These are all Famitsu numbers, except where I didn't have a number for Famitsu, or where I had a more recent number from Media-Create. Also, this is pretty much all of the major titles, although a few small niche titles may be missing. Just for fun, I have also thrown in some GBA numbers for some titles that have made the charts recently.

3,213 Nonono Puzzle Chai-Rian (Nintendo) (6/16/05) - through June 19/05

Note: The Tie-Ratios for the DS and PSP are approximations only. There may be a few small niche titles which are not on these lists because they never made the Top 30 charts, and I am unable to keep up-to-date numbers on titles once they have fallen out of the charts. Having said that, once a game falls out of the charts, its sales numbers are very low, and these missing sales should have a very minor impact on the software totals for each system. I would guess that the Tie Ratio for each system is probably 0.08 - 0.15 higher than that which is listed on this chart.

A few more accurate games from previous top 100 charts:

Bomberman DS: 12,000
Famcom Wars DS: 29,000
Ganbare Goemon DS: 22,000
Meteos: 50,000

Thanks for the updated numbers CVXFREAK. Any chance of getting the months which correspond to the numbers for those four games so that I can edit my list? Anyway, thanks again!

They're all actually the month after, end date of each chart. Unfortunately, can't provide that info.

so PSP's number 1 selling game isn't even topping DS's number 5 selling game? Am i reading that right?

Wario64

works for Gamestop (lol)
788,374 Sawaru Made in Wario (WarioWare: Touched!) (Nintendo) (12/2/04) - through Sept 11/05

Yeah - you're reading it right. And I have a strong feeling that Jump Super Stars and Tamogotchi will both surpass Hot Shots by the end of the year as well. So that will be seven DS games ahead of the top selling PSP game in Japan.

I really hope Mario and Wario break a million in Japan, maybe by the middle of next year. It would suck for the DS not to have a non-million seller; even GBA doesn't have any besides Pokemon, although SMA, SMA2, Mario Kart and Rockman EXE 4 came close.

Its good to see nintendo doing well in Japan, even if it saddens me that Wipeout Pure apparently tanked.

It would be better if all the quality games sold there. =,(

I updated the LTD SW chart for DS & PSP (first post of this topic) with the numbers from this past week.

Another interesting number (GBA):

737,345 Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. (Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros.) (Nintendo) (2/14/04) - through Sept 18/05

This could very well pass a million by the end of the year. Just crazy!

Meteos > Lumines

All is well with the world.
But Lumines is so much better than Meteos... Meh, they're both great anyways, and both didn't sell nearly as many copies as they should have.

I'm a DS owner but I have to agree. I've got 28 hours in meteos, but lumines was just such a cool experience I liked how it started off really chilled out and then got frantic. Meteos is like a rocket right up your butt from the start.

but again, both excellent and deserved to sell a million each.

The Kirby remake is right up there too iirc. Wouldn't surprise me if a few of those were in fact over a million by now though.

I wonder why i have the feeling that the first million seller on japan will be Brain Training :lol

Nintendo is definitely losing out on some potential Famicom mini sales by not releasing a 4th set or re-releasing the ones that are out now.

ALL Famitsu:

Famicom Mini: SMB in 2004: 576,859
Famicom Mini: SMB Reprint: 158,312
FM:SMB total WITH reprint: 737,345
Total sales of original release in 2005: 2,174

Nintendo clearly needs to re-release SMB2, the Zeldas and a few others or launch series 4 with a few SE games, Rock Man and SMB3 (they were remade so they can still be re-released).

This is it really. Like you, I have both systems and both games, and it's no question that they are both some of the best titles available on their respective platforms.

But I just don't understand the Meteos vs. Lumines competition, as Lumines, in my mind at least, is such an overwhelmingly superior title. If both were on the same system, I really believe that the general consensus would be that Lumines is the better of the two, by quite a margin.

I'm sure they all million seller. Famitsu or whatever tracking isn't complete. Sometimes we seen such dispency in their tracking. MC had Wind Waker around 700k after a few weeks whilst Famitsu track Zelda for months and Zelda didn't come to 700k before disapearing off the face of Earth.

Nintendo and SCEI seem to be the hardest hit by polling data undercounts for some reason. CESA figures almost always show their games at 10-20% higher than Famitsu/MC/Dengeki.

I updated the charts again with the numbers from last week. I also threw in some numbers for some games which have recently charted for the GBA to help complete the picture for current portable software.

The charts are the first post of this topic.

Notable achievements this week:

DS - Kahashima Ryuuta Kyouju no Nouo Kitaeru Otona DS Training (Nintendo) surpassed 600,000
GBA - Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. (Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros.) (Nintendo) surpassed 850,000
GBA - Kouchuu Ouja: Mushi King (Sega) surpassed 550,000

This is criminal. This remains, IMHO, the best PSP game, and even better with the scads of downloadables.

Lumines sold well under what it shoud have as well.

82,898 Puyo Puyo Fever (Puyo Pop Fever) (Sega) (12/24/04) - through Apr 10/05 (Media Create)

Did this ever pass 100,000? Or do we have worldwide numbers for it (Throughout all systems?) I'm interested to see if it outsold Lumines. I personally prefer it to that game.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
The top like, 15 DS games are all Nintendo games.

Thats... pretty crazy.

The fanbase loyalty is insane.
I wonder if other companies intend to make some money off the DS, heh.

Well, I know a lot of third party sales are pretty good...
But they have to be pretty pissed their own games and own genre stars can't compete at all with any first party Nintendo titles on any Nintendo system.

I mean, thats gonna irk them, creatively and financially.

That total for Puyo Puyo Fever will be pretty close to its current total. It hasn't been on the charts at all since that total, and that date is almost 4 months past its launch date. It would have done 95% or so of its final total within those first 4 months. So it may have sold another 2000 or 3000 since Apr 10, but not much more then that.

Puyo Puyo Fever definitely outsold Lumines in Japan, but Lumines crushed it in NA, and I know it launched very strongly in the UK. So, I'm sure that Lumines has outsold Puyo Puyo Fever worldwide.

Actually, # 9,10, and 15 are all 3rd parties. :lol But I see your point. Nintendo just makes a killing on their own software - and they don't have to pay any licensing fees to put it on their own system. That's why they will always have their own consoles and handhelds.

The past 6 months or so, 3rd party DS software has still sold as well or better than 3rd party PSP software. I mean, WE9 on the PSP was the first title since March to sell more than 54,000 units. And Tamagotchi (DS) (Bandai) has a chance at outselling every single PSP title yet released.

Yep. But what can Nintendo do about it? Nothing.

Easy solution for (good) third parties: let Nintendo publish your game.

Easy solution for (other) third parties: work with Sony instead.

:D

So PSP is down 1.5 million and they were down 1.1 million at the beginning of this year? (hardware)

Sony dropped the ball. these numbers would be really close if they had had 1.5 million PSPs available in Dec (when everyone still thought GT4 mobile was soon-to-release) instead of 500,000.

Does anyone have rough figures for Super Mario 64 DS worldwide? It must be approaching 3 million copies. Added to its N64's 12 million, does this push the game a few places higher in the all-time rankings, i.e. above GTA?

Eh... I don't think it works that way. Otherwise, SMB would be closer to 45-50 million, and OoT would be 8-9 million.

And both Tetris 1 (from Nintendo) and Pokemon R/G/B/Y/FR/LG would be over 50 million. :)

I just completed a rather big update to the chart (1st post). I updated Media Create top 10 through Oct 9/05, Famitsu top 30 through Oct 2/05, and thanks to CVXFREAK I was able to update a number of titles which had not made the top 30 charts the past few weeks.

Recent Notable Achievements:

DS - Kahashima Ryuuta Kyouju no Nouo Kitaeru Otona DS Training (Nintendo) surpassed 600,000 (as of Oct 2/05)
DS - Tamagotchi no PuchiPuchi Omisecchi (Tamagotchi: Corner Shop) (Bandai) surpassed 250,000 (as of Oct 9/05)
PSP - World Soccer Winning Eleven 9: Ubiquitous Edition (World Soccer Winning Eleven 9) (Konami) surpassed 150,000 (as of Oct 9/05)
GBA - Pokemon Emerald (Pokemon) surpassed 1,600,000 (as of Sept 25/05)
GBA - Famicom Mini: Super Mario Bros. (Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros.) (Nintendo) surpassed 900,000 (as of Oct 9/05)
GBA - Kouchuu Ouja: Mushi King (Sega) surpassed 550,000 (as of Sept 25/05)
GBA - Super Robot Taisen J (Banpresto) surpassed 150,000 (as of Oct 2/05)

I have also included SW totals for each platform, plus tie ratios. Enjoy!

I think Brain Training and nintendogs will break 1 Million sometime into 2006. It depends on how they do during the holidays.
