Not sure yet if it is linked to the attacks from yesterday.

Edit: Nope, it was a test drive. The train cought fire, not sure yet why it derailed, probably because it couldn't brake.

At least seven people where found dead.

Edit: English source:
A high-speed TGV train has derailed near the eastern French city of Strasbourg, killing at least seven people, officials say.
The crash happened during a test run in the town of Eckwersheim, on a new Paris-Strasbourg line.
Reports say technicians were on board the train and seven people were injured.
The injured have been taken to hospital by helicopters.
The AFP news agency quotes the Alsace regional prefecture as saying the derailment happened due to "excessive speed".
Pictures later showed the locomotive partly submerged in a canal alongside the track. Wreckage was also scattered in a field beside the track.
Rescue teams - including divers - are working at the scene.
Reports say the Paris-Strasbourg high-speed line is scheduled to open next year.
Transport Secretary Alain Vidalies and Ecology Minister Segolene Royal will visit the scene, French media reported.

Why the fuck would you have a "test drive" with humans in it?

For FUCKS sake. Someone's going to prison over this

Why do humans take jobs as "test pilots" and fly brand new, untested plane designs?

Why wouldn't you test a high speed train at high speeds?

Why would someone go to prison for, you know, actually testing something before it goes into public use?

Would you prefer that they just tossed the new train into public service without testing it properly?

A train is on rails, a plane is not. I dont claim to be a train engineer but im pretty certain there is a way to test a train without people on it.

Uhm, high-speed trains aren't completely automated, even the most advanced high-speed train in the world requires a conductor behind the automated system no matter what. For exactly reasons like this one in case of system failures where the train loses control, it would be even more of a nightmare if there was a high speed train out of control with no one in it and it's automatic systems failed.

It was a new train on a new railway probably being tested on how fast it needs to go during certain parts of the track; it started going too fast over a bridge and it derailed instantly. Nothing could be done considering all the technicians and engineers were on board for it's first test run.

I don't think all of them were there because they had to be, they probably wanted to experience the new train personally.

I don't claim to know the in's and outs of testing but exactly why do 9+ people need to be on a train to test it? One maybe 2 driving?? The rest?
