I agree with you :). I wanted to focus on Fan-Created Remixs for the OP but will be adding in remixes produced by SEGA soon :D.

I used to have a big playlist just of Sonic remixes, back in the WinAmp days. I'll have to go through the OP to see if there's anything I know of that's missing.

Will be making a long post talking about those too :).

But yes, the CD version of the Rush soundtrack is amazing and one I used for the Rush Retrospective (links to the songs are the CD versions).

Don't really listen to much fanmade remixes when it comes to video games, though there is one Sonic track that I really like:

Project Chaos: The Doomsday

The remakes and remixes on Sonic Generation's OST are fantastic however. By far my favorite video game OST of all time.

It's been around forever. I got it and a few other Sega remixes way back when and they always bring a smile to my face when they appear in iTunes randomly.
