[Insider Gaming] Skull and Bones Release Date is February 2024

Following six delays, Insider Gaming has learned that Skull and Bones has finally got a release date of February 16, 2024.

The information follows an official announcement from Ubisoft in October that the game has a release window for set for Q4 FY23-24. Last week, Darryl Long, who will be moving to Toronto to become Managing Director confirmed that the game will ship before the end of the fiscal year.

Pre-orders for the game are currently live on the Ubisoft Store priced at £49.99, but Insider Gaming understands that Ubisoft also plans to release a Premium version of the game.
Although we’ve been unable to pinpoint the contents of the premium edition, it’s understood that the players will be able to play the game on February 13, 2024, with three days of early access.

It’s understood that the new Premium Edition will set players back another £15-£20 / $15-$20.

Details on when the game’s new release date will be announced are unclear, but sources suggest due to the nature of the obtained information that it’s likely to be in the next couple of weeks, possibly at The Game Awards.
The game, which is currently under the codename ‘Project XA’ has been under extensive playtests as of late, with the developers having its latest test last week.

Skull and Bones was originally planned for a 2018 release before being delayed no less than six times. At one point, the game even was being developed with a “new vision” in mind from the studio at Ubisoft Singapore.

Skull and Bones will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 16, 2024.

"To ensure the quality of the game we chose to push the release date to Summer 2024 (release window not final)"

Uh. It's not been delayed again? Was set for before the end of this fiscal year and is now apparently Feb.

No idea what to expect from this title.

By the time it comes out, it'll be Duke Nukem territory. People laughed at CP2077 being shown in 2012 trailers and got released in 2020. Skulls will have longer dev time than 2077.

Tag, you're it.
Just cancel this misery.
Unfortunately, they can't.

One tidbit noted in the report is that Ubisoft apparently can’t cancel the game (or at least, that doing so would be thanks to a deal it’s made with the government of Singapore. The company’s Singaporean studio, which is the primary development team on Skull & Bones, apparently receives major subsidies, but only on the condition that it releases games in the next few years. Since Skull & Bones appears to be the only project the studio is working on, it’s probably that or nothing.

It must be weird when a publisher knows this is going to flop HARD but are unable to cancel it or incur an astronomical fine.

Like they should of just released the unfinished version from years ago as "early access" and call it a full release or something. But no... Ubisoft want people to pay for this game they don't even want to release, I feel that's very Ubisoft indeed.

They are sending this amidst all the big releases so Ubi can blame all the upcoming games on why Skull and Bones sold terribly and have an excuse to the Singaporean Government.
