343 is using Halo 4 as the "bait", per se. Once the next-gen xbox comes out, they'll release Halo 5 with all kinds of nifty features like dedis/spectator.

I'm sure all this new stuff BO2 is doing is mainly on PC.

The trailer was shot using 360 footage, so, that's kinda doubtful.

Do watchers have any offensive capabilities?

I don't think it can be like a watcher that follows you around. Otherwise the only drawback to the AA is that you don't have another AA.

You deploy it. always. And it follows you. What's the downside here?

Even if it was more like a Modern Warfare sentry, what's the downside to it? You set it up near your base, near their spawn. And go about your merry way.

Jetpack makes you a target and is loud.
Camo scrambles your radar, you need to be slow.
Hard Light Shield makes you slow, you can't shoot.
Thruster is one big dive away or toward something, you can't shoot while thrusting.
Hologram.... well its a fun silly ability.

I really want to find out how it works. The name alone, along with regeneration field, worry me.

As others have pointed out, at least Halo has a map editor, not to mention more flexibility in terms of customs.

However, my point was from a business/marketing sense. The Machinima company has given CoD a HUGE boost in free advertising. People everywhere are making videos, even if they're only getting 20 views. It became quite the phenomenon. If Halo 4 can reach a similar level, they should support things like it for Halo 4.
