Knowingly exposing others to HIV will no longer be a felony in California

You sound literally insane. We should be doing everything in our power to isolate your disease of a mindset from our species, and make the average person more informed and almost hysterical about the necessities of safe sex and sex education.

You haven't seen this mentality outside GAF because you refuse to, and you're ignorant of the progress this bill will make, and what we've already achieved in regards to HIV testing and medication.

Give me a break.
Like I said there is definitely a weird current travelling through NeoGAF.
I think this is the only place where you are regarded as "insane" for suggesting that testing for HIV should be routine and mandatory. That there should be severe legal consequences for people that mislead their partners and potentially ruin their lives.

You haven't achieved anything, modern medicine has improved and the disease is more manageable. It's still life changing.
HIV rates have dropped due to clean needle initiatives and public awareness of the disease.
Acceptance and understanding has fuck all to do with it.
If anything the fools in this thread talking about undetectablility and transmission are likely to cause a resurgence because approximately only half of people with HIV in the US actually have the infection under control.

I'm not going to rely on someone else to remember to take their medicine every day of their life.

I'll say it again: mandatory testing and informing the other person by law.
Fail to do so and have you ass sent straight to jail for attempted murder.

This sounds scary. Sounds like there is not deterring people from knowingly spreading HIV, meaning our lives could be potentially at risk (well, even moreso) just because someone with HIV wanted to get some action. That sounds so fucked up.

I am glad I don't live in California. I hope this doesn't become the standard adopted elsewheres.

dude, they're changing the law to lessen (not eliminate) the penalty because it wasn't deterring anything and in fact may have been counterproductive.

All i ask is that, if i were to ask a person before having sex if they have HIV that they answer truthfully, i don't see how that is asking too much?. I don't want to take a risk (miniscule as it might be) just to have a couple hours of pleasure. Why are people seemingly in favor of HIV+ people lying about their status in order to get laid because... poor them?, i am truly sorry that you are HIV+ but that doesn't mean that you can lie in order to have sex with me.

Seriously, this is really the crux of the matter.

If it's "only plagiarize" saying this, then can we get together on this issue so that it/he doesn't keep coming back up with that?
As it is, considering he has not only been the most prominent poster in favor of this legal change, but the most prominent poster in this thread in general, he is the one pushing much of the direction of this thread and what many people are responding to / a contributing factor in their responses.

It's medication you have to take for the rest of your life. In this current healthcare nightmare of America I'm sure a lot of people would rightly be worried about affording that treatment. You don't get over it like a cold.

Why do people keep bringing up the cost of it? It is like none of you are aware of the many programs that help HIV+ people get the care they need, even giving them a regular doctor, HIV specialist, and paying for trips to said doctors. I have never heard of a person with HIV who couldn't get care because they couldn't afford it.

The only ones who don't get care are those who don't know they have it or know they have it, but is too afraid of reputation to get care.

Guess what? The stigma is a major reason why those 2 categories of people exist in high percentages.
