Me too. I play more of and tend to heavily prefer japanese developed games (This is more due to the mentality of western developed games more than anything) but you can't deny that there has been a shift recently.
Me Thre
. Essentially for the same reasons. However, after a comment like Inafune's, I admit, I am a little worried about the future of games in the Japanese industry, but as long as there are popular game systems, there will still be games. It is likely that, coincidentally, everyone hit sort of a slump at once. There were still some nice games shown at TGS, though.
I've been thinking though... I think the current output of popular games is lower than back in the 80s and 90s. Nowadays, things are done slower and with more money. That could have something to do with it. This generation, just thinking of Konami as an example, in those earlier days, they used to be on fiyah. Of course they still make great games, but their hits don't seem to be as numerous.
Downloadable games may be an option, but If someone made only great, 2D games, if they were retail, people may think they're not worth the money, and if they were downloads, it wouldn't reach as many people. Otherwise, Konami would probably be making 2D games out the wazoo, like how they did back then.
