MLB The Show 22 Coming April 5th to PS5, Xbox Series X...AND SWITCH

I still love the core gameplay but if Road to the Show players are still linked to loot-box items then that's a hard skip for me.

Keep that horseshit out of single-player modes.

I wouldn’t expect big improvements

What incentive is there now?

It’s just an EA game at this point.

I hope Sony doesn’t focus on it at all, and uses San Diego talent to make other exclusive games instead

Please tell me this is a joke post.

Sony should phone-in a series that’s guaranteed several million sales, plus ever increasing MTX revenue, all because it’s not exclusive ?

Absolutely not. That’s not how it works. It’s completely up to Sony. They publish it on PlayStation.
MLB Advanced Media is calling the shots with The Show. That's why it's on GP every year and on Switch this year. They wanted it on Switch last year.

Sony are seriously asleep at the wheel again…dropping your own first party studio game on a rival console for free the first time you could write off as being caught off guard but for them to release it again the same way and expect your userbase to still pay full price for it……shows you how dumb the people running your company are.

With MLB handling publishing outside of PS, I doubt Sony had much say in any of it. MS either cut a multi-year deal to start with or MLB liked the result and came back again.

It's not up to Sony to say where The Show goes. If MLB wanted it on Spatacus day one, it'd be on there.
That’s not true though. Sony publishes the game on their systems. MLB publishes it on Switch and Xbox. Hence game pass.

Sony has the right to offer it on their services, whether its PS+ or otherwise.

This game seems to be pretty good, but most countries in the world don't care about baseball. If EA leaves the FIFA IP (or if they decide to share it with more publishers) and I was Sony I'd get it -plus any other licenses needed from teams, competitions and players- and would put this guys (or a new second team of this studio) with some former FIFA devs to make a football game.

And would also acquire Sega to use all these licenses on Football Manager too.

A great simulator, a great manager, and EA would still be free to continue with their FUT casino.
Even though Baseball is an American game, The Show sells a good amount. And with it being cross platform cross play and diamond dynasty mode, Sony is making an ass ton of money from it. It’s a great game too.

What's the pre-paid card trick? Mine comes out to about $10 a month because I bought 4 3-month GP Ultimate cards at $30 because of BF sales.
You used to be able to buy prepaid 12 month cards for Xbox Live Gold, then convert them to 1 year of Gamepass Ultimate, and stack 3 years like that.
Then you used to be able to buy prepaid 12 month cards for EA Play, then convert them to 4 months of Gamepass Ultimate, and stack those 3 years as well.
I’m not sure any of that work anymore though.

Fifa would never be a console exclusive game. No way FIFA management would allow that. They took the license from EA, which gave them alot of revenue. They wont settle with low revenue. Those guys are scumbag greedy fucks. Plus they would need to fight MS bank, in order to make it exclusive.

MLB bent Sony over a barrel with the license and published it on the Xbox. Sony probably would prefer it hadn’t happened, but they benefit from more stub sales.

MS even got MLB to do Xbox marketing in commercials and stadium ads for the game. Paying full price for it on PlayStation is a joke and makes Gamepass look good.

Sony allowed MLB to publish the MLB on Xbox and now Switch too. Sony now just bought Bungie and will allow them to continue multiplatform (including other consoles) for Destiny 2 and their future games and IPs. Sony also releases late ports on PC. MS may be now the 3rd party publisher with the biggest amount of games on PlayStation.

So who knows, I think now it's even perfectly possible that Sony could even license the FIFA IP and to publish it themselves on PS, Xbox, PC and Switch. Even if I know, doesn't make a lot of sense.

Those fat fucks rejected EA insane money printing games, and decided to end their partnership. They are greedy to the core.

Only one who will partner with them, would be 2k.

Yes. Because Microsoft paid for Gamepass release.
MLB advanced media can’t tell Sony that they want the game on Spartacus. That would never fly.

MS got it on GP last year. It still sold massively on PS.
Baseball games on PS systems have been about 1.1 million console copies per year gong back to the PS2/PS3 days. It actually sold more copies when PSP was around.

Selling just over 1 million copies per year on PS systems is not "massive".

In 2021, it's stated it sold 2 million copies, but that's due to selling on Xbox, which the number wasnt split how much was on each platform. The footnote leads to this:

  • MLB® The Show™ 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history with more than 2 million copies* sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021

And yet it outsold both forza and halo last year and was a top ten selling game of the year.

Does fastest selling mean best selling? But you’ll find that MLB 20 was the fastest selling game in the franchise a year before. We know from NPD that it sold poorly on xbox.

San Diego Studio should be making tons of money...Hopefully they'll branch out and tackle some other projects (other sports titles, maybe?)...

What are you on about? Seriously? The game sells really well but beyond that, Diamond Dynasty mode is huge among the fan base and PRINTS MONEY. The profits this game makes now is ridiculous.

What’s stopping Sony putting it on psplus then?
A serious loss in revenue? I mean I guess you can still put it on Spartacus and test how that does in terms of driving the subscription and I think it probably will be a part of Spartacus because of the nature of the game fits well with a subscription model (annual releases and all that).

That switch version is going to be a disaster lol

Haven't bought the show in years but I think I'll pick up the PS5 version this year to see what's new

If they dont have next gen graphics 2 years after launch Im gonna riot.
Less incentive than ever. Doubled their sales and got a bunch of downloads on gp that added to the transaction revenue. Now a switch port for on the go baseball and a lot more sales. For all the talk about the big gp coup, the result is that they are making a lot more money, kept ea or ttwo out of the mix and can just update the game for another 2-3 years like ea does with madden. Meanwhile we’ll get no 120fps mode or any additional sim options.

The vita versions were always solid. I don’t see why the switch will be bad. Plus it will be a nice option with Oled and handheld.

I mean this is exactly what I had feared about Sony going multiplatform. There is no incentive to be better. People will buy your game anyway. No need to put in the extra work to sell your console with industry leading graphics. No real incentive to put in any effort whatsoever. Last year's PS5 port was by far the laziest sports game port on the PS5. Even Madden and Fifa had next gen upgrades. Take2's NBA2k series is pretty much a scam and the biggest fraud in gaming atm, and even they updated the graphics. I never thought a Sony studio would be this lazy.
