you act like being the best selling ps4 game is something horrible

It kind of is when even a failed system (Wii U) can have 3 games that definitively sold over 1 million copies (1.2 or more), and if you count games that might possibly have sold 1 million (like Final Fantasy 15) it's got 4.

I know, but selling one million copies is not much of an embarrassment

Edit: please can somebody summarise the last 20 pages or so to save me reading? Thanks!

FFXV is a drastic decline for FF as a franchise. It's still a very good result for a console game. It will probably be the only non Nintendo developed console game to reach that market due to the current market.

Also its pretty obvious that Japan gravitates towards Nintendo styled polish as fuck gameplay with cutesy presentation games. So FFXV will probably be then only game not to have that style to sell as well.

So.... what exactly is Monster Hunter then lol o_O? It definitely doesn't have the "cutesy presentation". Also I'm not sure what you mean by that anyways.

I guess we'll see how DQ PS4 & KH3 pan out. I don't expect them to outsell FFXV, but I would love to be surprised. Maybe some traditionally console focused franchises may get a second lease of life in Japan on Switch or something thanks to its portability. I guess we'll see.

DQ11, FF7R and maybe even MH5 will outdo FFXV. Japan is the only region where FFXV is down iirc. Game smashed it in the west and asia.

Switch is already above 3DS and Wii U first year releases. One more big announcement from Nintendo and it will come closer to Wii first year, though it will need to be a major one.

The PS4 isn't as much of a failure as the Wii U in Japan, but its close.

A month after DQXI I'm sure it will be sub 10k weekly.

if only Nintendo by some miracles makes it on par with the nds first year, that would be awesome to see

Wut.O_O Thats a bold bold prediction.

I think he's being a bit hyperbolic but DQXI is currently the only big PS4 game announced/dated. Even for Mid-tier there's only really Dynasty Warriors(off the top of my head anyway).

It wouldn't be surprising to see sales dip unless something biggish gets announced for later this year.

Look like they're going in on the west then with those Steam ports. Nice to see them support Switch, wonder if it'll get every back-port of the SciAdv titles just like Vita did (and if they can get people to buy them again for a 4th or 5th time :p)

They keep releasing Japan-only XB1 ports of games that have to be selling dozens of units, so anything's possible.

Was this discussed already? Sorry if OT, but this seemed the most relevant active thread, and I'm not aware of Financial times' credentials for video games related reporting. Is posting from a paid subscription article frowned upon? If so, I will remove the links and stuff.

Financial Times said:
Nintendo has ordered a production increase of its Switch gaming console as global stocks fail to meet demand and disappointed fans scramble to secure machines through an informal online market in “Switch futures”, say people close to the company.

The planned production hike for the console is designed to meet demand ahead of the Thanksgiving and Christmas sales peak in late autumn, and has been ordered just weeks after Nintendo declared the $300-priced Switch to be its fastest-selling gaming device.

People involved in Nintendo’s hardware supply chain say the Kyoto-based games maker is now targeting Switch hardware production of 18m units for the 12 months ending March 2018.

Seems quite similar to the other report of 16 million this year from the other site (WSJ I believe).

Nintendo has until March 2018, I'm sure they will have one big title in January or February next year if not this holiday season. It might me a bigger western title like Retro's game though.

Wow. Ninty is increasing the number again this time to 18 million? It seems that the demand really is so huge that Nintendo is scrambling to produced any Switch they can right now.

I feel this must be one of the reason why NES Classic is stopped in its production there.

Wowza, FT predicts 80 millions lifetime Switch.

Sounds plausible if it keeps up that rhythm and goes for a classic 5 years gen. We can already see it shouldn't be another WiiU/GC at least for now, but who knows for further than that.

Seems rather conservative. Switch looks set to be able to follow the PS4's pace which is likely gonna break the 80 million barrier in another 2 years. I'm pretty sure the switch will be around for as long as the 3ds was.

Mobile would be able to bring much more than what 3DS would be able to bring them in the future the more they are adapted into that market.^^

Don't forget their movie and theme park initiative too.^^(QoL is dead huh.T_T)

I can't see it reaching PS4 number like at all lol. That is a really hard thing to reach if you ask me.

80 million+ a bit is already a really positive number for me i think. Except if Ninty had super high expectation on Switch numbers.

I think it can do nds numbers( YES, I SAID THAT)

I know its crazy to think about the Switch doing PS4 numbers, but i dont think its crazy at all. The Switch is selling faster than they can produce it with 2 Wii U ports at a premium price.

Imagine what happens with price drops, actual exclusives like Splatoon and Mario come out, new sku's like a slim, a handheld only model, a console only model, etc. This thing isnt slowing down anytime soon.

Sony has shipped 60 million PS4's in 3 years and plans to ship another 17 million this year which would bring the total up to 77 million. Barring a catastrophe of sorts, 80m is a lock for the PS4.

If we're talking about sell-through, Sony has to sell on average 13.3m consoles over the next two year to achieve that target. For reference, PS4's sell-through for 2015 and 2016 are 17.4m and 17.5m respectively. Moreover, I'm of the opinion that the PS5 is around 3 years away so that would give them 1 more year of sales before we see a massive nosedive in sales.

EDIT: Whoops. Looks like you were referring to the Switch. Still, if the 18m rumor is true, that would put it close to the PS4's pace so 80+m seems very doable.

Yeah, you're right. My bad.

But still, the Switch looks to be a huge success right? If that 18m rumor is true, that would put it close to the PS4's pace and if we assume that the switch will be around for roughly 6 years, 80m seems to be an easy target.

Of course, nothing is set in stone but so far, the switch has exceeded my expectations. It's easy to see why the Wii flat out died at one point but the Switch seems to be a genuine gaming machine so I'm pretty confident with my predictions.

mh5 exclusive to ps4 was never a possibility, it just doesn't make sense for anyone involved

with the early announcement of xx and the switch being a perfect replacement for ps4 ww sales, im not sure mh5 will even be multiplatform with the ps4

I guess he's counting Mario Odyssey but that won't cross 1 million in japan, much less in 2017
odyssey will definitely pass 1m

this game is more wanted than super mario galaxy series and that managed 1 mil, switch is also better hardware for this type of game

it's going to be closer to the 2m that super mario 3d land managed than 1m

super mario 3d world was obviously gimped by wii u and even that managed 500k+

I thought Nintendo were idiots and they were going to have a 3DS situation(or worse) but it's doing a lot better. It's hard to pin down where it will land though. A lot depends on how third parties react to it.

That's a weird logic. PS4 game sell like shit in Japan, so being the best selling PS4 in Japan can't suddenly be considered great either. The game sell half of the previous shitty entry, how is that a good sign?
