Milo Yiannopoulos planned to 'publicy name undocumented students' in cancelled talk

Milo Yiannopoulos reportedly planned to publicly name undocumented students at his cancelled Berkeley University event.

The Breitbart senior editor, who was one of Twitter’s most notorious trolls until the site permanently banned him in July, was due to speak at the university on Wednesday but the event was called off due to heated protests.

Demonstrators threw smoke bombs, started fires and smashed windows.

Berkeley University officials warned Mr Yiannopoulos, an outspoken Donald Trump supporter, was planning to use the talk to target students who do not have documentation to live in the US.

“We are deeply concerned for all students’ safety and ability to pursue their education here at Cal beyond Milo’s speech,” the university’s Office of Student Affairs said in a letter sent to Berkeley College Republicans, the students hosting the event, on Tuesday.

“Milo’s event may be used to target individuals, either in the audience or by using their personal information in a way that causes them to become human targets to serve a political agenda.”

Mr Yiannopoulos told The Independent that suggestions he would use the event to name undocumented migrants were "a total fabrication" and categorically denied the reports.

George Ciccariello-Maher, a professor at Drexel University, claimed reliable sources believed Mr Yiannopoulos was planning on outing undocumented students.

“Reliable sources say Milo planned to publicly name undocumented students @UCBerkeley. Debate over: shutting him down was necessary & good,” he wrote on Twitter.

Kumars Salehi, a Berkeley PHD student, claimed Mr Yiannopoulos was planning to broadcast the talk in an online live stream.

Far-right news site Breitbart published an article a day before the event, saying Mr Yiannopoulos would use the Berkeley talk to claim US universities have become “sanctuary campuses that shelter illegal immigrants from being deported”.

“Backed by the Freedom Center (Mr Yiannopoulos) will call for the withdrawal of federal grants and the prosecution of university officials who endanger their students with their policies, starting with UC President and former Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano and Berkeley Chancellor Nicholas Dirks,” reads the article.

Since the talk was cancelled, Mr Yiannopoulos has claimed he was planning to discuss cultural appropriation in a full Native American headdress at the event.

President Trump responded to the protests against Mr Yiannopoulos by appearing to threaten to withdraw Berkeley's federal funding.

“If UC Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view - NO FEDERAL FUNDS?” he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Yiannopoulos was permanently suspended from Twitter in July following claims he had aggravated and helped lead the Twitter abuse of Ghostbusters actor Leslie Jones. He has been dubbed a spokesperson for the so-called “alt-right movement” - a political movement which has been accused of racism, antisemitism, misogyny, and of sharing an ideology with far-right parties such as the French National Front.

During a recent talk at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Mr Yiannopoulos publicly named and mocked a transgender student for filing a Title IX complaint about bathroom access.

So just like the other time when he publicly humiliated and attacked a transwoman out of her education, he wanted to do the same to undocumented students?

It's almost like people have a good reason to protest and force universities to reject him a platform.

Seriously, this is the man people wish to defend when it comes to free speech, this vile disgusting monster that is using any platform he gets to attack and harass people. This shouldn't be considered free speech, this is clearly violent speech, fuck that noise and people who defend it.

I don't get how people are starting to change "alt-right" to "nazi" before changing "troll" to "asshole" in this case.

He is not a troll, he is just plain evil human being.

Calling him a troll undermines the whole issue

Wow, turns out the anarchists were heroes we needed, not those we deserved.

If this is true, of course.

Publicly shaming a transgender student to outing undocumented students. The trilogy cannot flop

Milo 3: Blacks are the New Orange.

In the end of Milo's Dangerous F@#$%^ Tour, Milo will attack and harass black students who have a criminal history and tell people to "keep an eye on them" because "race science says that they are violent creatures".

This motherfucker...I'm not sure why universities keep letting this guy in specially in schools where it's going to be a security risk.

Freedom of speech, be tolerant of differing opinions, all opinions are equal, pee in jars, witness, if you pinch you're just as bad if not worse.

I wouldn't put it past him, but there is zero actual evidence to support this claim. He vehemently denies it, but of course he would.

Why are you guys so mean to Milo? Welp, time to vote for racists and fascists, I guess. That'll show you guys.

I understand the dogpile here but the only source for this is one tweet by a Drexel professor who obviously isn't in Milo's inner circle.

This isn't really a story until there's actual corroboration.

A lot of folks who weren't there-- and are never there-- are spouting off behind their computers today, as if their trite "analysis" from the sidelines means anything. Here is some reality from the ground. Educate yourself so you understand what "nonviolence" means, and what was at stake last night....

"why did students react so fiercely to the white supremacist neo nazi event at UC Berkeley? (this is gathered from reliable info of students and compas at UCB)

1) the event organizers claimed that at the planed event white supremacists were going to release the names and info of undocumented students and incite event attendees to violently go after exposed vulnerable students

2) for months students tried to work with the campus to shut down an event that was planned specifically to incite violence against vulnerable people. the campus responded that the only way they would stop the nazis from inciting attacks against students of color was if on the day of the event there was a threat of riot. that was what students were basically told by the university they needed to do in order to shut down the nazi attack event on vulnerable students. no other solution to protect vulnerable students was offered by the university.

3) so the university basically said: you need to riot and give campus police a reason to shut this down. so students simply followed the university administration suggestions.

4) what's really more violent? a broken window or a vicious hate crime against people of color? if you favor the window, you need to admit your own racism and affinity with nazis. this is not about free speech and it is not about nonviolence, this is about the values this society places on the lives of people of color and immigrants vs inanimate objects like windows. if you think a window is more valuable than a human you are an asshole, not a pacifist.

5) again, these folks who were kicked out of campus are KKK supporting white supremacist neo-nazis. do you really think Hilter, Franco, or kkk lynch mobs would have been stopped with politeness? like this image says below, when folks in washington state held a non-violent protest against this same group of fascists those fascists literally pulled out guns and shot people (like just a few weeks ago - google it). and then the police refused to even hold the shooter. this is the context Berkeley students were facing."

I have no interest in entertaining liberals with remorse for milo or conservatives who sympathize.

This will never be corroborated but given that he has publcially outed a transgender student before...

Serious talk, those anarchist could have just saved a bunch of families and their lives by preventing him from speaking if this is true. Yes the damage property is bad, but I think if this weren't to happen, lives would have been effected and destroyed.

Maybe, but it is right up his alley. This is a practice that as far as I know, originated on 4ch and took off on twitter as well. When people started doing this on reddit they shut down the subs that partook in it. It was particularly heinous on twitter where originally immigrants where standing in solidarity and speaking of their situations, while alt-right members would track the users via hashtag and find their data thus calling to fellow slime bags to report them to ICE.
