It has to do a minimum of 4k60 if you want me to shell out another $700+, otherwise I'll stick with my Series X.
I don't think it'll be a "Pro" console and I doubt it'll be a slim.
My guess is a Series X w/no disc drive for $399 to compete directly with the PS5 Digital.
Why would they make a console to compete with the PS5 SKU that doesn't sell?
PS5 digital regularly sells out. The issue is Sony doesn't make many of them.
Which is also the issue for the Series X, but you want them to replace the console that is produced fastest, with one that will produce at the same pace as the one that isn't being produced fast enough?
I didn't say I want them to, I just said that's what I think they may be bringing to market.
And I never said anything about them replacing the Series S.
But why would they do bring something to the market, that would stall how many consoles they could put on store shelves?
Then with your last line you think they would have 2 Series X branded consoles and 1 Series S out at the same time?
They cancelled the One X and later the One S not long after to prevent naming confusion. In your case there would be two Xbox Series X and an S, two with no disc drives.
I'm waiting for the xbox series xxxThe Xbox Series XS and Xbox Series XX.
K…thanks. Your topics never seize to amaze me. Keep them coming.A new reveal may be revealed soon
Maybe the idea would be to make the Series X disc edition the least produced console & prioritize selling discless hardware
now that would make me a bit interested in the xbox ecosystem (really liking handhelds lately), but if it were to release this year or next, how much could it cost?fingers crossed for handheld Series S

Series X money is what I would expect this year... but if it's late 2024 then maybe same as Series S?
really hard to judge imo.
it would need an SoC that is 100% compatible to Series S games, it's also hard to say how fast AMD could get there.
their newest mobile SoCs used in various Windows handhelds are already very promising and basically half way there, so lets see how fast they can get all the way there
Really? These consoles can barely do 60 fps with raytracing. If at all at times.one of the most ignorant takes i have ever read about this gen.
Exactly lol!You might end up thankful for a Pro model soon enough. I feel that once UE5 games start flowing, we will see a lot of 30fps games on XSX and PS5.
Handheld is not likely to happen, Xbox has partnered with like 5 companies, including recently Razr and another company, for games, including game pass support, on their handhelds, and they have steam deck verified games coming to SD. The abruptly doing an about face on handhelds would burn several bridges.
The mid gen refresh for series S is the series XThe Xbox Series Evolution? Mid gen refresh?
yisus. please don't tell me you consider yourself an "expert".Really? These consoles can barely do 60 fps with raytracing. If at all at times.
Never claimed I was. Know what else I'm not doing? Choosing if I'm going to play my game in in performance, quality, or balanced mode because my hardware is lacking horsepower.yisus. please don't tell me you consider yourself an "expert".
oh, you are one of those. yikes.Never claimed I was. Know what else I'm not doing? Choosing if I'm going to play my game in in performance, quality, or balanced mode because my hardware is lacking horsepower.

Ezekiel made a jokeIt's air, get it?
The future is cloud!
I would be all over an X Deck.Could this possibly be a portable hybrid? If so this would be the best kept secret ever......
The other stumbling block might be the GDDR6 memory. But, maybe you could go with a very high capacity battery to try and make up for that.
I'm hoping they give it a go at some point before the generation is over. Like you said, a lot would ride on what AMD is capable of in regards to reducing the power draw as the XSS can get up into the 90s as it is configured now.
People keep bringing up a streaming box, but what exactly would be the point of that? I mean, what would it add that can’t already be accomplished with XCloud? Isn’t the whole point of streaming that you aren’t tethered to any specific piece of hardware?

Something else that has been mentioned is a handheld version of the Series S. That would indeed be amazing (and would probably win MS the generation), but unfortunately I think it’s a bit too early for that. I don’t see how they could possibly get the power consumption of the Series S low enough to run on a battery, at least not with currently available production nodes. 5nm won’t be enough, and I’m not sure if even 3nm would be enough to get it down to <20W. The CPU and RAM in particular are far beyond anything found in current mobile devices; I think they’ll have to wait for 2nm before a handheld Series S is feasible. So 2025 at the absolute earliest imo.
Anther possibility is a third model that fits right between the Series S and X. The GPU in the Series S runs only at 1.55 GHz, compared to 1.825 GHz in the Series X. A redesigned version of the Series S GPU on a 5nm node might be able to achieve significantly higher clocks than it does currently, which means they could make it more powerful without needing more silicon (and thus more $). If they can get it up to 2.3 Ghz (just a bit higher than PS5), they would achieve ~6TF. Throw in an additional 2GB of RAM (so it would have the same amount as the One X), and you’d have a 6TF console with 12GB RAM that could take the place of the Series S, possibly at the same price of 299. 6TF and 12GB not only means better performance and resolutions (compared to the current Series S), it also means it would benefit from the same BC enhancements as the One X.
